About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- IDDC0 contributionsOur Iceland Safari (without all the animals)! Our family of 4 had an incredible trip to Iceland and a good deal of it to the incredible planning and guiding of Arctic Advanced. Generally I do all the planning but this time we wanted professionals to handle the details as we had only 7 days and no real idea about visiting the country. Diana was great to work with and handled all of the details. She came up with great suggestions for tours/activities which we then turned into our 4 day Iceland adventure- including transfers from the airport to Reykjavik, our hotels each day and activities. She was easy to work with as she's a real professional and we were in good hands with her planning. The day after we arrived, AO (our guide for 4 days) came to our downtown hotel to pick us up. He had a large "superjeep" and off we went. To say that AO was the nicest/greatest/most friendly guide you could have is an understatement. He took us off the beaten path to incredible places (waterfalls, caves, dormant volcanoes, hikes, swimming places) that not many people probably get too. He was very accommodating to our needs and always made sure we were safe and had the time we wanted for each of the stops. By the time we said goodbye to AO back at our hotel in Reykjavik he was one of our family, or we were one of his. If you are looking for a more intimate Iceland experience beyond the typical tourist groups/excursions you should definitely consider Arctic Adventures. We want to go back for the Northern lights and will use them again!Written August 17, 2022
- livelovexplore0 contributionsA flawless trip with Artic AdvancedWe traveled to Iceland with Artic Advanced for a nine-day trip. Our first few nights were in Reykyavik, and your stay was flawless. Diana made our dinner reservations and suggestions, and we just loved our time in this beautiful and trendy city. We were picked up by our guide, Driver AO and continued our travels out to Vik. My husband is an avid photographer, and AO was perfect for us. He is patient, kind, and knowledgeable about his country, the sites, and the photography options at each site. We traveled over the highlands and were not disappointed! The landscapes are stunning, and the glaciers are beautiful. We also traveled to the Snaefullsnes Peninsula, continuing on our private tour. AO continues to advise and guide, and we explored this amazing country. Should we return, we would not hesitate to have Artic Advanced lead and guide our tours. The service is amazing, and the staff is talented and kind. Much Gratitude Artic Advance. We are grateful for both your suggestions and service.Written July 31, 2022
- Travelerslut0 contributionsAwesomeSaw a lot well in a relaxed manner. Diana from the company did everything perfectly from places to stay and restaurants. She reponded to our questions immediately. I could not believe how efficient she is. AO the guide was excellent. He was flexible, friendly knowledgable. We have been to over 90 countries and this was one of our favorite custom tours.Written July 12, 2022
- RoryN1370 contributionsArctic drive with AoWe had a private drive with Ao from Arctic Advance. Journey was stunning and he made it really fun and informative. The vehicle itself was great for the road conditions (big Jeep to handle the snow and ice!). Ao had such an impressive career and knowledge of the landscape, and of course he was also a very nice guy! Highly recommend this companyWritten November 21, 2021
- Swallowsnamazons0 contributionsNothing too much trouble...I booked two full day trips, transfers to and from airport and the Blue Lagoon with this company. We were a party of four adults that included two ‘seniors’ one of whom is disabled - me! All arrangements were agreed in writing and I was provided with a full, clear Itinerary for our stay. The drivers arrived at the expected time for each occasion and the vehicles were exceptionally good. They managed my scooter (and the luggage) cheerfully - both in actions and attitudes and I was treated with dignity at all times. The day trips in a 4 x 4 were outstanding and adjusted by agreement to meet the party’s desires and weather changes. Both of the young men who escorted our party were charming, informative and great company. By the end of both days, we were a family! Thank you so much Gisele and Audunn! Without doubt you can see the Golden Circle and the South Coast cheaper by coach tour or self-drive but neither can compare with the personal service and depth of knowledge about the island, it’s geography, society and culture provided by one’s own tour guide. The journeys in a 4 x 4 are more comfortable and exciting too!! If this is your first, your only or a special trip, don’t think twice about paying for the best if you can. This was my second visit to Iceland but hopefully not my last. Thank you Ao Thur for making it such fun and with more marvellous memories -again. Hugs Mary.Written November 11, 2018
