Unforgettable!
Apr 2021
It was an experience of a lifetime! My cheerful tour guide, Anthony, was on time as we started at 10 PM from Rovaniemi. We drove to a base camp about 55 km from the Rovaniemi city center, and then climbed a hill called Kätkävaara with another assistant Ella.

The night was clear and moonless, so conditions for aurora-watching were great. Sure enough, a long pale green arc right across the star-filled sky could be seen, though it remained like this for a very long time without changing. Anthony explained in detail how the aurora is formed, and patiently answered all my questions :) Despite the cold and lack of action, he waited, and finally our patience were rewarded as we were able to see a quite bright display of flickering as 2 separate arcs seemed to form. A moment to remember! We then went inside a small 'cabin' on the hill, and had sausages and hot chocolate sitting around a fire Anthony and Ella lit earlier.

Later I learnt I was quite lucky, as the aurora prediction for that night was quite bleak!

Aurora viewing needs luck, but that does not change the service provided by Anthony of Lapland Welcome, which was simply fantastic. Such warm behavior made withstanding the cold while waiting for the aurora display not only tolerable, but also enjoyable! The photography was Anthony was also brilliant!!

Thank you, Lapland Welcome!

Magical Night
Mar 2021
We (2 adults) had an excellent experience with this company! The seasoned tour guide provided us with snow boots and flashlights and, if we hadn't already been wearing warm winter clothes, he could have also helped us out in that department.

Once the tour proper started, the guide entertained us with funny anecdotes as well as fascinating scientific explanations of the Northern Lights. The guide never lost hope (it first seemed like we wouldn't get much of a display) and expertly showed each place best suited for spotting the elusive lights.

We easily reached our final destination on top of the hill and were blown away by the Auroras that painted the starry night and lasted for a long time. From the detailed photographing instructions to the nice pictures and the warms food and drinks, this trip was an all around pleasant experience. On our way back to Rovaniemi we even spotted two fluffy mountain hares!

Nice to know: If you don't have the necessary photographing equipment, that's not an issue. The tour guide will take professional grade pictures of the Northern lights for free while you sit back and relax as mother nature shows you her most beautiful side.

Best tour ever!!
Feb 2020 • Family
We (2 adults and 3 children) had a wonderful time.
Our Northern Lights guide, She was excellent and knew exactly where to take us for the trip. We had so much fun.
It was really great time!!
I would highly recommend this tour company to everyone.
Thank you so much.

Best Regards

Do not go with this company
It's pretty simple the worst tour, the most unorganised thing we have ever done and having visited over 50 countries and countless tours to remember I have never ever written a bad review until NOW.
I love how the public relations manager seems to rebuke everyone's comments how about take responsibility for your actions no one enjoyed people complained all night.

Thank you for your feedback. In the end of December the group sizes explode on our Northern Lights tours because we are very famous old operator on Northern Lights tours and end of December is peak season, lots of people in town. Many people come after friends recommendations. Even on those high evenings we are able to offer winter gear of professional quality, return transfers from main hotels, experienced guides, photographing and barbeque snacks. We also offer you a chance to experience old shamanistic tradition. We have got the best site near Rovaniemi and good facilities like bathrooms for our guests. Our mountain location with the best micro climate offers you the best chance for seeing the lights. We do advice you for photographing by your own camera and we send you pictures from the tour is you request them by email afterwards and if we have some good ones. People are always very happy after seeing lights. If the lights don't come it is bigger or smaller disappointment individually. We are not able to force Mother Nature but we offer you the best chance to see the lights and experience wilderness in impressive nature. We recommend joining as soon as possible and repeating the tour until you see the lights. Welcome!

Bad Experience. Disappointing !
Dec 2019
Joined Auroras – Northern Lights Trip by Car and on Foot (photographing tour) back in Dec 2019. As mentioned on the website it was by car but turn out to be a big tour bus for around approximately 50 pax! The tour was even overbooked as some of the people did not have a space to sit in the bus. the tour started by heading over to their office at Rovaniemi city center for a change in clothes. It was so chaotic as it was such a big group. No clear instruction was provided. Wasted lots of time too.
When we reached the base camp, we wasted time again by unloading our existing stuff down from the bus. Everyone was rushing to the toilet and there was only one cubical.
It was mentioned on the website that it is a “photography tour” and "We take pictures on the tour and then upload them on our blog. However, if you have a camera and/or a tripod, do not hesitate to bring them! Our guides can help you with the settings."
Firstly, do not expect the guide to take picture of you together with the northern light. The whole session the guide just kept on shooting the northern light. If we want pictures of just the northern light, there are plenty online.
Secondly, after you set up your tripod and placed if it placed slightly in front of the guide's camera view. The guide will tell you off. Shouldn't it be a photographing session whereby we should be the one shooting/ learning how to capture the northern light with our own camera. It turns out to be like we are paying to accompany the guide to chase the northern light and the guide hogged the best angle.
Been to so many tours, this tour is totally disappointing. Badly organized and unprofessional guide. Highly do not recommend!

