What to expect
Your tour begins with pickup from downtown Reykjavik. Here, you’ll greet your guide and small group and travel to your diving point. After a safety briefing, you’ll don your equipment and embark on your first dive of the day.   After plunging into the icy water, you’ll discover ancient lava formations and the Silfra fissure — the tectonic boundary that separates North America from Eurasia. The gentle current and high visibility of the water makes exploration effortless and rewarding. Experience two dives of approximately 30 minutes before returning to the surface to dry off and discuss your exhilarating experience. Relax during the journey back to your original departure point.

Please note that PADI open water license or comparable is required to be able to participate in this tour. As all dives are performed in a dry suit, it is required to have a dry-suit certification or at least 10 logged drysuit dives to be able to join the tour.
Divers must supply their sizes of suit upon booking. It is recommended that your most recent dive has been within the last 2 years before diving in Silfra, as this dive is rated as a challenging dive.
Since you will be wearing snorkeling/dive mask to see underwater, there can be nothing in the way of the seal to keep them from filling up with water; That is, you cannot wear glasses underneath the mask; you will have to go without them, so wear contact lenses or bring your own goggles with prescription.
Please note: This is a challenging dive where you need to be capable of carrying heavy equipment up to 1300ft (400m).
As divers are aware, it is strongly advised to wait 24 hours after diving to fly.
Not wheelchair accessible
Travelers should have a strong physical fitness level
This experience requires good weather. If it’s canceled due to poor weather, you’ll be offered a different date or a full refund

Epic Experience Snorkeling Between 2 Tectonic Plates
Feb 2020
OMGoddess what an amazing experience. Our guide Robert got us geared up and prepared us for a lifetime opportunity to swim in COLD freshwater with deep visibility and blues and greens and browns that was stunning to witness.

Robert helped me laugh through my fear of the cold water and other than my hands I was able to enjoy and focus on the view rather than my chilly to the bone fingers.

I loved the workout this provided (40 minute swim and snorkel) and the buoyancy of our dry suits and how brave my body was to do this in mid February with air temperatures at -2 degrees celsius.

I truly enjoyed Robert's humor and how he kept me looking at the positive side of things and how much passion he has for his Joy Of Being. We took a shine to this young man who was endearing in so many ways.

I am so grateful for having had this experience and being in such good hands and feeling so safe and then so EMPOWERED by completing this adventure. Woohoo!!!!

And then of course there was the hot chocolate and tin of crisps that ROBERT brought from England yum!!!

We booked a trip with our dive shop in the US. We had Kuba and Louis as guides for the week. They made the trip phenomenal! Our expectations were exceeded, and I can't wait to come back! The diving in Iceland is truly amazing!!! Thank you very much for a memorable trip! We also added on a snowmobile glacier trip. Hellur was fantastic! The super jeep made the trip. It was icy and foggy, but still super fun!

Snorkeling in Silfra Fissure was one of the highlights of our trip for sure. The water is so clear, you can see everything around you like you're above water. Our guide Steve was awesome and helped make our experience great. He was attentive and helpful, and interested in where we were from and what we had planned for the rest of our trip. They make sure to do their best so you don't get wet, but I still got some water in my suit on one arm. Wasn't that bad! Do this tour!!

Wow, amazing!!!
This was such a great experience, seeing the fissure from that perspective was just incredible. Our tour guide, Steve, was very helpful, funny, and organized. Everything with him was done quick and he hustled us so we could go first which was definitely worth it. Would definitely recommend, and try to get in Steve's group if you can because you'll be glad you did.

Scuba between the continents
Apr 2018 • Solo
In my day job I'm a geologist, so this dive has been on my bucket list a long time. In order to be competent and comfortable on this dive I completed the SSI Dry Suit diving specialty before going to Iceland. I booked the Silfra dive with Arctic Adventures, and that was a great choice. Ok, sure, the water was cold. But the dive was spectacular. The visibility was probably 100 meters (300 feet), and swimming between two sheer vertical walls was thrilling. My guide Zolti was possibly the most accomplished diver I have ever dove with, and he showed me a number of dry suit diving tricks. This dive is appropriate for experienced divers. For beginner divers I think I would recommend trying snorkeling this first.

Dear zeke1177, Thank you very much for leaving this review, it made us very happy to read this! Silfra is a fascinating environment for most anyone, but for a geologist this continental fissure is an absolute treasure. You certainly went a long way in getting a dry suit certification specifically for this dive, and it is very good to hear that you feel it was all worth it. We certainly loved to welcome you on our tour! In an environment like this a more experienced and well prepared driver will have an easier time in enjoying the tour than a beginner, but as long as they hold a dry suit certification or a minimum of 10 logged dry-suit dives, anyone is welcome on this tour. Otherwise, we agree with you that the snorkeling tour is a great alternative! We do hope you will get a chance to spend some more time in Iceland in the future, this country holds so many interesting places for geologists and we would love to show you some more of them! All the best, Arctic Adventures

Very professional and knowledgeable. Great experience
During the snorkeling adventure all of the artic adventures staff was very friendly and helpful to my wife and I. From the safety talks to gearing us up for the dive it was very well run. They weren’t pushy to get the next group going they really let you take your time, get comfortable and enjoy the Silfra diving experience. Highly recommend.

