- bsaswata0 contributionsFrozen Moments: An Unforgettable Ice Fishing Adventure in LaplandThe ice fishing trip with **Lapland Welcome** in Rovaniemi was absolutely incredible! 🎣❄️ From the warm welcome to the expert guidance, everything was perfectly organized. Drilling through the ice on a stunning frozen lake surrounded by snowy landscapes was both thrilling and peaceful. 🌨️✨ The guide’s knowledge and enthusiasm made the experience fun and engaging, even for beginners. A highlight was gathering around a fire for a cozy barbecue with tasty local snacks—such a memorable touch! 🔥🍴 The provided thermal gear kept us warm, and the three-hour duration was just right. Whether you catch a fish or not (we were lucky to have 5 catches and then released them ofc!), this adventure is about immersing yourself in Lapland’s magical winter wonderland. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Rovaniemi! 🌟 SourcesWritten January 12, 2025
- 964ainhoag0 contributionsA ruined dreamFirst of all, I have to say that the drivers and guides were excellent and tried to do their best despite the chaotic boss, his bad manners, disorganization and lack of confidence in his workers ruined our experience, specially the last day, when due to the boss’ lack of organization and vindicative behavior made us nearly miss our fight. I will not recommend this company to anyoneWritten January 6, 2025

- christopherkS9883SA0 contributionscancelled without notificationWe arrived at the scheduled time in front of the Siula building. After 15min of waiting, noone else showed up. We called the organizers and at first they appeared confused regarding what tours they offer. 5min waiting on the phone later, they told us that the trip had been cancelled. We did not receive any notifications regarding the cancellation beforehand. The tour was showing as "confirmed" in Tripadvisor at the time. Needless to say, this wasted a lot of time driving around. If we had gotten a notification, we would have been able to plan something else on the day. This way, pretty much everything else had either been sold out or we were too late. We received a full refund.Written January 4, 2025
- Hakim8000 contributionsOverall greatFirst off we had a great overall experience and it lasted longer than expected. Everything was great EXCEPT for one thing, the owner, an older man was extremely rude and disrespectful to everyone from the staff to the customers. He was belittling his own staff in front of us when we were being given our snow boots and snow suits saying they didn’t know what they were doing and giving the wrong sizes(they gave us correct sizes and were great). Then told one customer taker her suit off it’s too small because she’s too fat. Nobody could believe what we heard and everyone was left in shock and tried to comfort the lady when the owner walked away. After leaving the office to go to an hour away to where the snowmobiles were located everything was great. The driver was a young lady and she was the nicest person and told us all about Finland and the culture and landscape along the drive. During the snowmobile ride we were able to make multiple stops along the path for pictures and snowball fights. The guide was great and the snowmobile experience couldn’t have been better. It would of been a 5 star review if it weren’t for the extremely rude and disrespectful owner we experienced in the office.Written December 25, 2024

- kristQ9856MN0 contributionsDisorganized companyVery disorganized. Nasty personnel except for the guides were very sweet and kind but they didn't really have much energy or personality because they're so overworked and working in such a disorganized system. The tour was fantastic and the location of the base with access to toilets and fire pit and food was amazing and great fun. - karengH672KY0 contributionsMemorable fishing experienceIt was so much fun, memorable tour and worth every penny. Highly recommend! As beginners to fishing our guide (Utsav) was very accommodating and patient in explaining the steps in fishing. We were also provided with the appropriate clothing and gears. The trail going to the fishing site although tricky was memorable including our dinner on the island. There were some mosquitoes but the insect repellent was helpful. Even if we weren’t able to caught a fish, we still get to enjoy the activity, the quiet and beautiful scenery.Written August 5, 2024

We booked the tour in the morning, full of anticipation. Unfortunately, we were a bit pressed for time, so we didn't use the pick-up service and showed up at the office at the agreed time in the evening. At first it seemed as if they didn't know what to do with us, and after I was asked for my name a second time, we were told to sit down and wait... We did that, for a full 30 minutes and nobody felt responsible for us... then we finally got our thermal suits and got into the van that was supposed to take us to the Northern Lights. We already got a queasy feeling when we drove off with the high beams on, because the low beams didn't work. When the engine control light, cooling system and countless other lights came on, the anticipation evaporated...
You were only worried about whether you would even arrive alive. In total we drove for about 50 minutes (including a short stop at a parking lot where we saw the only northern lights) until we arrived at a hotel. From there we walked about 200m to an open space at the edge of the forest where the hut was where we ate (freshly grilled food, including vegetarian options, hot drinks like tea and coffee). Unfortunately there were no northern lights visible there, but that's not the organizer's fault. We didn't go up the mountain that was advertised, as written in other reviews, because our group (about 15 people) was too big and there were too many children, according to our driver. Since we had booked the tour in German, we were very disappointed that only one guide spoke a little German, but that wasn't enough for more detailed explanations. Overall the tour was quite nice, but our expectations were far from fulfilled due to the poor organization, the language barrier (unfortunately my companion couldn't speak any English) and the constant fear of breaking down with the van.

