When you visit Iceland you have to understand everything is expensive when you compare to the usual city/short breaks. This starts with transfers, however you do get what you pay for.

The bus with good heating, WiFi and phone chargers in each seat was waiting outside the terminal even in the bad snow storm that was happening, plus the fact that our flight had been delayed a good couple of hours.

I honestly don’t know how we travelled in to Reykjavic but the driver was obviously confident with his ability, and I would say used to these conditions he did a great job of getting us to the central bus terminal safely.

There you have to change to smaller buses and this is done with colour co-ordinated boards, which I thought worked well. Due to our hotel being a little outside the city, we found ourselves having to wait but you can stay warm and sheltered from the elements. We did not have to wait more than 10 minutes so no big deal.
The next bus was just as efficient again even with the pretty nasty weather (still the snow storm blew) and drove us safely to the front door of our hotel.

The service and efficiency of the Airport transfers company was excellent and with all the weather conditions that Iceland can throw at you is an excellent way to start your journey and trip in to Reykjavic.

This service is the cheapest and most convenient option for transit between Reykjavik and Keflavik. The busses themselves are very clean and high quality with friendly, helpful drivers and courteous efficient service. Of note, there is free WiFi on the bus and there is available pickup via a separate, satellite pickup/dropoff bus across the entire city of Reykjavik, with transit to the airport via departure from the BSI terminal.

The only item I would note is that the ticket purchased via the website is specifically for the bus from the BSI terminal timing rather than the pickup/dropoff shuttle. The pickup/dropoff shuttle seems to run on the tops and bottoms of every hour and is reasonably prompt; the ticket itself was for the departure from the BSI terminal. This could be more clearly described on the website. End result was that we wound up catching a BSI bus half an hour after our planned departure. The BSI bus is prompt enough and Keflavik efficient enough that this wasn’t an issue, however, with less of margin for error this could have resulted in more stressful travel.

We booked the transfer with a discount from our operator Secret Escapes.
The charge amounted to a total of €188,00 for 4 persons.

Finding this a rather high fee we decided to cancel the transfer and rented a car for 4 days instead at a far lower price.

The reimbursement was almost instantaneous, no fuzz no delays, no cancellation fees. iow Excellent.

Easy to book, bus station easy to find, timings of the buses was a little inconvenient. We did later realise that you can get the number 55 public bus which is quite a bit cheaper. However the service did what we needed it to do, driver was chirpy and made clear announcements. Make sure you get there with plenty of time - we got there with 5 mins to go and the bus was very nearly full

Business
I took the trip from the Airport to the BSI bus terminal and a spontaneous cash ticket set me back 3499ISK. Bus 55 takes you to the same BSI terminal in about the same time for 1800ISK or 4 bus tickets.

What’s worse is that she never gave me a receipt or a ticket for that matter, so she could have pocketed the full amount as tax-free income, or increased the price from their standard rate of 2200ISK if booked in advance. Bus 55 comes every hour and I was on a business trip, which is why I just paid the amount in cash. I would recommend never paying in cash for the reasons mentioned above.

Friends of mine booked the blue lagoon & golden circle tour with them and it was cancelled the morning of due to “extreme weather conditions” leaving them with nothing to do the rest of the day.

They came all the way from the states just for two days and the company cancels the tour the morning of. I know the weather is not within their control, but with forecasts these days they could have cancelled the tour a couple of days in advance so as to allow for alternate ‘in-city’ tours to be arranged. I mean they did not even stop accepting payments for the tour the day before the trip. They must have known that there was bad weather by then. I guess they still accepted payments wishing the forecast would be wrong, or a miracle would calm a severe winter storm. As far as the bus is concerned, the bus waits till it gets full before leaving, unlike the 55 which leaves on time weather full or empty. This is probably why I got sick, because of the cramped conditions in their bus where you can smell the nearest passenger’s breath.

With corona virus lingering in Iceland, along with terrifying weather, I’d advise you to pick another destination, or in the very least another tour company unless time, money and good health is not a priority for you. Please 5-star this review if it saved you your time, money or even if it prevented a bad experience altogether.

