The Royal Palace in Stockholm Admission Ticket

By Royal Palace
About
Welcome to one of Europe's largest and most dynamic palaces. The Royal Palace of Stockholm is His Majesty The King's official residence and is also the setting for most of the monarchy's official receptions, open to the public year round. This combination of royal residence, workplace and culture-historical monument open year round to visitors makes the Royal Palace of Stockholm unique amongst Europe's royal residences. The palace is built in baroque style by the architect Nicodemus Tessin and is formed as a Roman palace. The palace has more than 600 rooms divided between eleven floors with a state apartment facing the city and smaller living rooms facing the inner courtyard. The palace contains many interesting things to see. In addition to the Royal Apartments there are three museums steeped in regal history: the Treasury with the regalia, the Tre Kronor Museum that portrays the palaces medieval history and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities.

    A lot and more
I don't regret wandering through all the layers and parts of the palace. It was a lot and not everything was equally interesting to me (but clearly to others). If you are in Stockholm for several days, love history and/or royal splendor, then you must have been here.

    Loads to explore
Huge complex with different exhibitions within the castle. Expect to use at least 2 hours for your visit. Was perfect for a rainy day in Stockholm. Located within the Old Town.

    Nice
Pretty from the outside. We didn’t get in, except to the church. There was an expo outside for the king’s jubilee which was interesting to see. One thing to consider though is that it is ENORMOUS; if you get in –or get close– you’ll have to walk a long way to get through.

    Impressive !!
We came here with our walking tour guide. Since it was not part of the tour itinerary, we were shown only from outside. It looked impressive and we decided to come afterwards, but unfortunately due to shortage of time we could not come again. May be next time.

Changing of the Guard just like the others
Just left off the Amelienborg Palace in Copenhagen then arrived noon time at Stockholm to witness their own version of Changing of the Guard. Buying tickets can be confusing and once peak time at noon arrives be ready to deal with the crowds.

Great Treasury and interesting palace rooms
It wasn't clear which entrance to use to get tickets and it turns out that you can purchase your tickets at any of the entrances (ie: the Treasury or Royal Apartments, etc.) When we saw the long line at the main ticket booth, we used the app and it was easy and quick. There is a little bit of confusion on the different tickets, as some include the special collection for the Jubilee and some include entrance to things like the armory, but there is a basic ticket that gets you into the "regular" areas. The tickets did have a time stamp on them for entrance, but we were allowed into the exhibits before that time, so I don't know if they enforce the time stamps on particular days. The Treasury was fabulous with the incredible royal regalia and just the right amount of artifacts so it didn't get tiresome (!) seeing jeweled object after jeweled object. The Royal Apartments started out fairly plain and proceeded to be more and more over the top with decoration and color and gilding, etc. It was a nice place and a good amount to see and not too much reading, but it was pretty crowded.

    Worth a Visit
Visit The Royal Palace if you have time. It is interesting but every European Country has a Royal Palace. Plan on at least 2-3 hours. If you can plan it, watch the changing of the Guard (not Buckingham Palace but worth seeing. Get there at least 30 minutes before it starts. It doesn't seem like it but the best place to be is just outside the door from the Royal Palace. It probably won't be in the shade. Everyone will gravitate to the area that has the shade but not the best view.

    Busy but interesting
I viewed the palace in the middle of the day during the changing of the guard in order to minimise the number of people inside which seemed to work pretty well aside from one guided tour that seemed determined to spread themselves across every room they were in. Aside from them, there were small groups or pairs of people, respecting each others space and allowing each other to take photos and read the room descriptions. There were a lot of rooms to see, spread over two floors and the ticket also included the treasury, three crowns museum and museum of antiquities. Well worth the entrance fee.

    Absolutely splendid
This palace is enormous and each room is somehow more beautiful and elaborate than the last. It was highly enjoyable to wander through and take all the details in, and since the tour route is not a loop, you get to see it all twice! I'm so glad I decided to visit, it was unforgettable.

    A worthwhile visit
It is a big castle, lots of steps, interesting rooms. Probably the best part is that it is not a museum, but that they still use it for functions. 2 hours is plenty of time to visit.

    Fantastic, well worth the visit
We did the self tour, took us about 1.5 hours to see but all.. We started in the lower Treasury area where Crown Jewels displays are. Not very large but nice. The upper two levels are very large and magnificent. Well laid out and not overly busy so it was very comfortable in here. Only one tour group that we saw so easy to navigate in here. The architecture, art work and furnishings in here are awesome. Was a great decision to take the time to see this place. So many good photo opportunities. The outside court yard is nice, cannons and guards in place. We also saw changing of the guard outside before entering. All made for a great experience. Staff here are great and so helpful! Highly recommend this attraction as a must see in Stockholm..

    glad i saw it
Glad to have visited the palace. the various cabinets with glass and porcelain were interesting and the many and various medals. And uniforms. The tapestries and ceilings were good. \The rooms too sparsely furnished to be of great interest, this was a great shame. saw changing of the guard worth seeing this event

    Well worth a visit
Beautiful Palace, well worth the entrance fee. Particularly enjoyed the changing of the guards even though it was pouring with rain. As Eurovision Song Contest was on tv the previous Saturday, the band played the Swedish Eurovision winning song which was a nice touch.

