Get an overview of Stockholm with this walking tour that takes you to the highlights of the city. Visit Old Town (Gamla stan), the Royal Palace, and the Vasa Museum on Djurgarden in the Stockholm archipelago. Along the way, hear tales from the Swedish capital's past and present, leaving you with a fuller grasp of the geography and culture of the city.
What to Expect
Meet your guide and group in the center of Old Town at Stortorget, Stockholm's oldest square.
Stroll the cobblestone streets of and listen as your guide tells you about such historic characters as Birger Jarl, the man who founded the city of Stockholm in 1250. Walk through atmospheric narrow passageways and along streets originally built for horse-drawn carriages as you head for the Gothic cathedral, Storkyrkan.
Continue to the Royal Palace to admire its splendid baroque-style architecture, and the palace guards who protect the Swedish royal family's residence.
Next, it's time to explore the archipelago further. Take a ferry to Djurgarden island to visit the Vasa Museum. Explore the highlight: a nearly intact ship that sank off Stockholm in 1628 on its maiden voyage.
Your tour concludes in the museum, so feel free to continue exploring, or perhaps grab a bite to eat (own expense) at leisure.

Beautifully preserved gigantic war ship almost 400 years old with a fascinating story behind it. The material is well presented. Displays are professionally done. We were impressed. Take a break at the excellent cafe.

The tour we took is about 1 to 1-1/2 hours but that's with a modest tour of the museum. The tour ends at the Vasa Museum so we stayed longer on our own and you are in a very interesting area if you want to visit the ABBA... More

It's about 2 1/2 hours. The tour ends in the Vasa Museum, so you can take extra time at that museum after the tour ends, or of course go see some of the many other sights on the island of Djurgården (seriously, check out the... More
