About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- W7444PWjamesz0 contributionsBest aurora experience!Amazing trip to the Forest Lagoon and seeing the aurora. Siggi was a great guide! He knew exactly where to go and when to be there. It was incredible!Written March 19, 2025
- tourista123450 contributionsGreat ServiceWell, our tour was cancelled due to not enough people signing up. I think it was that way for most tour companies that day. But our guide tried as hard as he could to book us on another company's tour, which I thought was going above and beyond. We did business with these people two other times and would highly recommend them to anyone who asks.Written March 19, 2025
- tourista123450 contributionsBest guide ever!We were so lucky to have traveled with Imagine Iceland. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the conditions that were required to view the lights and could spot them even before they appeared to the rest of us lowly mortals. The lights weren't as vibrant as normal, so he even offered us a free return trip for the next night. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with him and will take the same tour the next time we are in Akureyri.Written March 18, 2025
- 376katief0 contributionsMost amazing experienceThe most amazing time, the Northern Lights literally danced across the sky for us. Arman was welcoming, funny and a great guide. He was genuinely excited about the fantastic light show we got to see. Thoroughly recommended.Written March 8, 2025
- MissT910 contributionsNorthern lightsThe second trip with this company. The lights were okay but not spectacular on the first trip so Arman took us the following evening free of charge. Great lights which was wonderful for our daughter as it was a birthday treat for her. Would thoroughly recommend this company. Great ServiceWritten March 4, 2025
- jadeyat0 contributionsSpectacular experienceArmann was a fantastic guide! Upbeat and hilarious the entire time. I had a great group of people with me on the tour. It was a rather cold night, but a spectacular night for the northern lights. Armann even pointed out the constellations, and shared stories. Armann took photos, and also helped the group with their cameras/ phones. I highly recommend this tour!Written January 28, 2025
- marysD3383WA0 contributionsA 10 star night of nature's northern lightsOur guide took us to a nearby rural area and nature gave us an amazing experience. Although the predictors said it might be a good night, nature gave us a 10 star show. With our guide's tips we got pictures of every form of aurora. As we were driving back into town we saw the sky light up, he found another dark area and we stopped to see a corona . A great, but cold, 2 hours.Written January 23, 2025
- janicesmith630 contributionsAmazing nightSet off into the cold dark night with Arman, sorry if spelt wrong. Straight away you got the feeling was going to be a good night. Funny guy, great personality. Informative and interesting. Drove us out of town to a dark cold spot. How he finds the rds in all the snow is amazing in itself. Packed up to see lights, which just got better and better as the time passed. Was well worth the staying out late in the freezing night. Made my birthday a memorable one as the lights put on a show even visible with the naked eye. Really do recommend this company and would defo use them again in future. He was right up our street with his level of sarcasm. Loved it. Wow amazingWritten January 21, 2025
- S9719KMsteved0 contributionsA Wonderful Tour To RememberAn excellent tour, very interesting and lots of highlights including the mud pools, steam vents and seeing the Godafoss waterfall at dusk with very few people around. The Myvatn natural pool experience rounded off a great day. Norbert and Armann were super hosts and know Northern Iceland inside out, so their tours are highly recommended.Written January 6, 2025
- sunny13580 contributionsShowed us Northern light on a closed holiday. Thank you!A great trip just a few minutes away from hour hotel to see the Northern light. The guide is very experienced, very attentive and ensured that we had a great experience. The best thing is that the office was closed, however, the company changed the plan as the forecast for Northern light was good. Thank you for your flexibility!Written January 5, 2025
- Bunnyrabbit1230 contributionsWonderful experienceI cannot rate this company highly enough. Armann was a fountain of knowledge, humour and enthusiasm. He was sensitive to what we needed, while gently guiding our decisions based on his experience and expertise. We had the most wonderful experience and if I could give him 6 stars, I would! Thank you so very much- we will never forget this day ( and not just because it was -27 degrees!)Written December 31, 2024

- GingerBiscuitHead0 contributionsBook this tour!Would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Akureyri. Tour guide was brilliant - his knowledge and sense of humour really made the trip. Stunning places on the tour from Godafoss waterfall to all the volcanic stops - lava tubes, tectonic plates, etc. Iceland is a really beautiful country and you get to see so much of this on the tour.Written December 30, 2024

I couldn’t recommend this tour enough. We had such an enjoyable day in a group of 12 lovely people. Was the favourite tour of all our time cruising with Norwegian Prima. We booked all our tours privately, price difference to those sold on the cruise was ridiculous. Imagine Iceland Travel met us at the port where the cruise docked.
We had Norbert for our bus driver and guide for the day. They waited a while at the dock for a couple booked that didn’t show, however despite the delayed start we had a massive day with lots of extra little stops added in.
Norbert was full of local information and fabulous stories of history in all the areas we visited.
Norbert phoned ahead to make sure those who wanted to could go into the Nature Baths, we simply paid the extra on arrival.
Constantly checked with all of us on the tour time needed to be back on the cruise ship making sure we were back well & truly before departure times, while still adding extra stops so we got the most value for our tour.
Goðafoss waterfall
Lake Mytvan Hot Springs
Dimmuborgir - home of the Yule Lads
Underground Hot Springs (used in filming of Game of Thrones
Tectonic Plates.
Mývatn Nature Baths
Norbert also took time at each spot to take photos for all those attending.

