About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sunkissed_Smiling0 contributionsBook with Star Travel and you won't regret itWe booked a Winter Combo with Star Travel in Akureyri so did the Northern Lights Tour, Lake Myvatn tour with nature baths, and received airport transfers as part of the package. We also booked the Forest Lagoon entrance and whale watching through their service. We cannot praise Star Travel enough, they were brilliant! The tours were incredible, Siggi was friendly, professional, patient and knowledgeable. It was obvious that he loves Akureyri and enjoyed sharing his knowledge. He went above and beyond to make everyone's trip special. Reynir was very responsive via email and phone, replying really quickly to queries and questions. Unfortunately the whale watching was cancelled and he processed a refund within minutes, no hassle at all. He drove us to and from the airport, was always on time and was kind enough to show us the main spots in town on the way to the hotel. If you're thinking about booking with Star Travel, go for it! We've travelled a lot, and used many companies... Star Travel is easily the best we've used across the world. Service was 10/10 and the experiences were amazing. We will 100% use Star Travel when we return to Iceland.Written January 11, 2025
- lindseymH3771WY0 contributionsA great day out!Absolutely exceeded our expectations. Siggy was a brilliant guide and it felt like we were with a very knowledgeable friend! We had considered hiring a car but so glad we didn't. You really have to know the roads to get the best out of this part of Iceland in winter. Amazing day out with a nice dip in the Myvatn Nature baths to finishWritten January 8, 2025
- feldy19830 contributionsPerfect snapshot of North IcelandSimply a sensational day tour. Siggy was an amazing guide who couldn’t do enough. There were 10 of us in a Mercedes mini bus and despite the limited daylight and insane snow, had a phenomenal time. All the stops - Godafoss, Dimmuborgir, Lake Myvatn, craters, geothermal baths never felt rushed and were sympathetically explained. Lending as crampons was inspired. Would definitely travel with Star againWritten December 29, 2024
- lewee1230 contributionsFantastic tour. Star Travel are great. Highly recommended!Fantastic tour. Spent plenty of time at the planned areas which were all amazing, and even stopped off for a couple of other little treats along the way. Siggi, the guide, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful at all times. He knows the area very well. The weather was testing at times and his driving was great. Arna was helpful when initially making the booking and the minibus was clean and smart. I highly recommend Star Travel. I preferred this tour over the Golden Circle tour in Reykjavik. The groups are smaller and the areas visited were far less busy.Written December 29, 2024
- 700emmaleighs0 contributionsIceland!!Aurora Borealis in Iceland, Land of the Sagas. The Northern Lights, also called Aurora Borealis, and Norðurljós in Icelandic, are one of the most spectacular shows on this earth and can frequently be seen in Iceland from September through March on clear and crisp nights. The Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, appear in a clear night sky as swirling rivers of greenish-blue light. They move and dance unpredictably; sometimes barely perceptible, then suddenly growing vivid. In simple terms, the auroras can be explained as an interaction of the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field.Written December 10, 2024
- NolanK800 contributionsStunning Highlights of Northern IcelandOur guide and driver, Hogni, collected us from our hotel in Akureyri and we really got a personalized tour since there were only two of us! Unfortunately, the weather created some challenges - the roads to some of the sights on our itinerary were closed. However, our guide was fantastic at managing these changes, ensuring that we felt safe at all times and suggesting alternative options for us since we returned to Akureyri earlier that expected (the charming Christmas House was a great recommendation!). Despite the inclement weather, we saw some amazing sights that were very different from the scenery we'd experienced in the south. Some of the highlights included: Goðafoss waterfall, Dimmuborgir lava field, Hverfjall volcanic crater, Grjótagjá Cave (though the weather conditions didn't allow us to enter the cave) and Námafjall geothermal field. Hogni shared fascinating facts about each of the locations. If you're looking for an informative and professional tour filled with breathtaking scenery, I highly recommend any tour with Hogni and Star Travel!Written November 24, 2024
- 956niklasv0 contributionsExcellent day trip of the Myvatn areaWe visited Goðafoss, Dimmuborgir, Lake Myvatn with surroundings, the geothermal area, the nature baths and Grjótagjá. Our guide Siggi knows the area well and did a great job driving us to all the locations within the planned 6 hours while providing us with the history and background of the locations. Highly recommended!Written November 2, 2024
- christinecN7894ZC0 contributionsExcellent Refund Experience After Cruise Itinerary Change Due to HurricaneAs cruise passengers, we were initially hesitant about booking a local tour instead of an official cruise excursion. However, after emailing the owner, Reynir Már Sigurvinsson, he assured us "if the cruise ship can't dock, it is a full refund." I booked the "All in One" 9-hour private tour for my family. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Ernesto, the cruise altered its itinerary and was no longer stopping in Akureyri, so I had to cancel the tour. The cancellation process was seamless. After emailing Star Travel to cancel, I promptly received a full refund, following their quick response. They are a highly reliable and trustworthy company.Written October 1, 2024

