Itinerary
- 1Aurora Hunting trip with reindeer sledding! The reindeer herder picks you up, and we will leave the city life in Kiruna for one evening and travel eastward on the aurora borealis road. The road leads us further north into the wilderness and to the reindeer in the heart of northern Lapland. The reindeer sledding tour brings you to the wilderness. Your new-found friend, the sled-reindeer pulls you forward. The silence emerges and you can hear the creaking of snow under the sled and the snapping from reindeer clover in the winter evening. Imagine a clear starry sky evening far from the city lights and you may be lucky enough to see the majestic Northern Lights. You are travelling in a reindeer "rajd" as the Sámi people did for hundreds of years ago in these areas. This is a true winter adventure which will make your smile shine in the winter darkness. After the tour, we feed the reindeer herd together and gather in the lávvu around the warming fire to eat a dish made of reindeer meet.

- keljopy3330 contributionsFantastic day spent, well worth itThis was a wonderful excursion from Kiruna. Frederick was very welcoming and had so much knowledge to share about his culture and we had an enjoyable time feeding the reindeer and sledding with them before a tent-cooked dinner of reindeer pitas.Written February 6, 2025
- Kristina29030 contributionsLovely day out with the reindeerIt was the best experience we had during our trip to Kiruna. To see and interact with the reindeer was simply amazing. The guide Peder was also very knowledgeable and friendly, and we learned a lot about the reindeer and the Sami culture as well. Thank you for this experience. I can highly recommend this tripWritten January 24, 2025
- Psychmedic0 contributionsFrederick was authentic and welcoming. The reindeer were friendly the view amazing the food/coffee were well prepared.I expected a touristy, crowded experience in a reindeer pen. Pleasantly surprised to find us a group of 8, Frederick as our one and only guide, herder, chef (with one helper), and hundreds of reindeer. We fed and mushed the reindeer and sat on reindeer hides to eat traditionally prepared reindeer sandwiches. It was perfect.Written December 28, 2024
- clarvies20230 contributionsMemorable experience! History, Cultures and Reindeers!I recently had the pleasure of joining a day tour from Abisko to Kiruna's exceptional open-air museum, dedicated to the Sami people of Swedish Lapland, and it was an experience I will never forget. Gavin, our tour guide, played a big role in making the day so enjoyable. He was incredibly chatty, friendly, and had a great sense of humor, making the entire journey feel personal and fun. The tour began with a smooth ride from Abisko to Kiruna. Along the way, Gavin kept us entertained with his knowledge of the area. He shared interesting facts about Kiruna, its history, and the local culture. His charm and witty commentary made the long drive feel short, and it was clear he had a genuine passion for the place he was sharing with us, and also passion for his job. The trip was well-organized, with Gavin managing the logistics of coordinating everyone who had booked different activities, such as visiting the Ice Hotel or going on a sled dog ride. His careful attention to detail ensured that everyone was dropped off at their respective destinations on time without any hiccups. We had ample time to spend at our own tour/location as well. Upon arriving at the Sami Village, I was immediately taken in by the authenticity of the experience. The real magic of the open-air museum is its ability to transport visitors into the heart of Sami culture. It was my first encounter with the Sami way of life, and I’m so glad I booked this tour. The museum is not just a display of artifacts; it's a living experience. Our guide at the village, a descendant of the Sami people, shared fascinating stories about their history, traditions, and connection to the land. His deep knowledge and personal connection to the culture made the experience feel even more special. One of the highlights of the village was the cozy café, which exuded a traditional, rustic charm. The interior was warm and inviting, with a large bonfire crackling in the middle to keep us toasty against the chilly air. The café served delicious traditional Sami food, and I couldn’t resist trying a few local specialties. The flavors were unique and satisfying, making it a perfect stop to warm up and enjoy the authentic tastes of the region. I ordered hot chocolate and it was yummy! Perfect for the minus 16 degree freezing cold outside! Of course, no visit to a Sami village would be complete without meeting the reindeers! These adorable animals were a real highlight of the visit. I couldn't help but think that these might be Santa’s reindeer, and they certainly added