About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Sunkissed_Smiling0 contributionsBook with Star Travel and you won't regret itWe booked a Winter Combo with Star Travel in Akureyri so did the Northern Lights Tour, Lake Myvatn tour with nature baths, and received airport transfers as part of the package. We also booked the Forest Lagoon entrance and whale watching through their service. We cannot praise Star Travel enough, they were brilliant! The tours were incredible, Siggi was friendly, professional, patient and knowledgeable. It was obvious that he loves Akureyri and enjoyed sharing his knowledge. He went above and beyond to make everyone's trip special. Reynir was very responsive via email and phone, replying really quickly to queries and questions. Unfortunately the whale watching was cancelled and he processed a refund within minutes, no hassle at all. He drove us to and from the airport, was always on time and was kind enough to show us the main spots in town on the way to the hotel. If you're thinking about booking with Star Travel, go for it! We've travelled a lot, and used many companies... Star Travel is easily the best we've used across the world. Service was 10/10 and the experiences were amazing. We will 100% use Star Travel when we return to Iceland.Written January 11, 2025
- lindseymH3771WY0 contributionsA great day out!Absolutely exceeded our expectations. Siggy was a brilliant guide and it felt like we were with a very knowledgeable friend! We had considered hiring a car but so glad we didn't. You really have to know the roads to get the best out of this part of Iceland in winter. Amazing day out with a nice dip in the Myvatn Nature baths to finishWritten January 8, 2025
- feldy19830 contributionsPerfect snapshot of North IcelandSimply a sensational day tour. Siggy was an amazing guide who couldn’t do enough. There were 10 of us in a Mercedes mini bus and despite the limited daylight and insane snow, had a phenomenal time. All the stops - Godafoss, Dimmuborgir, Lake Myvatn, craters, geothermal baths never felt rushed and were sympathetically explained. Lending as crampons was inspired. Would definitely travel with Star againWritten December 29, 2024
- lewee1230 contributionsFantastic tour. Star Travel are great. Highly recommended!Fantastic tour. Spent plenty of time at the planned areas which were all amazing, and even stopped off for a couple of other little treats along the way. Siggi, the guide, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful at all times. He knows the area very well. The weather was testing at times and his driving was great. Arna was helpful when initially making the booking and the minibus was clean and smart. I highly recommend Star Travel. I preferred this tour over the Golden Circle tour in Reykjavik. The groups are smaller and the areas visited were far less busy.Written December 29, 2024
- NolanK800 contributionsStunning Highlights of Northern IcelandOur guide and driver, Hogni, collected us from our hotel in Akureyri and we really got a personalized tour since there were only two of us! Unfortunately, the weather created some challenges - the roads to some of the sights on our itinerary were closed. However, our guide was fantastic at managing these changes, ensuring that we felt safe at all times and suggesting alternative options for us since we returned to Akureyri earlier that expected (the charming Christmas House was a great recommendation!). Despite the inclement weather, we saw some amazing sights that were very different from the scenery we'd experienced in the south. Some of the highlights included: Goðafoss waterfall, Dimmuborgir lava field, Hverfjall volcanic crater, Grjótagjá Cave (though the weather conditions didn't allow us to enter the cave) and Námafjall geothermal field. Hogni shared fascinating facts about each of the locations. If you're looking for an informative and professional tour filled with breathtaking scenery, I highly recommend any tour with Hogni and Star Travel!Written November 24, 2024
- 956niklasv0 contributionsExcellent day trip of the Myvatn areaWe visited Goðafoss, Dimmuborgir, Lake Myvatn with surroundings, the geothermal area, the nature baths and Grjótagjá. Our guide Siggi knows the area well and did a great job driving us to all the locations within the planned 6 hours while providing us with the history and background of the locations. Highly recommended!Written November 2, 2024
- EllenR2000 contributionsGorgeous area explored with a great guideFabulous day seeing stunning sites. Highly recommend. So much to see, such variety and felt we saw it all. Ciggy, our guide, was very knowledgeable and shared great information of the area and Iceland in general.Written August 26, 2024