Absolutely appalling!!! Don’t bother
Dec 2019 • Couples
We were sold the Northern Lights Photography Tour for New Years Eve. From the outset it was an absolute debacle. We arrived at the office to get the bus and it was chaotic. No one knew what was happening. We were given out to the location, and dropped, left with no instructions was the bus driver went inside to get himself a hot chocolate. There was no guide insight and after talking to a number of waitresses, we discovered that we could walk up the top of the hill to where everyone was. Blindly we walked up there along a duck off with no idea really where we were going. We arrived at the top which was apparently the northern lights tour that we were supposed to be on. We were sold the idea of teepees with food, fortune-telling, sledding and a guide. None of this was actually the case when we arrived at the top. There was over 200 people there and clearly they had oversold this tour. It was disorganised, there was no plan, and they certainly under-catered. There were two teepees which catered for a maximum of 50 people total. There was barely any food, all of which were supermarket bought packet food, and barely even any hot water to make a cup of tea.

By the end of the night, we had received no food, no drink whatsoever and when we walked down to get back on the bus, there was no bus for us as they had even underestimated numbers for the bus. We were left to sit around and wait for over 45 minutes with no update of what was happening, until we were finally told that our bus driver was up the hill collecting people who haven’t yet come down. It was freezing cold and we were still waiting for people who were drinking inside.

Overall it was absolutely disgusting. I wish we never bothered as the experience was actually really terrible. Do yourself a favour and find yourself one of the smaller companies who actually care for their guests. We regret that we didn’t do the same, but we hope that this review gives you that opportunity. Either way, save your money time and effort and don’t book with this company.

Thank you for your feedback about our New Year Auroras tour. In addition to normal Auroras - Northern Lights tour we had great fireworks and sparkling wine offered. Pictures of Northern Lights were shot and delivered to all participants who wanted to see them. You can still reuquest them if you were there, by email. We didn't run out of barbeque food or drinks, maybe just temporarily but not totally. We also offered shaman program in the 3rd teepee down by the river. New Year's Eve is very popular day here, the peak day in a year. People were allowed to walk around and visit different service points like warm indoor hall, washing rooms, shaman teepee, snow igloos, barbeque teepees, sparkling wine delivery, photographing spot and fireworks at midnight. I am sorry if you have felt lost there. In our mind all went like planned, nothing went wrong. It was just many people there but is a very spacy area. And we are sorry that it was hard to get the last people into the buses. We couldn't leave people there. We did have transfer planned for everyone. Many people shouted "Bravo" for the long lasting colourfull fireworks. But Mother Nature didn't show us the best Northern Lights but something at least in the pictures. It is out of our control. Happy New Year!

Worst end year
agency did not manage so many people/partecipants: 3 buses of people who could not even heat up inside the treadmill we did not even manage to eat a sausage . Any confortabile Seats around Fire possibile due to manu people. Desperate we went down the hill and we celebrated loneliness with five other strangers left in the chalet down hill . In addition , despite the guide had clearly said to leave for 12:30 , we were an hour waiting for people scattered on the hill and then left at 1:30 after a bad new end year!

We offered very warm adventure gear including arctic overalls, boots, socks, gloves and hats for all of our guests. In written plans with map delivered to every family we tried to return at 00.30, just after the fireworks, but some people didn't want to hurry and we had to wait them a little. We are very sorry about that.

Quite upset
Dec 2019 • Friends
Lapland Welcome Tour guide - Janette - for this Northern Lights Photography Tour- was not organized and professional at all. She asked us to be at office at 8 pm to wear warm clothes. After we were in bus, picked up few guests at some hotels and sent them back to office to change clothes. Wasting time!

Again, at base camp, we waited some guests who haven’t changed clothes and the guide took them to go and change. Wasting time again for us.

She earlier said that she would explain at the base camp but she didn’t due to limited time. So She just led the group at the top and she was in rush and therefore she did not care others who left behind at the middle of darkness. We had to use our phone lights to find our way up!

Despite of advertisements, only few snacks arrived at last minute, just before the new year count down. Even then, food and drinks were not sufficient enough to provide such a big group and people were too crowded to get food in one tent.

We were quite upset and moved to next small tent where we encountered that fire was dying soon. One gentleman went out to get this guide but she just looked and said “one second” and she disappeared. She did not arrange even enough firewood’s for us! Later one guy brought some woods to make fire and soon started new year fire works. No luck to see northern lights!

The guide earlier told us to meet on bus at 12:30 sharp to return to city. But She did not show up till 1:20 am. We felt hungry, sleepy and tired! We could manage to leave at 1:55 am as she told us later that she had to wait some guests who were late from their snowmobile rides. Third time- she wasted our time!
Those people got their own guides and even lost, at least she should come to bus since 12:20 and explain us the reason. Not attentive and caring to guests!

All in all, She totally spoiled our new year eve mood!

Thank you for this feedback. i see that this is actually our New Year Celebration with Finnish Traditions and Fireworks. We have the best site for following the lights and capacity to receive even 200 guests like that evening. According to general feedback people really liked especially the food and fireworks but also photographing part was nice. Anthony our senior guide ran the shaman program which is always very liked as well. In such numbers of guests what we receive on new Year's Eve which is the peak evening in a year it is impossible to avoid queue sometimes but in general we are happy how our large team worked together. And the site itself is really impressive and lights easy to follow on the mountain range.