- 1212reiziger0 contributionsExcellent trip with Star Travel, guide Hilmar to Myvatn area and bath.Would definitely recommend Star Travel to do your excursions with in Akureyri. Today our guide Hilmar showed me and our small group in a minibus (max 19 p) the area around Myvatn lake and Godafoss. It was excellent. Hilmar gave us plenty of time at stops (2 hours in Natire bath, 40 min Godsfoss, etc. Definitely no rush, explained everything, walked with us at every stop and as a bonus told us where to go in Akureyri. He went above and beyond. Learned so many facts about folk tales, history, culture of Iceland etc from him. It was very easy to find the minibus of Star Travel in front of the cruise boat. I would recommend to bring a plastic bag for your wet stuff after you visited the bath. Also buy a face net for the little mittens or bring a scarf and you are fine with this little creatures that do not bite and nature needs. Go on this excursion with Star Travel and you will not be disappointed. If you book on their own website they offer you to buy the entrance to the bath as an extra during the process. Would recommend to do this. They have very good cancellation policy (same as TripAdvisor).Written August 9, 2024
- smackers10 contributionsSo much to seeAugust was our tour guide and he was a genuinely nice guy who went out of his way to give us good information and to take care of our needs. We saw so many sites including waterfalls, volcanic formations, and many other things. He was easy to understand and we can’t say enough good things about him. Don’t miss this tour.Written July 4, 2024
- matthewcD2842FF0 contributionsAmazing experience! Once in a lifetime!Jon was an exceptional tour guide who took around Lake Myvatn, Godafoss, and Dimmuborgir! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the geology and history of the area. He knew all the great photo spots and went above and beyond to take us to some hidden gems in the region! Would highly recommend this tour to family and friends!Written May 14, 2024
- Curiosity147332177120 contributionsGreat Guide! Great Experience! Thank you Reynir!Had Reynir for Northern Lights out of Akureyri. We were worried about our chances as all the apps gave us less than 20% chance of seeing anything and it appeared very cloudy. Reynir showed up and said he felt good about it and liked our chances. He had done his own research. He took us out of the city where we saw more stars than in our lifetimes and there was the glow of the start of activity. After 30 mins or so, and after sharing hot chocolate and his keeping us warm in his vehicle, we began to see a spectacular show, including the rolling waves you see in videos. An absolutely amazing experience brought about Reynir’s knowledge and friendliness.Written March 11, 2024

We spent a magnificent day with Raynir visiting the highlands of Iceland. We drove along the Kjolur pass into the interior and spent about 2 hours walking around kerlingarfjoll - a geothermal area with colorful hills, sulphuric deposits, bubbling mud, boiling water, and steaming pools. Along the way we drove past a lovely waterfall carving a narrow canyon where my husband got to fly his drone. We saw a highland sheep roundup, drove between Iceland’s second and third largest glaciers and on the way back walked around Hveravellir -another geothermal area with whistling cones, more boiling pools of various colors and a tiny geyser. This spot also had a pretty soaking pool. Raynir was prompt, kind, knowledgeable, warm and funny - I highly recommend him for any of the extensive tours he does in this area.

I had an amazing time with Reynir in the Highlands. He was a fantastic guide, and both the information and the scenery were unforgettable. If you're spending time in Iceland, it's hard to get off the main paved roads and visit the interior of the country, so I'd highly recommend this as a tacked-on day to the rest of your Icelandic adventure. It felt like I was getting to see such an interesting part of the country that I never would have been able to on my own.
Also, we had some poor weather, but it was no problem - the scenery and whole experience are great in the rain, too!

This was a magical experience! The day flew by. The landscape was some of the most interesting we've seen in Iceland, and that is really saying something. The hike we did was incredible, and perfect. Reynir is an amazing guide, and has constructed a wonderful tour here. Don't miss it!

Amazing tour of the Highlands! The Kerlingarfjöll geothermal area was some of the most beautiful landscape that we have ever seen! Reynir is a very experienced and knowledgable guide who kept us entertained the entire time. Turned into a private tour since we were the only ones on the tour that day!

We have just returned home after spending two wonderful weeks in Iceland. One of the highlights was the excellent tour to the Highlands on August 28.
Reynir Már was our guide, and we were the only two on the tour that day so we got his undivided attention for the next 12 hours. He picked us up at our guesthouse right on time, and we were off on an adventure! Conversation flowed, and he explained interesting landmarks along the way. After bumping along on rough back roads we finally made it to our destination, and off we went on a one hour plus hike. In spite of the rain and wind, the scenery at Kerlingarfjöll was spectacular. It was so incredibly beautiful and his explanations so interesting that we didn't even mind the weather. After our hike, we went back to the jeep and headed to a waterfall for pictures. Our final destination was Hveravellir. The fabulous thermal pool was very relaxing after being out in the crazy weather.
We needed to bring our own drinks and snacks, and one of our stops at the beginning was at a place where we could purchase food for the trip (we were prepared, but appreciated the opportunity). Reynir was extremely courteous, patient, and a lot of fun to be with for the day. The trip was filled with breathtaking scenery, great conversation, and a fabulous guide. We would highly recommend it!

We will stay at Hvammstangi and we wish to know is it possible to pick us somewhere else, not at Akureyi? I also wish to know how much we have to walk, because I am not able to walk more than 2 hours together? We are both photographers, so we hope that will be enaugh time to take some photos. Regards!