- Companion7543900 contributionsWhat a great short tour for a cruise excursionWhat a great short tour for a cruise excursion. Hilli(sic) was a great guide and safe driver. We enjoyed our time during this cruise excursion.Written August 21, 2024
- 1212reiziger0 contributionsExcellent trip with Star Travel, guide Hilmar to Myvatn area and bath.Would definitely recommend Star Travel to do your excursions with in Akureyri. Today our guide Hilmar showed me and our small group in a minibus (max 19 p) the area around Myvatn lake and Godafoss. It was excellent. Hilmar gave us plenty of time at stops (2 hours in Natire bath, 40 min Godsfoss, etc. Definitely no rush, explained everything, walked with us at every stop and as a bonus told us where to go in Akureyri. He went above and beyond. Learned so many facts about folk tales, history, culture of Iceland etc from him. It was very easy to find the minibus of Star Travel in front of the cruise boat. I would recommend to bring a plastic bag for your wet stuff after you visited the bath. Also buy a face net for the little mittens or bring a scarf and you are fine with this little creatures that do not bite and nature needs. Go on this excursion with Star Travel and you will not be disappointed. If you book on their own website they offer you to buy the entrance to the bath as an extra during the process. Would recommend to do this. They have very good cancellation policy (same as TripAdvisor).Written August 9, 2024
- smackers10 contributionsSo much to seeAugust was our tour guide and he was a genuinely nice guy who went out of his way to give us good information and to take care of our needs. We saw so many sites including waterfalls, volcanic formations, and many other things. He was easy to understand and we can’t say enough good things about him. Don’t miss this tour.Written July 4, 2024
- matthewcD2842FF0 contributionsAmazing experience! Once in a lifetime!Jon was an exceptional tour guide who took around Lake Myvatn, Godafoss, and Dimmuborgir! He was incredibly knowledgeable about the geology and history of the area. He knew all the great photo spots and went above and beyond to take us to some hidden gems in the region! Would highly recommend this tour to family and friends!Written May 14, 2024
- Curiosity147332177120 contributionsGreat Guide! Great Experience! Thank you Reynir!Had Reynir for Northern Lights out of Akureyri. We were worried about our chances as all the apps gave us less than 20% chance of seeing anything and it appeared very cloudy. Reynir showed up and said he felt good about it and liked our chances. He had done his own research. He took us out of the city where we saw more stars than in our lifetimes and there was the glow of the start of activity. After 30 mins or so, and after sharing hot chocolate and his keeping us warm in his vehicle, we began to see a spectacular show, including the rolling waves you see in videos. An absolutely amazing experience brought about Reynir’s knowledge and friendliness.Written March 11, 2024
- 81ethane0 contributionsA Lovely TourWent on two separate tours with Reynir. First we did the Northern Lights tour, which Reynir was very accommodating and experienced on. We used prediction apps that said we had less than 20% chance to see the lights and we’re getting discouraged until Reynir showed up boasting a 90% certainty that we would see them. I thought he was just talking big because he’s a tour guide. We ended up seeing the most amazing and powerful lights. The next day, Reynir took us on the tour of Godafoss, Dettifoss, Mud Fields, Myvatn, and Hot Spring. Throughout the entire trip, Reynir was a delight. He was friendly, funny, and chatty, but not in an obnoxious way by any means. Showed a genuine love for the area and the job and moved at our pace. I wish we could bring him around with us everywhere. Must do.Written March 11, 2024
- BK6530 contributionsSO worth it!An absolutely charming excursion with a delightful hostess who was from Poland. We saw well known important sites as well as small off-the-beaten path locations. Everything felt fresh and unhurried although we were picked up and returned exactly on time. Highly recommend it!Written February 24, 2024
- JenC000 contributionsNice way to see the Lake Myvatn areaThis tour covered a nice variety of natural attractions. The guide allowed the group time to walk around the sites and take photos. A small amount of interesting commentary was given. We stopped at a small farm restaurant for a late lunch. Although I think it was a good choice to showcase Icelandic food and locally sourced ingredients, I would not have chosen this tour had I known that we were stopping here.Written January 13, 2024

