About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Mikendavid0 contributionsSplendid attentive tour of north Iceland — exactly what we were looking for.We can’t speak highly enough of Francesco and Gunnar. We — two couples — set out to explore north Iceland, to see the Northern Lights in great settings (weather permitting!), and to soak in as many geothermal baths as possible. Francesco responded immediately and attentively to our wish list; he proposed the perfect itinerary. As is always the case, weather is unpredictable; but that was not a problem: each day, Francesco and Gunnar reorganized the itinerary to optimize our experience. Francesco was with us every day (except one when Gunnar stepped in); he drove us all over the region. Francesco has lived in this region for over ten years and is committed to it. Gunnar owns the company; he’s lived here his entire life (he showed us the house he grew up in). Fabulous passionate information, history, and colorful tales.Written April 9, 2024
- Daydream073897233310 contributionsFantastic experience in North IcelandSpent a wonderful couple of days in North Iceland thanks to Travel North! Prior to arriving, Francesco was very helpful in arranging activities over email and answering any and all questions I had. On arrival, Lorenzo provided an excellent airport transfer with an unforgettable stop at Goðafoss, and the next day took me on a great tour of the Diamond Circle taking in Mývatn, Dettifoss and Ásbyrgi, with detailed explanations of each stop and also of all the scenery we were passing on the road. In Húsavík I thoroughly enjoyed the Eurovision walking tour led by Giudetta, which covered the film locations extensively drawing on her experiences in the town during filming, and also the history of the town itself. Would thoroughly recommend Travel North!Written December 2, 2023
- UnaW0 contributionsHusavik locations and historyWe really enjoyed this walk with Francesco who took us to the film location sites and told us some “ behind the scenes” stories. Some of these were via his partner and friends who had been extras. We had not previously heard about the Oscar nomination for the song so that was also interesting. We also learnt about the town itself and the history of fishing and tourism. We had recommendations for places to eat and drink and for local walks. This experience really adds to our enjoyment of our 3 days in Husavik.Written August 27, 2023
- xxLori0 contributionsWonderful IcelandWe had a great experience with Travel North. Lorenzo guided us in a tour all around Iceland discovering the best spots of the isle. From geysers to waterfalls, from glaciers to coastal environments our visit has been very interesting and exciting. Our guide was extremely competent and kind. Great whale watching tour in Husavik. Special thanks to Francesco Perini for the amazing visit to Husavik Whale Museum.Written August 16, 2023
- Q146JYrobr0 contributionsHighlight of our European AdventureThis tour was the highlight of our 20th Wedding Anniversary trip to Europe. (Which is saying a lot considering we also went to London, Stonehenge, Bath, Windsor, Canterbury, Dublin, Belfast and made several other stops in Iceland). We are big 'Eurovision: Fire Saga' fans and seeing all the places from the movie was super cool. My wife and I are seriously considering spending a summer in Husavik in the future. We can totally see why the producers picked Husavik as the ideal 'home town's as the setting of the movie and as the inspiration for, and title of, the Oscar nominated song of the same name. We highly recommend this tour and a visit to this awesome country and small town in general!Written August 13, 2023