    Friendly Staff and Interesting Exhibits
I was one of the first visitors of this attraction when I arrived at 10:00 am, The Staff encouraged me to also see the King’s Jubilee Exhibits, celebrating the current King’s 50 years of being the King of Sweden. There are 3 floors of exhibits, including Guest Apartments, Bedrooms, Throne, Paintings, Sculptures, Meeting Rooms, Clothings worn by the Royals, Tapestries, Chandeliers, etc. I spent about 3 hours here, looking at its exhibits. Highly reommended to visit it!

Visited from overseas to see the Royal Palace and state apartments
Was given overview from staff and what we could view
Paid our ticket price and we proceeded up the stairs to view
Once you climb the stairs you can view one room of jewellery
To our surprise the apartments were all closed with notice that special guests were in town next week and rooms were off limits
We proceeded downstairs and queried a smug staff member who proceeded to tell me that I looked angry that rooms were closed off .....Really ,?
No sorry just well that's the way it is
Do yourself a favour and stay away from this tourist trap maybe the smug lady may need to get real job

Interesting to go inside the Royal Palace and visit the rooms, impressive grand hall, throne room. The information provided in each room is not particularly interesting but is worth a visit. Unfortunately there was no changing of the guard ceremony probably because of Covid times.

Absolutely fascinating. We arrived just in time for the Changing of the Guard, which was definitely worth watching, before then visiting the palace itself. Inside, you can admire many stately rooms, traditional furniture and paintings. We probably spent a couple of hours wandering around and admiring everything, and you could easily spend more.

While the royal palace of Stockholm might not be as big and decorated as the more famous palaces in Europe, it still has it's charm and worth a visit.
We took a guided tour to learn about the history of the palace and the royal palace and to see the main rooms (well, the palace has about 600 of them).
In addition to the Royal Apartments there are three small museums included: the Treasury with the regalia, the Tre Kronor Museum that portrays the palaces medieval history and Gustav III's Museum of Antiquities, and for a little extra fee, the royal Riddarholmen church.
We spent about 3-4 hours and in the palace.

Nice exhibitions, you can see some of the rooms of the palace, and some of them are nice. You get a good insight of the palace. If you go early in the morning it is not crowded which is very nice. Maybe not the most impressive palace but still worth a visit.

The Palace itself was interesting and certainly worth a visit, although the layout can get a bit confusing with multiple rooms and entry points. We timed our visit to see the Changing of the Guards but were disappointed with the organisation and the experience. Despite securing a reasonable location behind the ropes and despite the guards constantly telling people to keep out of the laneway because the band and guards would be passing through there, they never did. So since we did the “right thing” and didn’t keep running around to follow the procession (like many others), we hardly saw anything, since we relied on them exiting the courtyard via the other laneway (where we were waiting). But in the end they went out the way they came in, so we hardly saw anything.

Central location so when you are visiting Stockholm, you’re bound to notice the Palace at some point. The same admission ticket allows you entry to the royal apartments, the royal chapel, the armoury, the treasury, and two little museums that center around history of the palace right next to the palace itself. It’s plenty to see with one ticket so you surely get your money’s worth, and with little extra you can also include a visit to the nearby Riddarholmen Church which holds the remains of some members of the Swedish royals.

If you’ve visited palaces before then this one isn’t anything shocking, on the contrary you might be finding the Swedish palace to be much more down to earth than others. It is still interesting to take a look around, and you will likely have a lot more breathing room than in other similar sites. I visited during peak time and yet could fully take in several locations without a crowd, even walking through the hall of mirrors completely alone!

One point of critique for the Royal Apartments would be how dark it was there. They had elected to keep all the heavy curtains closed and so it was very dimly lit.

This palace is really nice both inside and outside but with the great sunny day we decided to enjoy it better outside. Also they have a changing guards ritual that is impressive. We recommend arriving early because there was a huge crowd waiting... The access to the palace is free with the Stockholm pass. A great card for visiting Stockholm.

We only had time to do two things, so we chose this and the Vasa Museum. It was well worth it. My aunt used to be a diplomat in Sweden, and those two attractions plus Galma Stan were the only things she recommended! Obviously, I wish we had more time here because our tickets included the Royal Palace, Tre Kronor, and the Treasury. We were only able to go to the Royal Palace and run through Tre Kronor.

The Royal Palace was huge and divided into many sections. There was a rug exhibit called, "Look at the rugs - find me." I really loved looking at all of them but it was also very crowded. The Royal Apartments were pretty, but the Bernadette Apartments stole the show. I spent most of my time here because they had free audio guides that took you through the rooms. Overall, we spent an hour here but I wish we had two to three.

As castles go it's OK and if you're a true Swedish history buff then of course go, their free "listening tour" is very well designed. But if you're a tourist with only so many days in the area, take the boat to Skolkloster, it's far more interesting in my humble opinion, exhibiting more of the true Scandinavian castle style and it's a nice boat ride. The Royal Palace that stands today was built to reflect the French influence in the country.