a magical touch to the experience. It was heartwarming to learn about the role reindeers play in Sami culture and how integral they are to the livelihood of the people. Overall, this tour was both enlightening and entertaining. Gavin’s warm personality and humor made the trip enjoyable from start to finish, and the Sami Village provided a fascinating look into a culture I knew little about before. The combination of historical insight, hands-on experiences, delicious food, and the charm of the Sami people made it a day to remember. If you’re visiting Abisko or Kiruna, I highly recommend booking this tour—it’s a perfect way to immerse yourself in the local culture, learn about the fascinating history of the Sami, and enjoy a fun, well-organized day.Written December 25, 2024
- RMLee19710 contributionsDisappointedSadly my trip was cancelled at 5pm the night before I was due to go for this at 8am. Whilst I respect that events with animals and nature are subject to change, some better notice would have allowed me to arrange a substitute activity. I was stuck in arctic sweden with no other available adventures to compensate. This was terrible considering the time and money spent to get to KirunaWritten December 22, 2024
- IslandExplorer12340 contributionsBest day EVER!We rearranged our trip to Kiruna to make sure we could go on this excursion since it is only offered on Mondays. We were so grateful we did. Frederik provided us a day I will always remember and treasure. Words cannot describe the experience. I loved every minute and wished I could relive it over and over. Don't miss out on this opportunity!Written May 6, 2024
- E663MElenab0 contributionsCancelled last minute because of overbookingI got this tour as a present and booked it back in January. Unfortunately the organiser cancelled it at 9pm the night before. The cancellation over tripadvisor didn't provide a reason why I wrote an email to them directly. To which I got a prompt reply (fast communication-the only plus) that they overbooked the tour because their booking system doesn't sync with third party bookings. Doubtful if this is a valid excuse, as organizer one should probably know about all the bookings earlier than the night before. We had travelled the entire day to get to Kiruna just for this tour and had hotel bookings so it feels really disrespectful to cancel so late. If this happens once- fine but as other reviews state wasn't this the first time it happened. And then it's maybe time to think of a solution as organizer to not take your clients for granted. Moral of the story, book on their original website if you don't want to get kicked off at the last minute.Written March 24, 2024
- shweta n0 contributionsCancelled without notice..TripAdvisor TAKE ACTION!It's 1.am and I just came to check on the clothing requirement for this trip...and it says CANCELLED. I checked my email- and no updates as to this was canceled and nay reason given. I paid 90 dollars to get here today from Abisko today to make it to this reindeer trip and u just cancel just cause ??????? This is terrible.....I have traveled to 10 counties so far and I have never experienced anything like it in TripAdvisor app. TripAdvisor really need to straighten up these people because they just don't care. I have another roommate from Australia and she came to kiruna just for this and after she leaves for abisko. Now for her 4 days trip...one day is wasted. Shame on u guys. It's 1 am and I have my alam and bus schedule in check to make it to my meeting point outside of icehotel. U guys didn't even bother to let me know that u had canceled this trip....no need to give us the notice....where we had paid a hefty amount for this???? Refund doest bring back loss time. I also cannot book another time as it shows it's sold out until march...may that's why u guys don't value canceling it because couple.of us don't hurt your business. No ethics...no.morals... Shame Shame Shame on u people. TripAdvisor read the cancelation items in the reviews and TAKE ACTION.Written February 6, 2024
- B6682LBnicolad0 contributionsDo not use this company.Despite contacting the company the week before our trip to check all was ok and being assured it was the company still took our funds from our account and shortly after emailed to say they had cancelled the tour. The lovely people at Arctic Eden Hotel in Kiruna called to ask what was wrong but no reason given. I emailed and explained I had a very disappointed young daughter and could they give any reason for the cancellation. They did not even respond and at no point gave an apology. As they cancelled so close to the date of the trip we could not book anything else at such short notice, meaning arriving in Kiruna a day earlier was a waste of time and money. Very sad when we were so excited by this.Written January 2, 2024