My Transfer from the airport to the BSI bus station the hub for Reykjavik excisions was fine and that is where the good stuff ends.
I had a day planned In Reykjavik whilst I waited for my evening bus north. I arrived at the BSI at 0930am.

I planned to leave my luggage in the left luggage lockers. Upon my arrival all of the lockers were full. I tried to talk to the staff behind the desk to explain my situation. The staff barely had the customer service skills to make eye contact with me instead of letting looking up from their computer screen. I was told that the lockers are not their responsibility and that there was nothing they could do to help me.

Even if there were lockers available the price of 2440 isk per bag is way to expensive for the 7 hours I have to wait

With the volume of tourism passing through the BSI each day there needs to be more capacity for luggage storage. As there used to be before the lockers were installed.

Reykjavik excursions could also invest some time and energy into giving their staff some customer service training as the staff I had to engage with were unpleasant and could not care less.

In summary
Un helpful staff
Not enough luggage storage
Luggage storage when available is way to expensive

The bus was waiting to take us into Reykjavik, it left promptly once everyone was on board. It was clean, comfortable, had wifi and a USB point in the head of the chair in front.
I was sure I had booked to get dropped off within a 2 minute walk of our accommodation and had said to the driver we wanted bus stop 3 (as recommended by our accommodation hosts) and he said ok. We arrived at the main bus terminal BSI and were told we all had to get off. There were minibuses for onward transit to the local drop off points but they all wanted a coloured ticket and I only had my printed email confirmation. The first driver just said no, the second said we should have been given a ticket as we left the bus, so I went to the receptionist who said I would have to buy a ticket. She wasn't friendly and when I said I thought I had already paid for this when I booked she just said 'do you want the tickets' . It cost £12.46 for my two tickets for a five minute journey. By the time I bought the tickets and went back out into the wind and rain all the minibuses had left. Another minibus came along not long after but just said no when I asked if he was going to bus stop 3, the next one to arrived told me to wait and radio'd someone and then took us and other passengers that had arrived. It was all rather unclear, unhelpful and a ridiculous price, not what you want on arrival in a new place after an early flight!

We booked the transfer online the evening before our journey, arrived at the bus stop in the snow 10 minutes early, and after waiting the suggested 20 minutes past the pick up time called. Ater holding for what felt an eternity we reached the helpdesk, who promised to send someone (they had clearly forgotten us). After waiting a further 10 minutes I made another call, and then a bus turned up to take us to the bus garage where they had held the main bus to take us to the airport. We arrived at the airport 30 mins late, but in time for our flight, frozen after waiting over half an hour in the street in sub zero temperatures. I later found out that competitors charge less and pick up at our hotel, so on this basis I cannot recommend this.

Booked tickets online and all went smoothly. Bus was waiting just outside the terminal as soon as we collected our luggage. Another bus had just left so we had a little wait while ours filled up, but at 6:30am we weren't really in a rush to be anywhere. You are given a colored voucher on the bus which determines the small coach you'll be taking to your hotel once you arrive at the main BSI terminal. Once there, you walk straight through to the other side where smaller vans check your color code and take you to the corresponding hotel/stop. Since we were in the city center, the closest stop to our hotel was a block away at Bus Stop #1 (buses are not allowed in this pedestrian friendly zone), but the driver was very friendly and gave us easy directions. Our return pickup from Bus Stop #1 was also on time, and although another couple had ticket issues that made us slightly late to BSI terminal, the large coach waited for us and we arrived at KEF in plenty of time.

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a short break to Iceland and we booked airport transfers in advance through Reykjavik Excurions. The transfers both to and from the airport to the city centre were well organised and efficient and staff (both the drivers and staff in the BSI bus terminal were helpful). The bus stops are numbered through out the city centre making them really easy to locate. I contacted the company to ask if i could be picked up at a different bus stop and they re-arranged this no problem for me. I also booked my blue lagoon trip through the company which i really enjoyed. I would not hesitate to use Reykjavik Excursions agan, i felt that both the flybus airport transfers and the blue lagoon trip were excellent value for money.