As cruise passengers, we were initially hesitant about booking a local tour instead of an official cruise excursion. However, after emailing the owner, Reynir Már Sigurvinsson, he assured us "if the cruise ship can't dock, it is a full refund."
I booked the "All in One" 9-hour private tour for my family. Unfortunately, due to Hurricane Ernesto, the cruise altered its itinerary and was no longer stopping in Akureyri, so I had to cancel the tour.
The cancellation process was seamless. After emailing Star Travel to cancel, I promptly received a full refund, following their quick response. They are a highly reliable and trustworthy company.

Aurora Borealis in Iceland, Land of the Sagas. The Northern Lights, also called Aurora Borealis, and Norðurljós in Icelandic, are one of the most spectacular shows on this earth and can frequently be seen in Iceland from September through March on clear and crisp nights. The Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis, appear in a clear night sky as swirling rivers of greenish-blue light. They move and dance unpredictably; sometimes barely perceptible, then suddenly growing vivid. In simple terms, the auroras can be explained as an interaction of the solar wind and the Earth's magnetic field.

Lovely private tour with Star Travel that we had booked with them for when our cruise stopped at Akureyri. Our tour included visiting Godafoss, the Myvatn Nature Baths and Dettifoss (which was especially amazing).
Our guide Guðrún was terrific and went out of her way to show us a few sites that she thought we would be interested in. She even gave us a great recommendation for a local restaurant for dinner. Highly recommend!

Me and my wife are on honeymoon in Iceland from India. We did a lot of tours in the same day with reynir and he is so helpful and kind. He explained everything, answered all our questions patiently and most of all- guided us about things even outside the tours.
His English is very good, and he is passionate about what he does. He took some great pictures of us as well!
We wish his company all the best!
100% choose this company for a nice and convenient tour around Iceland!

Absolutely fantastic 10 hours private tour from Akureyri with Reynir our driver-guide. He was attentive and informative, organised a superb sightseeing tour to visit numerous sites in northern Iceland, such as Godafoss, Myvatn lake, lava fields, Viti crater lake, Dettifoss, Hafragilsfoss, Husavik. We also had many stops to visit interesting attractions with plenty of photo taking of the beautiful landscape features and scenery. Lots of happy memories.

We were picked up from the cruise terminal for a day of fun in a very nice , comfortable 4x4. Brynjar let use plan our day and at our pace. He had excellent suggestions, and was so flexible. Plus, we was like having your own personal comedian in the car. We got to see so much more than anybody on the cruise, plus it was a lot less expensive. There is so much to see around Akureyri, and we got great information about what we were touring. This was one of our best days in iceland. Brian

We (four adult women) booked a private tour from Akureyri with Star Travel after exploring the options available. It was the best daytime experience of the trip! Reynir picked us up on time, made sure we were comfortable, talked openly but not too much, and followed our lead with regard to how much time to spend places. We saw SO MANY THINGS in a single day - it was amazing. While there were other groups some places, most places we went we were among few others, or in some cases, had the sights to ourselves! I particularly wanted to see Dettifoss, and Reynir let me know the road conditions might hinder us. Despite the warning, we were able to get there - with just a slightly longer hike - and saw the amazing waterfall. Being there, just the five of us, was an awesome experience, in every sense of the word. After that hike (some of it in knee-deep snow!) we were able to wind down a bit at the Nature Baths, all without feeling rushed. Reynir is a fantastic guide, a fantastic ambassador for Iceland and Akureyri, and a fantastic person to spend a day with. This was my first trip to Iceland, but I'll definitely go back, and would even schedule around being able to travel with Reynir again. If you're looking for a travel company in Northern Iceland, look no further - this is the group to go with.

We book a private tour with Reynir for the 4 of us - active seniors - as opposed to a cruise ship excursion. It was an awesome day - tailored to our preferences and full of fun, interesting and stunning places and sights. Iceland is a country not to miss and Reynir is terrific! We highly recommend spending your time in port with him :)

Spent the day with Reynir in his clean, comfortable 4x4. He literally put us in the drivers seat by personalizing the itinerary to suit our wishes. He picked us up from our hotel in Dimmuborgir and started with a hike up the crater, difficult but breathtaking, no pun intended. We'll worth the effort, the view from the top and into the crater was awesome! He kicked the 4x4 into high hear and then took us for a fun, bumpy and exciting ride to view 3 magnificent waterfalls, including Dettifoss. Again, more hiking on snow covered trails, but again so worth the effort. Stopped to visit a dairy farm and met the cows, said hello to horses along the road and went searching for trolls in the magnificent lava fields around Lake Myvtan. Short stop at small water caves en route, plenty of bathroom breaks and photo opps. Shared stories about families and culture with lots of laughs and silliness. An absolutely perfect day, exactly what we we'd hoped for when we booked with Reynir, the owner of Star Travel, and our gracious guide for the day!

We are traveling to Akureyi via Celebrity Cruiseline arriving at 8:00 am on Tuesday June 9th and our ship departs at 5. We are five adults, a three year old and two babies (18 months and 14 months). I see you max is 7 but we are five adults and three children. Are you able to offer this trip and itinerary but I would suggest we make it back to the ship by 4:00 so as not to worry. Can you accommodate the children in this car and still see all of this? Kathie
