Overview
Many day trips from Reykjavik head exclusively to the Golden Circle or spend only an hour or so at a glacier cave. This tour stands out by offering something more adventurous: a full day of hiking and ice climbing at Solheimajökull. Explore the glacier’s crevasses, ridges, and sinkholes with a guide, and climb a sheer ice wall. Don’t stress about transportation, and stop at Skogafoss waterfall on the return journey.
What to Expect
This full-day tour is a great way to experience the natural beauty of Iceland by trying your hand at ice hiking and climbing. The tour begins from authorized pickup points in Reykjavik, where you board your minibus and make the drive to the glacier.

Upon arrival, meet your glacier guide and receive your equipment and a safety briefing. Then, set out on the surface of the glacier’s ice “tongue,” the part that juts from the main body as it crawls toward the ocean. Continue by exploring crevasses, cracks, ridges, and sinkholes with your guide.

Next, climb a sheer ice wall using the gear included with the tour: crampons, ice axes, and safety ropes. Take advantage of the time spent at the top by taking in sublime views.

Get back on the minibus and head back to Reykjavik. Stop at Skogafoss waterfall along the way, and end your tour with a drop-off at your original departure point.

Only the best and the most experienced

I could repeat all the amazing things most reviews tell you about this ice climbing company, but instead I’ll focus on the expert staff they employ. You see, I didn’t think I could make that climb. If you’re anything like me, unable to make it...More

We had a wonderful time hiking the glacier at Solheimajokull! The entire walk was about 3 hours from beginning to end. I felt like the tour company knew what they were doing, they double and triple checked equipment and safety and guests were top of...More

Awesome experience

The glacier hike was one of the highlights of the trip. I always worry about signing up for tours like this and it being too touristy. That was hardly the case here. It was a great small group, we had plenty of time to explore,...More

Amazing opportunity to see a natural wonder and experience climbing

Can’t begin to describe the majestic beauty of the glacier, and the profound sadness produced by the effect of man made global warming. That aside, the chance to climb with excellent guidance up 18-20 foot wall of ice for the first time was unforgettable. Our...More

Hi Jackie, My husband is also afraid of heights and had no trouble. You go up a wall, and you decide how high you want to go. It’s a workout, not everyone makes it to the top, but it’s fun to try it. Great excursion! Hope... More

For the hike, you do not have to be a in great shape. It's not very strenuous. As for the ice climb, its difficult, but the guides don't push you to do it. You can always try it and if you aren't comfortable or if you only... More