The perfect solution for those who, on a cruise, want to get the same results and at lower prices than those proposed by Costa (which lives up to its name, that is, anything costs a lot). Compared to Costa's offers it must be said, the guide speaks only in English, but slowly so it is easily understandable. Usually instead Costa Iceland tours have English Guide and Italian translator and this facility all those who were not sufficiently familiar with English. Here, however, the differences with the tours of the shipping company mentioned above end. In fact you will visit exactly the same sites you will be treated very well by the staff who welcomes you (since it was raining not to keep us under water made us enter a courtesy minibus waiting for the official one). The bus, which carries 17 people, will pick you up under the ship and, on the way back, you can choose whether to stop in Downtown Akureyri (you do not expect much) or under the ship. For those who choose, like us, to get off at Downtown Akureyri, the distance to go back to the ship, always in sight, is very short 10 mi of walk. Unfortunately I don't remember the unpronounceable name of the Guide because it was very complicated but I guarantee that it was affable and professional which also led us to the cave of Grjòtagia which should have been used as a location in the series Game of Thrones. Ultimately I highly recommend the experience.

My wife and I did this tour on a summer 2022 Norway and Iceland cruise. The whole day was good value (given how expensive Iceland can be) and the scenery was amazing.
We started off visiting the Goðafoss Waterfall with enough time to have a short walk around (could have easily spent more time here on another visit) and after a comfort stop we headed to the Dimmuborgir Lava Field, where we had a guided walk around part of the site, including a small cave where the mischievous Santa Clauses had clearly made home. Our guide did well not to lose some of the group here as people started to wander off, which wasn't helpful.
Next up was the mud pools at Hverir, which was a surreal and outworldly landscape, but on such a cold day the warmth coming from the volcanic fumaroles was very welcome. After here we headed to the Myvatn Nature Baths although we opted to visit the cave at Grjótagjá where you could stride across from the Eurasian tectonic plate to the American plate...the guide was happy to take your photos here.
After that we headed back to the Mývatn Nature Baths to pick the others up and we had time for a snack and drink in the cafe there, before heading back to the port with a short photo stop overlooking the town.
Overall it was good value and an enjoyable tour...just a shame the weather was so cold on the day we did it (3 degrees Celsius - in July - which the guide said was cold, even for Iceland). Well worth doing and highly recommended.

I would probably give this a 3 but the bus was no good. Each bus holds 18-20, but they limited folks to 17 because some side windows were clouded over and not sight worthy. Since we were last on we were stuck in the last row, which not only had clouded windows but a bulkhead which limited most of our view. I’m addition, we couldn’t hear any of the narration from the driver unless the buss was at a complete stop. People kept asking to turn up the volume but when done it would squelch and he would turn it back down. So not only did we not see anything in route but we don’t hear anything. Maybe that was better, as if we were able to hear about the wonderful countryside and sights but not see them , it might have been worse! I suspect if your one of the first dozen to board you’ll enjoy it, but after that it is wasted money.

We booked the “Lake Myvatn Day Tour and Godafoss Waterfall for Cruise Ships” through Imagine Iceland Travel and were extremely pleased. We were able to see several of the key sites in a day and it was impressive. We were planning on going in the baths at Lake Myvatn, however when we arrived, there was a 45 minute line to get it in and by the time we would be able to get in and out, we would only have about 15 minutes to enjoy the bath. It wasn’t worth the 40 Euros per person price for us. Overall, the tour was great and Gunner, our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour very enjoyable for us.

If you have the time, I would highly recommend this day trip as the views are spectacular. Left early in the morning when everything was still covered with mist but as the sun came out, the mist disappeared. Godafoos waterfall was our last stop and we had plenty of time to walk around and take photos from various sides of the falls. At one of the local food stopsGot to try the rye bread topped with smoked artic chard. The bread is locally baked in the ground for 24 hours. Would highly recommend bringing a headnet to protect your face from thousands of black flies! Overall, it was a great day trip!

We booked this tour through Imagine Iceland Travel and our tour was driven and guided by Trausti .
Our van was waiting at our port when we arrived by cruise ship and our small group of 12 set off in a comfortable van for our 6 hour tour.
Our tour Lake Myvatn day tour and Godafoss waterfall for cruise ships from Akureyri port was fantastic.
We booked off the ship
Our guide was happy, laughing often, had a great local knowledge, answered many questions from our group and was patient when some of the group were late returning from site visits.
Although we wish we had more time in each of our stops, we saw lots and ti finish off with a swim in the Myvatn springs topped our day off.
Can throughly recommend this tour company and the tour we did

We really enjoyed this scenic drive and visit to Godafoss although we wish our schedule had allowed a little more time there. The time was well spent at the boiling mudpits and the huge crack where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. The Myvatn baths were lovely. We enjoyed our guide John's commentary and sense of humor. The small group size (16) made it easier than a large bus.

We were met by the tour guide in the carpark of the port, very easy to identify and locate. Our mid-size van (19 passengers) took us throughout the northern part of Iceland visiting lava fields, mud pools, waterfalls, nature baths and more.
Our guide lives in Akureyri, he told us about local Christmas traditions (13 sons), where Game of Thrones and other movies were shot, where the famous 'rock stars live' and how they are invincible as they 'are vikings'. None of the group wanted to go to the hot water baths so we stayed only 30mins at this location to get lunch (self purchased). I would say Blue Lagoon is a far superior option than the Myvatan Nature baths just from our experience.
Only scored it a 4/5 as felt some of the stops were unecessarily rushed, would have liked to have spent more than 20 mins as Godafoss falls and not visited Myvatan baths at all.
Flies are a big deal around the Myvatan area, so if you are bothered by them, you would be best to invest in a bug/fly hood before visiting this area.

Wonderful! Took this from the HAL cruise ship in July. We had ample time at the waterfalls. I found Lake Myvatn to be a less touristy, less commercialized mineral bath than Blue Lagoon seemed to be (I didn't go there but saw videos and heard from others who had). It had a local, casual feel that I very much enjoyed. We grabbed a snack there too and the food was quite good, as was the service.
