Despite this trip being around 14 hours it was definitely worth every minute and the time flies by! The tour had a great amount of stops and a long enough amount of time at each stop with 1 hour at the glacial lagoon which was a good length of time to see each place. The lagoon and diamond beach were beautiful and the stops on the way at Skogafoss waterfall and the town of Vik were also amazing and spread out well.

Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and even stopped at the side of the road for us to take pictures of the beautiful sunrise, he really went above and beyond to make sure we could make the most of the day trip! He was also an excellent driver which was shown when he drove us back to Reykjavik in a heavy snow storm in the dark!

Thank you elliesauerzapf for writing a such a thorough review of the South Coast and Jokulsarlon Glacier lagoon tour. So happy that you enjoyed this long tour despite the start in darkness but ever so rewarding sunrise on the way. Our dark Winter days can be very special. Your comments and compliments are very much appreciated and glad to see that our staff was so accommodating

This will probably be one of the longest day tours you will ever take. I had to be at the pick-up point at 7:30 a.m. and did not return until nearly midnight. It is a long drive to Jokulsarlon, but it is worth seeing. We stopped at a waterfall and a glacier en route, but the highlight had to be Jokulsarlon. The boat trip on the glacier lagoon is not included, but it is a must if you really want to appreciate the lagoon with its myriad icebergs. We then visited Diamond Beach, where the chunks of ice carried out to see are washed up on the beach and glisten like diamonds.

Thank you Robert D for writing a review of yes, our longest day tour to the South Coast and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon. The trip is long in duration but glad you were able to appreciate one of the locations that is so spectacular as the glacier lagoon and the icebergs floating towards the sea. The boat ride is a must, glad you joined.

The Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is a breathtakingly beautiful sight, and one you should make the effort to see. For those who are limited by time or means of transport, consider the day trip which is offered by a number of different tour operators from Reykjavík. Having done the day trip recently, here’s my suggestions for maximising the enjoyment of such a long trip.
1. Jökulsárlón is located on the south-eastern shore of Iceland, and it will take you almost 5 hours to drive there. So a day trip on a coach is going to be a long day, around 15 hours.
2. A number of different companies offer the excursion, all slightly different. Look at their itineraries and do your own research, checking out the various attractions they will call at during the day. Make sure the the sights included best suit what you want to see.
3. Carefully consider the amount of time to be spent at Jökulsárlón . You will need around two hours there to take in and explore this beautiful site, to take the cruise (optional but fully recommended) amongst the icebergs, and to walk to Diamond Beach. You’ll appreciate it more if you are not rushed and can enjoy this special place at leisure.
4. You will be sitting in a coach for a long time. Whilst bathroom and food stops will be incorporated into your schedule, take some snacks and drinks for your journey.
5. Take a warm and waterproof jacket with you, especially if you are taking the boat excursion on the lagoon, and / or if you are visiting the Seljalandsfoss waterfall and planning to walk behind the falls. Sturdy walking / hiking shoes are essential.

The day trip we selected was booked through a site called ‘Get Your Guide’ and was provided by BusTravel Iceland. We could not have been happier with our choice. We spent nearly two hours at the lJökulsárlón lagoon. The other sites we visited (either on the way to or back from, with adequate amounts of time at each) were the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, the Skeiðará Bridge Monument, Laufskálavarða with its field of cairns, and Vik. Vik was the evening meal stop.

Our tour guide was outstanding and extremely knowledgeable, providing a lot of information in an interesting and very entertaining way. She was very helpful to passengers who had not included the boat excursion on the lagoon and who had decided to do on seeing what it entailed, making the necessary arrangements without fuss. She didn’t rattle on endlessly; there were quiet times to just enjoy the beautiful scenery. The bus driver was careful and courteous, anf the coach comfortable and clean.

As soon as you see Jökulsárlón, you will. immediately think to yourself: “That long journey was absolutely worth it”!

We got to see so many places that were on our list to visit while in Iceland. The guide, Oliver, was so knowledgeable about any subject you could think of from the history of Iceland to wildlife. This is a great way to learn and see a lot if it’s your first visit to Iceland. I highly recommend this tour.

A long but worthwhile bus ride from Reykjavik. See two waterfalls, the southern coast, and the glacial lagoon.

We departed our pick-up point at 8AM and drove all morning across route 1, which generally follows the southern coast when heading east from Reykjavik. Taking a stop for bathrooms at 9:30AM, we made good time towards Vik. Shortly afterwards we stopped at the first of two waterfalls (we went to the other on the way back) for 20 minutes. We ate lunch in Vik and then drove another three hours to the lagoon and Diamond beach. The boat (duck boat) tour at the lagoon was well worth it.

I suggest Dramamine for the trip as the bus ride is a long one and the road at times is not smooth. The restaurants all took Amex/Visa and we did not use cash. Starting the day with some Advil, drinks, and snacks also made the day more pleasant.

Our driver Sal and guide “Brandon” did a great job. Brandon was quite entertaining with his commentary and we learned several new things about the country.

Get a window seat as, if the weather is nice, the views are stunning as you pass three glaciers.

This was an expensive and all day (we returned at 10PM) trip but it was worth it.

We had fantastic weather with great visibility, which is rare here. We took raincoat and warm jackets, both of which we needed even in August. Hiking boots were a good idea for the 2nd waterfall stop as the path was a bit muddy and steep.

This glacier lagoon was magical! We took a cruise around the lagoon and encountered 1,000 year old ice with glacier ice floating around you. It was simply breathtaking. This isn't too far from Vik where most people go to see the black sand beach so might as well drive a little farther and explore this lake. It's also right by diamond beach. This is a must when visiting Iceland!

To stay upbeat as a tour guide for that long and brilliant driving skills from the driver as past afew up turned cars! Never forget this trip Thankyou