- eglep3780 contributionsAmazing experience in Sapmi! This was one of my favorite experiences in swedish lapland! Beatrice and Friedrik are the best guides and explained everything about the sami culture and way of life. They are very nice people and so passionate about their lives and the reindeer. The reindeers are SO CUTE and they are nor afraid of people at all, they let you feed them and everything. The sled ride is also amazing. And the food is just superior. Totally recommended!Written March 5, 2023

- 193ingelal0 contributionsFull day reindeer tourWe had a fantastic day together with Beatrice and Fredrik. They were the perfect hosts on their reindeer farm showing us their everyday lives. At first we could borrow warm artic clothes and boots. Then we helped feeding the reindeers, were taught how to throw a lasso and could try an exciting reindeer sleigh tour. We finished the day in the Sami tent where Beatrice gave us a beautiful reinder kebab and we could ask our questions. This was my way of celebrating my 80th birthday and I highly recommend anyone to experience this excursion.Written February 7, 2023

Frederick and Beatrice dressed in their beautiful cultural clothing, provided us what a wonderful, amazing experience. They picked this up in our hotel and we went out into the wilderness. We met the reindeer and had fun feeding them. Then we went on a sleigh ride pulled by the reindeer. After a ride we went to a teepee and Beatrice prepared a delicious meal of reindeer meat. We set by a fire and enjoyed juice and hot coffee while she told stories and educated us on their culture. We were sure we were not in Kansas anymore! I admired the lovely purse she was carrying and asked her where I could get one similar to it. She told me to contact her about getting one. She can contact me at yayajanann@gmail.com I look forward to hearing from her. Thank you so much for a memory that we will cherish the rest of our lives.

I really enjoy this tour. He drove us into the forest and we could see the sky so clear with many stars and step by step Aurora just appeared in front of us. It’s quite exciting to ride on reindeer sleighing and also get to feed them. Finally, we got into the Lavu for a nice dinner and tea. They are both really helpful. They kept asking us whether we can stand the coldness. It would be very nice to have a good photographer. Because it’s hard to take with our phone or camera without professional photographer.

Really special experience! You can really see these people are reindeer herders and do some tours on the side (not the other way around). They are very knowledgeable and really take the time to tell you about the Sami way of life.
As they are only doing small tours, some of the communication could be improved upon.

Frederick was an amazing local Sami tour guide. He gave us great background on the Sami people and the reindeer herding lifestyle. We fed the reindeer and got to ride along on the sleigh through the wilderness in total darkness. This was an incredible way to experience the northern lights! We were served a reindeer pita for dinner in a teepee with lingonberry juice, tea, and coffee. Frederick personally smoked and salted the reindeer meat, it was delicious.
We were provided warm suits, headlamps, extra wool socks, and boots to keep us warm.
Note: the experience was a little over 7 hours but we loved every second.

A very authentic experience learning about the life of a reindeer herder. Beatrice and Frederick were so friendly, fun and kind. We were driven out into the wilderness, fed their beautiful reindeer in the wild, enjoyed a ride on them and then had some delicious hot food. Making incredible memories for life!

Last night we made the *Aurora hunting with reindeer sledding* with Go to Lappland🇸🇪
Starry night, hours of northern lights, wonderful cute fellows 🦌 around us, delicious food around the campfire in Loabö ⛺, a nice squad and Bea and Frederik the two Samis. They just let us into their lives and showed us how the only and oldest indigenous people in Europe traditionally live.
A simple, hard life, always connected to nature...
that will still work in 2023 and hopefully continue to do so.
Humility, gratitude and mindfulness of nature that is worth protecting remains in us.

Where do I start? I feed more reindeers than I have ever seen in my life! Fredrick drove me in back of his snowmobile feeding reindeers since there are so many! All friendly with wonderful names and character, then the norther lights appeared, we got very lucky since it was the only day I saw them so clearly on my trip.
Sledding in a convoy of reindeers and guests was unforgettable, surreal the bright sky with northern lights!
Finally, the food with tea and strong that Fredrick's wife cooked we so tasty! They told us stories the entire group laughed they are such happy people!
(tip = they picked me up @ my hotel even THAT Hotel ;)
Thank you for the "homemade strong coffee" Fredrick! Also, you got the WINNING REINDEER all the best @ the races!
I will be back to visit!
