I went with my 9 year old daughter to this tour to explore Iceland after 2 days in the capital. Our tour guide, Sindri, was a nice friendly guy who was very helpful and made our trip a great experience. Lots of explanations during the tour and great support to us as normally there are no small kids in this kind of trips.
The booking process was simple and there was fast support when questions arised (kind of shoes to wear, extra activities). The group was of 18 people, so it was much easier to organize and have more time for activities than the 50 people bus.
Hotels were ok with decent breakfast/meals and clean although small rooms (something typical in Iceland). Only one night we had to share bathroom with another 3 rooms. This could have been probably avoided as although July is very busy month the company already books rooms long time in advance.
For the glacier tour different groups from Arctic Adventures joined in a big bus to go to a place 30 minutes walk from the glacier. I could see other companies going by small bus by a sand/rocky road to the start point, so they have one hour more for real glacier hiking.
For the whale your I recommend the upgrade to the zodiac small boat (extra 6000 ISK adults, 3000 kids) ... you can almost touch the whales.
Overall I am satisfied with the tour and would use this company again.

It was a great tour overall. We would never have been able to visit places that our tour guide, Alvaro, drove us to, if we had been renting a car ourselves. He was a capable and funny guide and driver. We had a full load of 18 companions who spent our days in a van together. It turned out that this tour is so popular that two vans independently left on the same day. We saw and experienced often awe-striking and beautiful landscapes, including lots of waterfalls, lupines, and sheep!

However, we'd like to note some points for future improvement.

1. It would have been better if the tour guide had provided more options for dinner in advance. At least a few times, the only option was a buffet of about $50/person or $25 or so as the least expensive meal. We regularly stopped at a convenience store before reaching a hotel of the day, and the guide could have said "here's the dinner situation. If you don't want to spend 3000-5500 Krona for dinner, you can buy a cheaper meal like a sandwich at this convenience store." We were not the only people in the tour who were not happy about this lack of options sometimes. Our guide accommodated our request after the first day's experience of no choice for dinner but an expensive buffet (or no dinner at all), but he did not consistently practice this option throughout the tour. As a side note, be warned that food is significantly more expensive in Iceland than the United States, including in convenience stores!

2. The tour descriptions should have noted that the whale watching tour provides a warm clothing to cover the whole body, and that you don't need many layers of warm clothing on your own beyond the clothing to spend time in a 50F/10C degree although bringing a winter cap and gloves would be a good idea. It would have reduced my luggage size.

3. I would have been interested to visit a folk artist or sheep farmer who shares their story of why they do what they do including their challenges that may illuminate larger Iceland's history, culture, economy, and politics (and their relations to the world). It was great that we visited a family which raise horses for competitive races and tourists. We heard what they basically do, and we got to experience feeding and touching horses. I think learning a little more about Icelandic people's lives (not just seeing landscapes) would be enriching.

4. I personally wish the glacier walk had also included walking in an ice cave.

In any case, it is highly recommended!

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, it was excellent! When we were deciding what to do for our Icelandic vacation, we were considering renting a car, finding hotels, etc all by ourselves. This trip took all the hassle out by handling all accommodations and showing us the most beautiful parts of the country. On top of that, it is probably cheaper than doing it all yourself too! Our tour guide Gumi was insightful, down to earth, and a joy to be around. The bus was not a giant tour bus and was comfortable for long rides without being cramped. We saw magnificent waterfalls, bubbling geothermal wonders, hiked a glacier, bathed in a hot spring, whale watched, and visited an Icelandic horse farm, so there was a lot of variety.

One of the downsides was that a lot of things were expensive. Iceland is expensive in general, but a lot of the hotels we went to were in the middle of nowhere so you could only eat at their overpriced restaurant. We could have gotten around this by stocking up at gas stations, but that's not a very attractive alternative. The only other thing was the first two days were very long and intensive, but this was balanced out by more relaxed days at the end of the tour.

Overall, I would highly recommend the tour!

We are an adult family with one food allergy. The group was a good size 18 and a range of ages and countries. Every accommodation was very clean and equipped, and there was a good range of activities included in the trip. Doing 6 days meant we were able to go to the north, access places too far from Reykjavik and also do whale watching. Going in the super jeeps to the glacier in a snowy remote glacier was certainly a unique experience! Soli, our guide was wonderful. He looked after the group really well and set the tone just right. His guiding style was interesting, informative, very kind and caring with lots of other diverse snippets crossing world knowledge, Icelandic folklore and the Arts which engaged everyone. The younger element of the group certainly gave him a few laughs as well! He took us to the public baths and we even managed to see the Northern lights! We did add on days out after the trip with the same company, snowmobiling and snorkelling which we also highly recommend booking if you have time. Each day is full and active but suitable for willing participants of all ages and abilities….we definitely slept well each night!

We'd chosen to use Arctic Adventures as they had been recommended to us and they did not let us down. We wanted to see as much as we could when we were out there and so booked on to the 6 day tour, but I can honestly say that it just wasn't long enough for what this beautiful country had to offer and I wish we'd booked the 8 day! In fact everyone on our tour did extend their stay which is total credit to this company.