Dear Bradley O, Thank you very much for leaving this review, it is much appreciated! Silfra is a breathtaking environment, and snorkeling there is not something anyone should be rushed through. That's exactly why we make sure to take our time for each and every customer before, during and after the tour. We are really happy to hear that you enjoyed your tour so thoroughly and hope to welcome you back to Iceland very soon! All the best, Arctic Adventures

Average customer service on the dive
So I see lots of reviews on the dive and I wanted to give my option. As I'm with a mixed review with the tour outfit and not the Silfra dive.

Let's start off with the pick up time to start off the tour. We were on time ( even 20 min or so early ) but from what we were told someone's pickup time was 1.5 hours later than was actually scheduled.
Our time of pick up was 7:30AM and their office had a pickup of 9:00AM for one person. Only four customers in the van with 3 people already in the van, so let's just say our tour didn't start off on the right foot which I'm sure this late start could have made one of the dive masters ( which is why this review is only average ) felt rushed with time which in turned made our dive poor.
* full disclaimer this was our third dive as a couple with a dry suit.

Now on to the dive. The gear they provided was excellent and we both enjoyed the setup and our brief description of the area. Keep in mind since our late start we were suppose to be in the water hours ago and perhaps done.

Once the gear was on we had to wait in line which is normal and we didn't even mind. This is where I feel the dive went south and we didn't get great customer service.

Once in the water we were weighted properly and we started the dive. We both started off strong for the first part of the dive with was good, then came a few issues on our part with buoyancy. Our skills were not refined and that's to be expected with only two previous dives before hand. Now that we were underway we both felt that the dive guide was frustrated with us. We could tell by his hand gestures and what lead up the end of the dive. This is where I (we) feel customer service and some patients should of came into play seeing that no one is a professional from the start.

Maybe 25min into the dive I noticed my GF was struggling with the dive and I felt it was time to stop the dive. Once we came up she told me she didn't feel good and almost passed out coming to the surface. This made me very nervous for her condtion, as diving can be stressful and everybody reacts differently.

Now at the surface, we felt extremely rushed to get out of the water. Even thou he knew ( I forget the dive masters name) she wasn't feeling well and wanted to throw up. I stayed with her and she did her best to come back to shore. The dive guy didn't even stay with us or even talk to her about her health condtion. I felt he didn't even try to comfort her in any way but to just get out of the water. Which is ok, but no sympathy to fact she was sick. Even when my GF told him, he didn't say anything and left us. He was already heading to the platform before i had time to get her breathing under control and to take some time for her to collect her bearings and to assure her everything is fine and we will get back to shore soon.

This is now where I feel that since we had a late start to our day which wasn't our fault, that the dive guy felt rushed with time but that does not excuse the lack of communication on his part and to stay with us, as my GF was struggling. No matter if the tour was running late or the fact it was a Sunday, we payed a large sum of money for the tour and some " SOME" customer service should be at hand. Even if we have a dry suit course certificate does not make us or anyone dive experts to that level and some people get sick.

Once out of the water we took her gear off so she could breath before passing out.
Once at the van she changed her cloths and we waited to depart.

One of the lovely female tour guys attended to her for a while when the van was getting loaded. This guide made her feel better as she was struggling with her illness.

The dive scenery was great. Visibility was 100% clear and the equipment was top notch.

Even the guy driving the van was great and very kind.

We felt more attention or care is needed for someone with an illness during the dive and more consideration of diving skills, as we or most people that have a limited number for dry suit dives will need a guide that will be understanding to the situation.

I'm sure other dive masters or guides are great, perhaps this day was an off day.

Dear Calgary Man Y, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I was very disappointed to read of the problems you and your girlfriend encountered during your tour with us. In an extreme environment like Silfra safety needs to be our number one priority. Of course good equipment is important, but it does not end there. We do not tolerate careless behavior among our team; please rest assured that our manager for the diving tours is aware of this incident and the matter will be addressed with the concerned parties. If you have not already done so please do feel free to send us an email at info@adventures.is as we would like to look into this matter with more detail. Again, we are very sorry that your experience was not what the two of you had expected it to be. Best regards, Larissa Customer Service

Great Experience!
I had a brilliant time snorkelling the amazing Silfra Fissure. My guide was Ronan and he was really good at explaining how to use the equipment, how to make the most of the experience etc. It certainly was an experience- well below zero and snowing whilst we were in the water! Dry suit did the job thankfully!

Thank you all!!!
We met at the site and were running late yet Christos and the others were so wonderful and patient. They took care of my 12 yr old son William and made sure he was ready to go. We had an amazing experience. I just can’t say enough about the staff. This is the reason the experience was so amazing. Thanks to all and please know that you are creating wonderful memories for your customers. Happy New Year to you all!!!!