- rlovelett0 contributionsSouth Coast TourWe strongly recommend the south coast tour from Arctic Adventures, especially the optional boat ride in the glacier lagoon. It was one of our favorite activities on our trip to Iceland. Our tour guides, Sindri and Ricci, were helpful and knowledgeable and made the long van trip from Reykjavik to Jökulsárlón (with several stops at beaches and waterfalls along the way) enjoyable.Written June 30, 2018
- marathongirl10660 contributionsAmazingWe have just returned from an amazing trip to Iceland which would have turned out very differently had we not booked with Arctic Advanced. Before we left the UK, Diana was very helpful and easy to chat to whilst suggesting the best trip for our family. Diana and Ao had the forward planning to let us know on the day we arrived that there was an extreme snow blizzard with high winds coming in over the weekend closing most of the roads and even the airport. They kindly rescheduled our day trips so that we would still get to see the Golden Circle and the South Coast. We saw breathtaking waterfalls, glaciers and many more natural wonders. All the time Ao was chatty, friendly and made us feel relaxed, as if we were traveling with a dear friend. We always felt safe in his hands whilst driving through the deep snow and blizzard conditions. If we had booked group bus excursions, these would have been cancelled and we would have returned home without seeing all those wonderful sights. I thoroughly recommend booking with Arctic Advanced as your tour can be customised to your interests and the weather, avoiding the crowds where ever possible. Thank you Ao and Diana for giving us the best possible experience.Written February 15, 2018
- Nathan H0 contributionsStunning Icelandic ProposalIf you’re looking for an experience of a lifetime, tailored to your needs, you’ve found the right guys who can offer just that. Iceland is simply an otherworldly place to explore, and they know it like the back of their hand. Thanks to Arctic Advanced, who helped me organize, we enjoyed an unforgettable proposal. While our special moment turned out better than I originally planned, it didn’t quite come easy. The Icelandic weather conditions were fickle and unpredictable. Because of a sudden blizzard my proposal nearly fell into water, but not if Arctic Advanced could help it. And that’s why they were so incredibly professional and great. Because of their highly personalized service, and attention to detail, they’d set contingencies in place to ensure I could propose in the most perfect way… the day after, at sunrise, under a clear, magically colored sky. And I could not have expected or even imagined a more scenic and stunning scene to propose. They made no promises, but they sure as hell delivered. And if that doesn’t give you enough reassurance they are the best tour guides to book on the island, we’ve also walked through and alongside awesome waterfalls away from the crowds, savored some of the best local delicacies, and caught the fleeting northern light spectacle when they were nearly dissipating for the season. Because the Arctic Advanced team is just that good. Frankly, you can’t just visit Iceland only once. There’s too much to discover and to be in awe of. So we already know whom to look for again on our next visit off the beaten path.Written June 14, 2017
- stentdoc0 contributionsI wish I could give 6 stars!!!Arctic advanced is a terrific and friendly small tour company. They made everything seamless. I found them just by searching the internet as I planned our trip to Iceland. My first interaction was with Diana poon who was knowledgeable and friendly and prompt. She booked a 4 day tour for us based on my wishes. It was not cheap but well worth it. When I had to possibly cancel they waived the 30% fee without hesitation. Fortunately I called them within 3 days and rebooked it AO was amazing as a tour guide. I feel like we made a friend. He was knowledgeable and clearly receptive to our needs whether it was food stops or bathroom stops. He seemed to anticipate what we wanted One of the tours was 12 hrs but he had the same energy at hour 12 as he did hour 1. I plan on coming back for the northern lights next year and will definitely use this wonderful family run company.Written April 15, 2017
- beu20170 contributionsNorthern Lights and Golden Circle ToursWe recently visited Reykjavik for the first time. We took two tours with Arctic Advanced, a Golden Circle day tour and an evening super Jeep tour to see the northern lights From my initial contact, Diana was so helpful and efficient in putting together our itinerary. She responded quickly to my numerous questions and even arranged for us to be met at the airport and taken to our hotel. Nothing was too much trouble. She stayed in contact with us during our vacation, as the weather conditions can change rapidly in Iceland and affect tours. They were flexible enough to reschedule our night trip to give us the best opportunity of seeing the lights. Our guide Ao was fantastic. Because of rescheduling he had a long day with us but his