Didn't get to see the Northern lights as there was low probability on the day.
But the tour itself was average. They took us to the location (1 hour away from Rovaniemi) and we climbed up a mountain for 15 min (heads up for anyone who can't do that). Then we waited. They had made a bonfire where they kept packaged sausages, kebabs and marshmellos to roast over the fire and eat. I had fun with my friends as we were happy to see such snow as we've never seen snow before. But people who are wanting to see the northern lights might find it a bit boring.
The tour organizers - Emily and Ali were very friendly and enthusiastic. They were very keen to help out and get to know people. Liked talking to them.
The tour guide (didn't catch her name - an international research student I think) was knowledgeable but not trained in hospitality. She rolled her eyes at slightest disorganization showed by Emily and Ali and kept shouting out to guests 'don't come within my camera zone.. I've come to photograph the lights and not YOU' even when the group was adhering to all instructions.
Overall, it was an okayish experience. It could have been more interactive and fun (so many people of all nationalities) while we waited but it was mostly just sitting around.

Thank you for this feedback. Emilia is a wonderful impressive young guide who really knows photographing. Welcome! The main guide was Kimberley an actress who is a master in running entertainment :)

The guide was excellent and very good but they appear to go to the same place on this tour as that is where they have their tepee unlike other tours where we were chasing the NL. so if the NL aren't visible from that location then that's it for the night. As the guide was on his own he had to spend the time lighting the fire and preparing the food while we were outside trying to see if there was any activity so not ideal. I don't blame the guide in any way as he was very nice and helpful. I think the company are happy to take your money even if there is no chance of seeing the NL.

We have 5 check points on our northern lights tour of which the 3rd one is the best site in Rovaniemi area (only one on the mountain) for following the northern lights. Seeing northern lights is up to luck but this tour is the best chance to see the lights in Rovaniemi, and in very impressive surroundings far from city lights.

What an adventure. This tourist trap is all talk but no results. People have seen more Northern light in the santa clause village that day than your poorly situated location. Winning an award 4 years ago doesnt mean anything today… your standards you are claiming to be the best didn’t show itself on our journey.
These people claim to be professionals who also claims that they would explain anything about the stars and other topics that are related to the northern lights. However, all we got is a little explanation of reindeers and ear cut markings and how happy the Finnish people are in this country. What a complete joke this organisation. We understand that the Aurora is a natural phenomenon but we were suppose to go hunting for it and move up North? We went more south straying away from the light, going to a place that is owned by the company. How is this “chasing” and “hunting” the light? Complete scam I would say. Also, the guide we got assigned to was also a mute and stayed complete silent about the trip. He didn’t state what the plan was and suddenly we were in the middle of nowhere telling us to get out. We had the impressing that he was about to do something to us. No actual storytelling or explanation. We had to ask what the actual plan was.
In the end, we wasted 100 euros no refund for some cheap chicken nuggets - hotdogs, blue berry syrop juice and 5 hours of our time. These so called professionals should atleast have some forecast and add a partial refund or anything. We also got a “professional” photoshoot with no aurora in the back, making it seem like this is some sort of consolation price. So sad.

I wish I had read all the reviews before making this booking. All the bad reviews are true . They are not worth it . They will say it’s a small tour but in actual they will stuff a lot of people on 2 buses and take you a lane owned by company . Which is bit further away from North hence reduced the chance of seeing lights . . Made no effort whatsoever to chase the lights or to time it properly . There were brilliant lights around that time and all other tours saw them and we were unlucky and got stuck with them .

I decide to book this excursion highly recommended by Lonely Planet. We meet at the meeting place (their headquarters) to equip ourselves and set off on the "search for the Northern Lights". Loaded into a 9-seater van, a journey of about 45 minutes awaits us with 2 short stops in between to look at the sky for a few seconds and leave again disconsolate but still full of energy. We reach the refuge, walk on foot for a few minutes and camp in a tent with a fire lit. Nothing at all about the Northern Lights. In the camp they offer us frankfurters, chicken nuggets and grilled kebabs to eat; cranberry juice to drink. After dinner we settle outside and the guide starts taking photos of each of us with the Northern Lights created with the flash of his iPhone in the background. Annoyed by the unproductive evening, we decide to go home but there is no room in the van for everyone and we have to wait for a taxi to come and pick up 2 people who would otherwise be on foot.
Alas, there are a few things to review.