We'd never been on a tour holiday before but from start to finish I was extremely impressed with Arctic Adventures and in particular our tour guide Biggi. He was INCREDIBLE, so friendly and knowledgeable (sharing countless information and personal stories) and went out of his way to make sure that we got the most of our time there. He organised group meals to help the us all get to know each other, and sat with us all for dinner, gave advice for the best restaurants to eat at, bought the group traditional sweets to try and the cherry on the top was helping us to find the Northern Lights (even using his own camera to make sure we all got photos taken with them).

Unfortunately on our first day of the tour there was a big snow storm due in and so we were told that we would need to miss the Golden Circle to safely drive to the second day's sites. I was very impressed that straight away Arctic Adventures offered to either refund us for this part of the tour, or book us on to a Golden Circle Tour after our 6 days were finished. We did have a lot of snowfall during our week there and I must say that we felt extremely safe with Biggi's driving.

So, getting on to the tour itself... I was a little worried that there would be a lot of driving involved but that time went very quick and was worth it to see everything that we did. The minibus was extremely comfortable, with access to Wifi throughout journeys. And the hotels were lovely, always very comfortable, clean and served wonderful food.

There was a good mix of waterfalls, geothermal areas, walks through lava fields, ice caving, whale watching, sea fishing, volcano treks, Icelandic horse centre, visits to traditional Icelandic centres, villages. I would recommend paying the additional fee and doing the Myvatn Nature Baths, so lovely relaxing in the hot pools and it wasn't very busy (opposite to what I've heard about the Blue Lagoon!).

We would love to go back to Iceland again and if we do then there would be no other company that I would use but Arctic Adventures. Thank you for such a memorable week.

Sindri was the most amazing tour guide. He had unlimited knowledge about Iceland in addition to non-stop hilarious stories he told during our driving time. I felt like I was on a stand-up comedy road trip. He was also flexible with our stops, and took us to see Puffins when we were all a bit too tired to go on a scheduled hike, which we all appreciated.

I was a bit worried I would be the only solo traveler out of the 18 of us, but there were four others in our group. I'm not sure if that is unusual, but it certainly made the trip that much better.

Highly recommend bringing waterproof pants and shoes in addition to a jacket. We endured some sideways rain during a walk and some people were drenched the rest of the day. Worth investing in some good gear, even for Summer.

We just finished the 6 day Ring Road tour and I highly recommend it for anyone coming to see Iceland. Our tour guide Biggi mixed entertaining stories as well as information about all the places we went to see and tried to teach us some Icelandic phrases. We had a great group and Biggi was able to tune our stops perfectly so that we had enough time at each place, but still got everything in before dark,(which is challenging in the winter) including a perfectly timed sunset visit to the Black Sand beach. This is an active tour which is exactly how I like things, without a lot of down time other than the bus ride where we enjoyed the scenery. I was super glad to have someone else driving when we hit the highlands and the icy, snowy roads. Biggi took some amazing pictures of us with the Northern Llights too. Thanks for a great tour!!

My wife Marilyn and I and our two friends, Jon and Melinda, had the good fortune to take part in a 6-day tour led by our Tour Guide Vjeran. The tour was comprehensive, well-planned and managed. We had 15 participants from multiple continents and countries. We all got along superbly on what Vjeran named “Team Wonderful.” Vjeran was the most wonderful of our Team. He was a safe driver, knew much about Iceland, its culture and history, and each site. Vjeran helped carry luggage, went the extra mile assisting our Team members, and made great conversation on the bus, during meals, and at each site. The best was when we all went out searching for the Northern Lights. Vjeran used a website to track when the Northern Lights were most visible, and on night 5, we went as a group to locate an area away from artificial lighting, where we not only experienced the Lights, but laughed, sung songs, and had a night to remember. When we parted, we were all sad but pleased with the wonderful and memorable experience we had. We will never forget this experience and highly recommend this tour.

We spent six days with Arctic Adventures on the Ring Road and one day on the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula.

Our guide on the Ring Road was Biggi. Biggi has eight plus years of experience as a glacier, trekking and a driver-guide. His logistic and organizational skills ensured the group and tour stayed on track and on time. His driving skills through periods of inclement weather cannot be overstated.

But more than that, his personal knowledge and anecdotal stories about the natural history, and the history and culture of the Icelandic people is what really made the tour a life experience. Thanks Biggi, and thanks for your recommends on Icelandic restaurants, movies, music, and literature!

Our day on the Snæfellsjökull Peninsula was spent with another guide, Inky, and was made as equally wonderful through his insights of the people and culture.

Now that we have been introduced to this lovely place and its people we want to return for some more focused adventures!

This was a really in depth tour around Iceland. We had a fantastic guide Vjeran who kept us well informed with great explanations about the areas we were visiting. He was kind thoughtful and went the extra mile to ensure everyone was happy. He dealt politely and calmly with stupid questions and difficult clients. He also occasionally, if time allowed, made extra stops which were not on the itinerary but were much appreciated.
The accommodation was excellent and couldn't be faulted. The choice of restaurants and food venues suited a variety of budgets. The transport was comfortable and Vjeran was a very good and safe driver. The itinerary had a good mix of viewing and a reasonable amount of hiking.

6-Day Small-Group Adventure Tour Around Iceland from Reykjavik