enthusiasm never flagged. We started our day tour a little earlier than most but it paid off as we visited sites without the usual crowds. The off road driving to the glacier was great and made possible by the Super Jeep, there is no way you could have driven yourself. Ao made the night tour for us, he was determined to enable us to see the lights. He was in contact with Diana as we drove in order to get up to date information on cloud cover and solar activity. His photography skills were an unexpected but much needed bonus, he took some amazing photographs of us under the northern lights! The tours were not cheap but they were worth every penny. Potential visitors should be aware that the chances of taking good pictures with an handheld smartphone are virtually zero, thus a quality camera with a stable tripod is really a requirement. Also bear this in mind if you are considering trying to take quality pictures from a boat and remember - the camera sees so much more than the naked eye! If we visit Iceland again we will definitely book with Arctic Advanced they are the go to guys. This is the only company I would chose. Professional, reliable and flexible, I cannot recommend this company enough. They made our holiday!! Without Ao we would not have come home with our memories captured in picturesWritten March 15, 2017
- Scooby C0 contributionsGreat Golden Circle and Northern Light TourWe were very lucky to have Gisli M. as a tour guide for two of the Arctic Advanced tours – the Golden Circle Tour and the Northern Lights Tour. The Super Jeep tour was definitely the way to go as we had to travel on the one day that had the most snowfall for a day in February since 1962. Gisli was a great driver who dealt with all that snow like it was nothing! He was extremely friendly and knowledgable. He loves what he does and that definitely shows through! The Circle Tour we took brought us through the National Park, included a snow mobile ride on the glacier, a stop at the “Gullfoss”Waterfall and “Great Geyser” and where the tectonic plates met in Iceland. Gisli provided a great explanation on everything we saw. Gisli tried really hard to find the Northern Lights for us, stopping at different locations while communicating with other tour guides, but alas, the weather did not cooperate. We definitely recommend using the Arcitc Advanced tour company and to ask for Gisli!Written February 28, 2017
- willayeh0 contributionsNorthern Lights TourMy girlfriends and I recently visited Iceland, hoping to catch the northern lights on this trip. We booked a tour through Arctic Advanced and were beyond pleased with our experience. We were picked up in Reykjavik and then taken out to "hunt" for the lights. Ao and Diana were extremely knowledgeable and knew exactly how to look for them, where to look for them, and how to capture it on film. They were so patient with us, and sincerely wanted make sure we could see the northern lights (even though the lights are so elusive). Luckily, we were able to see them on our first night! I highly recommend booking with Arctic Advanced!Written February 22, 2017
- Lxndse0 contributions3D2N trip with AoWe did a 3D2N trip on the southern coast with Arctic Advanced, had a great experience. I started exchanging Emails 2 months before with Diana and arranging all the details of this trip, she was always quick to reply and accommodated to all of our requests. On the trip, our guide Ao took us to many places that hardly any tourists visits on top of the regular tourists spots. He was always friendly, cheerful and flexible with schedule. The private tour are not cheap but I think it is definitely worth it!Written February 6, 2017
- misterking20170 contributionsGreat day trip!We did the "Golden Circle & Langjokull Glacier Private Super Jeep Day Tour" with Arctic Advanced in late December and had a great time. Ao, our guide, was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt, and everything else you would want. We did the Golden Circle in reverse, which made a lot of sense because daybreak did not come until after 10:00 am. Because we departed from Reykjavik a little earlier than most other Golden Circle tours (830 rather than 900), we had a few of the early stops nearly to ourselves. The highlight of the tour for us was driving out past Gulfoss waterfall to the edge of the Langjokull glacier. The road between Gufoss and Langjokull was covered in snow drifts, but Ao had no problem navigating the 4x4 super jeep. We would never have been able to drive so far ourselves, even though we rented a 4x4 SUV, because the snow drifts and embankments were so deep/steep. Ao's photography background paid off, too, as we stopped several times along the way for absolutely stunning photographs of the glacier and surrounding area. Doing the private tour with Arctic Advanced was much better than driving ourselves in a few other respects as well. First, Ao took us on a few roads and to a few attractions that we probably never would have found ourselves. One of them was a lake near Pingvillir National Park where the sandy beach was boiling, another was a beautiful waterfall a short distance away from Geysir (different than Gulfoss). Second, we were able to hit a few of the sites much more efficiently than if we had driven ourselves; Ao dropped us off at one end of Pingvillir and picked us up at the other so that we could walk straight through rather than doing a loop. This time savings helped us see as much as possible with the limited mid-winter daylight (approx. 