Booked last minute and was one of the few tours still available. Got confirmation to meet at 19:20 for an 20:00 start, which seemed a little early. We didn’t actually go outside to the coach until 20:20, we were left waiting outside the coach with no tour leader. I went inside and the staff were just as confused. Another 20 minutes of waiting, there were too many people to fit on the coach (which was already a red flag, as the huge coach felt very impersonal), so some people had to be taken by taxi. At the destination we all had to cram into two tiny huts, where again waited without direction. Someone came in after an hour and asked if we had been served our ‘traditional BBQ’, we hadn’t, but then got told there weren’t enough sausages for everyone. I managed to get one, along with a dry bun, and that was it. No lights, but they still offered to take photos of us in the night sky, but the tour guide could work the camera as it had ‘frozen’ and all the photos were blurry… surely these are common weather conditions? So our northern lights photography tour with BBQ didn’t have any photography, nor a real BBQ. Avoid this tour company.

Thank you for the review. We have there warm bathrooms and several teepees for barbeque. The location is perfect and the best in Rovaniemi area. These peak season days can be crowded as so many people weant to see the lights and often they are visible only on our site.

Joined Auroras – Northern Lights Trip by Car and on Foot (photographing tour) back in Dec 2019. As mentioned on the website it was by car but turn out to be a big tour bus for around approximately 50 pax! The tour was even overbooked as some of the people did not have a space to sit in the bus. the tour started by heading over to their office at Rovaniemi city center for a change in clothes. It was so chaotic as it was such a big group. No clear instruction was provided. Wasted lots of time too.
When we reached the base camp, we wasted time again by unloading our existing stuff down from the bus. Everyone was rushing to the toilet and there was only one cubical.
It was mentioned on the website that it is a “photography tour” and "We take pictures on the tour and then upload them on our blog. However, if you have a camera and/or a tripod, do not hesitate to bring them! Our guides can help you with the settings."
Firstly, do not expect the guide to take picture of you together with the northern light. The whole session the guide just kept on shooting the northern light. If we want pictures of just the northern light, there are plenty online.
Secondly, after you set up your tripod and placed if it placed slightly in front of the guide's camera view. The guide will tell you off. Shouldn't it be a photographing session whereby we should be the one shooting/ learning how to capture the northern light with our own camera. It turns out to be like we are paying to accompany the guide to chase the northern light and the guide hogged the best angle.
Been to so many tours, this tour is totally disappointing. Badly organized and unprofessional guide. Highly do not recommend!

We (2 adults) had an excellent experience with this company! The seasoned tour guide provided us with snow boots and flashlights and, if we hadn't already been wearing warm winter clothes, he could have also helped us out in that department.
Once the tour proper started, the guide entertained us with funny anecdotes as well as fascinating scientific explanations of the Northern Lights. The guide never lost hope (it first seemed like we wouldn't get much of a display) and expertly showed each place best suited for spotting the elusive lights.
We easily reached our final destination on top of the hill and were blown away by the Auroras that painted the starry night and lasted for a long time. From the detailed photographing instructions to the nice pictures and the warms food and drinks, this trip was an all around pleasant experience. On our way back to Rovaniemi we even spotted two fluffy mountain hares!
Nice to know: If you don't have the necessary photographing equipment, that's not an issue. The tour guide will take professional grade pictures of the Northern lights for free while you sit back and relax as mother nature shows you her most beautiful side.

It was an experience of a lifetime! My cheerful tour guide, Anthony, was on time as we started at 10 PM from Rovaniemi. We drove to a base camp about 55 km from the Rovaniemi city center, and then climbed a hill called Kätkävaara with another assistant Ella.
The night was clear and moonless, so conditions for aurora-watching were great. Sure enough, a long pale green arc right across the star-filled sky could be seen, though it remained like this for a very long time without changing. Anthony explained in detail how the aurora is formed, and patiently answered all my questions :) Despite the cold and lack of action, he waited, and finally our patience were rewarded as we were able to see a quite bright display of flickering as 2 separate arcs seemed to form. A moment to remember! We then went inside a small 'cabin' on the hill, and had sausages and hot chocolate sitting around a fire Anthony and Ella lit earlier.
Later I learnt I was quite lucky, as the aurora prediction for that night was quite bleak!
Aurora viewing needs luck, but that does not change the service provided by Anthony of Lapland Welcome, which was simply fantastic. Such warm behavior made withstanding the cold while waiting for the aurora display not only tolerable, but also enjoyable! The photography was Anthony was also brilliant!!
Thank you, Lapland Welcome!
