- LongIslandtravelerJR0 contributionsFair tour. Nothing very interesting for the hours it takes. We’ve been on other Viking tours and found this one average at best. It’s a very long day for nothing spectacular. I don’t recommend itWritten September 1, 2024
- Go637337094530 contributionsGreat half day tour with wonderful guideTour was great, very informative and learned a lot about the area from the tour guide. Olof was amazing and made the trip wonderful!Written August 30, 2024
- Brittany G0 contributionsExcellent tourMadeleine and Gabriel were great! I loved the history and personal connections both made throughout the tour. Gabriel l, our tour guide,, was great with making the tour funny and not just listing dates and names- but rather focused on the stories and was truly engaging! I also really appreciated that he organized the tour conversations- he was never pulled off topic by questions, comments since he had made space for those points and let the group know when he would provide time for those. This was especially important because sometimes with group tours questions, comments, etc. at inopportune times can take time away from key information and stops. Gabriel always asked us if we had any questions before we left a location or told us when we would have time. Amazing guide. Madeleine, our driver, was on time and made sure we were comfortable with check in on our experience, umbrella, bathroom, food, etc. She gave a great personal connection to our tour and qasajoy to spend all day with. She was so engaging and was patient with my countless noticings and wonderings. Highly recommend this tour. Great day to get out of the city and tour the countryside while learning history.Written August 23, 2024
- annafromlondon0 contributionsA must for lovers of Scandinavian history.I was really looking forward to this tour, as I'm rather fascinated by Viking history; the day certainly did not disappoint! Our guide, Urban. is an absolute mine of information . The minibus drive was comfortable, with handy headsets provided to aid listening. I enjoyed everything about the trip and it was lovely to walk through some countryside as we looked at runestones. The fika at a farmhouse was a nice touch too. We had a welcome break in the very pretty town of Sigtuna; such a pretty location. Uppsala is beautiful, especially its impressive cathedral. This day trip is is a must for history lovers and was both relaxing and stimulating.Written August 15, 2024

- S3566RFcharlesm0 contributionsAland Islands tour courtesy of SHT was a hitSweden History Tours (SHT) offers a one day tour to the Aland Islands, which are the archipelago separating the Guld of Bothnia from the Baltic Sea. Politically, the Alands are a semi-autonomous Swedish speaking entity (their own stamps and flag) that is otherwise part of Finland. It takes about three hours to get there from Stockholm (car transfer and a ferry) and to get back, leaving about five hours on the islands if one is doing a day trip. The ferry is filled with Swedes buying tax-discounted beer (and other alcohol) and otherwise enjoying a cruise and a meal. One obviously will not see all of the attractions of the Alands in five hours, but SHT is flexible. Russia ruled Finland from 1809 to 1917, and I asked for an emphasis on the Russian occupation, especially in connection with the huge fortress Russia erected that was destroyed by the French Army and British fleet during the Crimean War. The tour was great: picked up at our hotel, delivered to the ferry, met by a wonderful local guide, saw the old Russian Post Office and Customs House, then the ruins of the fort and the very informative museum associated therewith, and we still had time for a castle (where a deposed king was exiled pre-occupation) and a medieval church. First rate way to spend a day out of Stockholm. And it helps you understand why Finland and Sweden are interested in NATO. A+ to SHT.Written August 6, 2024
- R5457FCsandys0 contributionsAn enjoyable and enlightening tourThis was a truly enjoyable way to see the historic sites and verdant countryside around Stockholm. The company had subcontracted to Urban Tours, and the owner/guide was really named Urban. He was pleasant and knowledgeable. The only drawback was that the "whisper" listening devices didn't work, so only the front couple of participants could catch some of the tidbits he shared. There were seven of us in the van, all congenial and curious. In addition to the rune stones and the "ting" gathering spot, we toured medieval churches and the lovely university and cathedral town of Uppsala. The traditional fikka (coffee and cake) a a farmhouse was congenial and tasty. We made our lunch stop at Sigtuna, a bit touristy but pleasantly so. The meal wasn't included in the tour price, but at our guide's suggestion, we had a tasty and reasonable lunch at the Valvet Bistro and Cafe. Altogether, an enjoyable and enriching day.Written August 4, 2024
- jodir80 contributionsHighly RecommendedFabulous tour, really enjoyed the day. Gabriel was an excellent guide, very informative and helpful, I learned a lot about Swedish history and the vikings. Our driver, Christian, was great fun, very friendly and accommodating. I was travelling with my mother and teenage son, and both Christian and Gabriel made sure that everyone was happy at all times, which allowed me to relax and enjoy the day. We had an amazing lunch at the restaurant recommended by our guide, and also enjoyed fika in the afternoon. Transport was very comfortable, with great air conditioning. Thanks for a wonderful day, will definitely do another tour next time I get back to Sweden.Written August 4, 2024

- OttawaJRtraveller0 contributionsViking awesomenessPartook in the “Viking History, Fika & Countryside 9h Tour to Sigtuna & Uppsala” and had an incredible time. We had a great group of 9 in our comfy air-conditioned mini-bus and our tour guide Gustav ensured we were well taken care of. Learned so much of local Viking history, as we visited rune stones dotted along the country side. Gustav shared some insightful, historical stories, sprinkled with humour—never boring, always fascinating. We also visited Scandinavia’s largest Cathedral in Uppsala—the sheer size was breathtaking. And we finally enjoyed Fika in a quaint café to top off the day, as our friendly driver Stefan brought us safely home by 7 p.m. Thank you Gustav and Stefan for an unforgettable day and I whole heartedly recommend this tour, both for Viking and non-Viking fans alike.Written July 29, 2024
- 663danaf0 contributionsDefinitely do this tourGabriel was a wonderful guide. Very interesting and I feel we learned quite a bit. I definitely recommend this tour. Towns are very pretty. Gabriel a good story teller as well. Unfortunately I do not remember the drivers name but very friendly and very kind. I am recovering from a broken femur and he jumped out of his seat a few times to help me until he knew I was able to get in and out without a problem. The bus was comfortable. I think you will be very happy doing this tour!Written July 29, 2024
- MCL19520 contributionsGreat visit to areas outside of Stockholm. We had an interesting and informative trip to the countryside from Stockholm. Learned about rune stones, Viking life and history. Visited cathedrals and AD 600 burial hills. Overall great trip. Gustav spoke excellent English and gave great advice for lunch. Never felt rushed!Written July 27, 2024
- John Z0 contributionsA Look Beyond StockholmThis is a good trip to take to see towns and small cities within the surrounding area of Stockholm and get a full explanation of the historical development of the towns and their roles in Swedish history. Our tour guide, Gabriel, was exceptionally knowledgeable and did an outstanding job educating the group about the Viking historical significance and their contribution to the establishment of the country and Scandinavia. This tour will offer a foundation of Viking history to prepare you if you want to visit museums in Skansen and Vasa to observe viking artifacts. Be prepared for a long day and time driving from place to place.Written July 23, 2024