1015 am - 400 pm). A final thought: The lesson we took away from our time in Iceland was that the weather and conditions change rapidly, making it difficult or impossible to stick to a pre-planned itinerary. We booked our day tour with Arctic Advanced at the last minute because conditions forced us to cancel a different activity the day before. Diana from Arctic Advanced responded to our inquiry immediately via e-mail. And Ao customized the trip to make the best use of the weather and light. He said this sort of customization and improvisation is what Arctic Advanced specializes in, and I believe it. We will book with them again if we return to Iceland in the future. Highly recommended!Written January 2, 2017
- ajth0mas0 contributionsNorthern Lights TourWe have recently experienced a Northern Lights tour through Arctic Advanced and we are very pleased with how professional and accommodating they were as a company. We had contacted numerous tour operators before leaving the UK and Diana from Arctic Advanced was definitely the quickest and most helpful with her responses to my questions. I immediately had a gut feeling this was the company to book through and we were not disappointed. We pre booked the Northern Lights tour for our second night in Reykjavik, but upon our arrival to Iceland the weather turned for the worse and we thought the tour would be cancelled. Luckily for us Diana was also keeping a close eye on the deteriorating conditions. Within an hour of arriving at our hotel, Diana made contact with us through our Hotel receptionist to offer us the chance to go on the tour a day early. The chance of seeing the lights was greater that night due to the more favourable conditions so we jumped at the chance. Two hours later Ao and Diana picked us up from the hotel. Prior to pick up, one of our party was feeling slightly concerned at the thought of being stuck in a car for four hours. However, we were all pleasantly surprised to find the beast of an off-road vehicle to be roomy and comfortable. Ao and Diana were both great fun and very knowledgeable. Conversation was flowing right through the night and I don't think any of us stopped smiling as we searched for the elusive Northern Lights. As you would expect, it was very dark so if you are looking for a sightseeing tour I think you would be better off considering one of their day tours. For us though, the lights were our main objective so it didn't bother us. The banter with Ao was hilarious and the driving was perfect for those who don't mind a little adrenaline rush. We felt like storm chasers as Diana was constantly checking the live reports and GPS, looking for areas of activity, all while Ao was leaning out of the window looking for signs of the lights, racing to any areas he felt offered a good chance of catching them. We were not having much luck that night, but that didn't affect Ao and Diana's enthusiasm. They were not willing to give up while there was a chance, but eventually we just had to call it a night. Unfortunately despite the activity being strong the clouds were just too thick to really make out any colours. As expected we were all left a little deflated, but none of us could say we did not enjoy ourselves and this made it a lot easier for us all to accept the no show. To their credit, Arctic Advanced did offer us the chance to try again later in the week if the conditions improved and lucky for us they did. On our second attempt we saw the lights thanks to the hard work of Ao and Diana. Overall it was a fantastic experience and we would happily recommend Arctic Advanced!Written November 28, 2016

I first reached out to Arctic Advanced a few months prior to wanting to schedule this trip. I let them know I planned to propose during this trip and wanted it to be very special and very private and they sure delivered. Diana was extremely helpful with coordinating times and was always very responsive via email communication. Ao personally called me to ensure we had the best plan set up for the proposal. Upon starting our tour, Ao picked us up right out front of our accommodation in downtown Reykjavik, had water and snacks ready for us, and was so extremely friendly and easy to talk to. He provided us with so much more than just a "tour"... he educated us on Icelandic culture, history, geography, and everything in between. When it came time for the special moment he captured the most stunning pictures so perfectly. Even went as far to surprise us with champaign after the big moment! In the end, we felt like we had made a true friend and could not be happier with our decision.
