- 378jennyd0 contributionsAmazing trip in the Arctic with family and friendsWhat an amazing 4 days with Adventure Lapland at Mattarakka Lodge. It really was the trip of a lifetime with fantastic activities including snowmobiling, ice fishing, husky mushing and spending some time with the Sami and their reindeer. Mikko and the team were such great hosts and couldn’t do more for us and made our stay truly memorable. Special thanks to Fabio for taking the big kids snowmobiling for a second time! The lodge was so cozy and the food was 5 star dining - our chef was incredible and we now want all his recipes! Such a magical place and special people, would highly recommend.Written January 9, 2025
- mfairbanks0 contributionsDogsled experience, several hours guidedWe did the dogsled ride - great Musher/guide who taught us lots about the dogs and racing and more. Friendly dogs who love to run! It was a cold day and they got us with extra gear to keep us warm, snack and fire in the middle of the trip! It was just the right length and we were so glad to have gone. And they picked us up and dropped us off, total service! I would go again!Written February 24, 2024
- 573jacquelinel0 contributionsFabulous place to see the northern lights with opportunities for adventure and exploration too.My son and I spent 4 nights at the Mattharaka Lodge to celebrate our birthdays and I would happily have stayed longer. Fabio and Mikko led the tours around the local area and were knowledgeable, interesting and great fun. The lodge was warm and cosy, the breakfasts were a buffet style serve yourself and were excellent. Tea and coffee was available all day. The bedrooms were compact and very comfortable, with a seating area, en suite bathroom and good beds. It’s a family run lodge and all the staff were very friendly - it feels like a home away from home. Chef Alex provided a few meals on request (lunch or dinner) and they were very good. We were provided with all the cold weather gear for our time there and, as the weather was unseasonably cold, this was essential. We visited the Sami, went dog sledding (highly recommended with this tour) and practised mindfulness in a tipi ( then later with the dogs) and went snowmobiling twice. Once in the dark and once at sunrise. There’s a hot tub up on the roof (which you need to book) and a sauna in the lodge itself. And, very importantly, we saw the northern lights. There’s a clear viewing area facing north at the lodge. We had one excellent viewing and one with a green glow. We were also taken to a frozen lake one night. Fabulous stars though not much aurora action. The lodge is situated on the edge of the wilderness and there are numerous paths that have been compacted so that you can go walking on your own. The lodge is close to Kiruna, a mining town if you wanted some shopping but far enough away to feel like a retreat (about 10 minutes from the airport). We spent our free time hiking into the snowy wilderness. This is a fabulous place to go and stay if you want to see the northern lights - everyone goes out of their way to try and ensure you have the best chance. We loved it and I’m already planning a return visit.Written January 26, 2024
- Gastrofabfour0 contributionsStunning Aurora and Lapland Experience 10/10Visiting lapland and seeing the Northern lights has been on my wish list for years and this trip was absolutely magical and a dream come true. Mattarahkka Lodge is a beautiful base with the most welcoming family and staff. We were really lucky and saw beautiful aurora every evening and even saw polar clouds on one day - truly magical! The relaxed and professional set up of the lodge is a perfect way to sample the Swedish Lapland; the rooms are very stylish and the food is of a very high standard. Our family tried snowmobiling, ice-fishing, husky racing and reindeer/Sami experience along with the evening aurora chase. Everything was really well organised and nothing was too much trouble for our exceptional hosts, and we would highly recommend Adventure Lapland and Mattaarahkka Lodge. A big thank you to Mikko, Emma, Fabio, Alex and the rest of the team for a really amazing holiday.Written December 30, 2023

Thank you for a once in a lifetime trip. From dog sledding, snow mobile'ing, ice fishing, fika, delicious dining, and of course, the MOST amazing Northern Lights! The pictures give all my friends (who weren't there) goosebumps!Written December 21, 2023

I loved every single moment and all of the activities we did, husky trail, snowmobiling, northern light hunting were such fun. - louisecK8075JJ0 contributionsThe highlight of our trip - amazing experience!!Amazing experience!!!! This was the highlight of our trip to Kiruna! Our guide went above and beyond to provide us with an outstanding evening, including pickup/drop off, delicious reindeer stew dinner and snowmobile tour. We didn’t expect to see the aurora as it was very cloudy that night, but our guide went above and beyond for us and was very patient at the top of the mountain. We did end up seeing the lights and it was an incredible sight. Our guide took beautiful photos and explained more about the area. We had a great night full of interesting conversation and fun! So happy we booked this experience and fully recommend to anyone visiting. Excellent!!! 😊 We are excited to see the photos!Written March 10, 2022

- lennart5120 contributionsOne-of-a-kind experienceWe went with Mikko on a snowmobile tour. Although the aurora wasn’t bright and it was a very cloudy night, Mikko did his best to show it to us. It was a great experience. Mikko is an experienced and passionate driver, explained everything carefully and was very kind and patient with us. I would definitely recommend it if you would like to have a one-of-a-kind experience that stands out from the crowd. Thanks Mikko!Written March 3, 2022
- 463shrikants0 contributionsA wonderful tour and a fun way to spend the evening!I would recommend (and have recommended) taking this snowmobile tour with Nikko any day of the week. My tour started with a pickup from my hotel in Kiruna to the Mattarahkka lodge the outskirts of Kiruna. The lodge is situated away from lights pollution and in itself a great location to gaze at the northern lights. The first thing on the list was a Sami reindeer stew dinner followed by a snowmobile ride to the top of Mt. Ednamvarri. During my tour the northern lights started to make a strong appearance while we were having dinner so we quickly wrapped up dinner and made our way to Mt. Ednamvarri on the snowmobile. This was my first time on a snowmobile and Nikko was patient in explaining the procedure to operate the snow mobile safely. We made a stop on the way to the top of the mountain to get a few shots of the Aurora Borealis at its peak. The snowmobile ride takes about 15-20 mins each way and is a fun experience.Written January 3, 2022
- HBB990 contributionsLots of fun!!!Although the northern lights didn’t come out for us (the moon was too bright), it was so much fun driving my own snowmobile under the stars. Would certainly recommend for anyone looking for a fun activity to do in search of the northern lights.Written March 6, 2020

- FionaSom0 contributionsSnow mobile safariThis was AMAZING! Loved it, through the beautiful woods and over frozen lakes to a cosy cabin for delicious warm up with moose stew and fire - loved every minute - 4 hours 😁didn’t get to see northern lights as it was snowing and cloudy skies... but that would just have been a massive bonus.Written January 19, 2020

Hej!
Jag och en grupp med 6 personer kommer att bo i Kiruna, under December, och jag vill vetta vilken platsen aktivitet startar.
Jag har intresse om rundturen börjar och slutar i Kiruna.
Tack!