- ltoel0 contributionsFantastic Experience with our Iceland OdysseyFor our trip to Iceland, we wanted something more personalized that would include hiking and seeing things “off the beaten path”. Since my husband is a retired hydrogeologist, we wanted to explore the “cool geology” of Iceland more than the usual tours would offer. Also, we wanted to visit Husavik, now known as the town from the movie “Eurovision: Story of Fire Saga” and we are huge fans! The tours we initially found were group tours and focused on the Ring Road and major attractions (i.e. buses in and out) and would not include Husavik, and we also talked to a travel agent (who was honest and said she had nothing that would be suitable for what we wanted). We then did our own search for hotels in Husavik, found the Cape Hotel and from there found the Eurovision Walking Tour and were linked to Travel North. And we struck gold!! Travel North is based in Husavik, and after a couple of video chats with Francesco (forever now known as BEST.GUIDE.EVER) he designed and organized the most amazing tour. Truly a trip of a lifetime, he hit it all – the cool geology like volcanos, lava fields, glaciers, geologic formations, waterfalls, lakes, the hikes, museums and other cultural sites, and my personal favorite geologic sites – geothermal spas! It was all just simply wonderful. We stayed in Husavik for multiple days as kind of a “base camp” to do local day trips before heading out and taking the eastern side of the Ring Road back to Reykjavik with more amazing stops along the way! We did start our first day in Husavik with the Eurovision Walking Tour hosted by Guiditta – she did a fantastic job on hitting the highlights from scenes of the movie, and of course a stop at the Ja Ja Ding Dong Bar. We were thrilled to find out she was an extra in the movie!!! Definitely a highlight of the trip. Then, with Francesco as our guide/host, we simply met in the mornings, and were off for the day’s itinerary. Francesco is so knowledgeable about the geology, history, culture and fun facts about Iceland. AND he is very thorough with booking everything and attending to all the details while keeping us appraised with any changes and options due to road and weather conditions/volcano activity. And we saw the Northern Lights! While one can’t guarantee seeing the Northern Lights - conditions have to be just right for them to appear - it wouldn’t surprise me if somehow Francesco managed to organize that too. It was a “bucket list” dream trip – all we had to do is show up with our rain and hiking gear (and gifts for the elves!) After the first day we were already planning our next trip with Travel North and Francesco. Whether you choose to self-drive using one of their itineraries or make use of their guided tours, we highly recommend Travel North. You will be one happy traveler!Written October 9, 2021
- 621VladC0 contributionsTravel North in IcelandIf you travel to Iceland, you must see the North. Amazing sights and better weather in summer than the South. We were worried about a long driving time to Akureyri. The flights by Icelandair from Reykjavik to Akureyri are only 45’ and pretty comfortable. The domestic airport in Reykjavik is 5’ drive from downtown Reykjavik. We booked our Northern tours with Travel North, a full service agency in Husavik (about 50’ drive from Akureyri). Giuditta was very helpful with scheduling the tours and guiding the tour in Husavik. This small charming town became famous due to the song The Story of Fire Saga which took multiple awards at Eurovision. Most of our tours were guided by Gunnar - the agency manager. Gunnar is an outstanding guide with deep knowledge and understanding of the area. At least two of the tours from Akureyri/Husavik are a must: Myvatn Lake area and Arctic Shores (going North from Akureyri along the breathtaking fjords). The tour to Jökulsárgljúfur is an opportunity to hike along the fissure created at the meeting line of the major tectonic plates (European-Asian and American). Travel North organizes also self driven tours including itinerary design, hotel reservations etc..Written August 31, 2021
- AleGronchi0 contributionsIceland at a glance in 14 days: a fantastic travel super well organizedWe hade a self-driving tour for 14 days in Iceland this August, organized by Travel North. It was simply amazing. The support of the agency was excellent. We had a daily chat with them, who kept assist us for the whole trip. There is no specific place better than others. Everything was really nice, but I'd like to underline how effective was the email exchange with Francesco and Giuditta beforehand to shape the program according to our wishes. We really enjoyed the trip and a special thank to them is to be given!Written August 29, 2020
- Rischiavo0 contributionsExcellent fly and drive tour, well organized and accurate supportback from a 12 days fly and drive tour counterclockwise along Ring Road from/to Reykjavik with extension on Snaefellsnes peninsula: what to say? Accurate and detailed organization, precious all the indications and special suggestions concerning itinerary as well as the daily contacts on road/weather situations. In conclusion a very positive opinion and our best compliments to Giuditta (our main contact) and Francesco for the assistance and professionalism reserved to us. If you want to visit Iceland (magic country by the extreme nature of the territory, its wildlife and flora, the hospitality of the people) do contact Travel North.Written July 2, 2019

The trip of a lifetime in just 5 days! We were able to pack in so many incredible experiences thanks to Travel North. Dettafoss, Asbyrgi, and Dimmuborgir were just a few grand highlights in those dazzling, dizzying few days. Of course Bjórböðin and Jarðböðin við Mývatn can't be missed.
Giuditta and Francesco were absolutely incredible hosts, guides, planners, and educators. They booked us tickets to attractions, provided great directions, restaurant recommendations, set us up with a rental car, and showed us the sights in Húsavík and the Diamond Circle. We were blown away by the breadth and depth knowledge and experience. They've been everywhere! Lovely and amazing people whom we're fortunate to have met.
Iceland is a truly remarkable place that changed my life to visit. It's a place of such beauty and majesty that it is at times overwhelming and even uncanny. Over a week after getting home, it's still hard to think of anything else.

I've just come home from from a wonderful tour of northern Iceland, guided by Francesco. True, Iceland is beautiful, but you need the right, experienced, and knowledgeable guide to explore the best spots.
That's what we did: the Húsavík region is rich with interesting places to visit, both culturally and photographically. I've loved the Akureyri area, especially the tiny Grimsey island, and the area around Sauðárkrókur.
Having such an expert and kind guide made the tour really special. I can't wait to come back to experience some more or the Icelandic lore through tales and images.
