Olympia - Museum and Actual Historic Site
On November 25, 2023 we visited Katakolon and Olympia. I believe Elena was our tour guide. She was excellent. We met the small bus as expected, and proceeded to Olympia. Since it was raining, Elena suggested that we visit the museum first. This was a great idea, since we were able to properly orient ourselves to the ancient site. Elena was extremely knowledgeable about what we were seeing, and immersed us in the 400's BC time period. We learned a great deal about the Greek gods and how they were very important to the original games. The site has been extensively excavated, and many of the statues were in the museum. The rain stopped and we proceeded to the site. It was breathtaking. We walked where the ancient athletes walked. History came to life in the words from Elena. On the way back to the ship, we stopped at a store that had Olive Oil and honey tasting. A nice place, and the stop was not too long. A great day!

        Olympia and olive oil/honey tasting
Small group tour of 14. Our guide Elena met us at the port and provided us with so much information about the history of her beautiful country. Our visit of the Olympia site and museums were so interesting, the sites are so big you could spend hours wandering around the grounds and museum. After our visit to Olympia we had a wonderful little stop for olive oil and honey tasting, so many options to choose from and the prices were not bad at all.

        Two excellent tours
We booked two excursions through The Travel Insiders for cruise stops in Katakolon and Athens. Both tours were excellent and we couldn't ask for more knowledgeable guides. Our ship was delayed by 3hrs getting into Athens due to weather issues, we advised them through WhatsAp and they were quick to respond and kept contact with us until we were able to port, they were waiting for us and completed our tour as planned. We would not hesitate to recommend them and will definitely book another excursion with then for our next trip to Greece

        Lovely Tour
Absolutely lovely day. The stop at Olympia Honey Farm is very charming. It is a local home where you are served coffee and wonderful traditional delicacy. The location is beautiful and you learn about honey farming from a family who has been doing this for generations. The olive oil stop is fun as you taste multiple types of oil and balsanic vinegar. A fun easy day with lovely people. Definitely recommend.

        The “Travel Inside(r) Scoop”
Our tour guide, Joan, was very informative about the area as we made our way to the Archaeological Museum and Olympia. Joan handed it off to Maria,, who took us around the museum and shared her knowledge. She then walked with us through Olympia, the site of the first Olympics. She gave us details about the site and then let us try our hand at the stadium. Joan took the reins as we headed to the olive oil tasting market. It was very nice. All in all, it was a very good day!

Not worth the amount of money. 150.00 PP for a ride to the museum. Took 5 hrs. Had to pay to get in. Terrible waist time
Not at all worth the money. Waisted most of our day. Brought us to a gift shop for our olive oil tasting. Felt like a tourist trap

        Highly recommended
What a great day! The tour guide really knew her history, and took her time explaining everything. There were just four of us on this tour, which really allowed us to have personal attention and care. Highly recommend this tour, and Travel Insiders.

        Fantastic tour!
This tour was amazing. We had an excellent "escort" who was very friendly and knowledgeable. There were just 8 in our group, so we had very personal service. The tour of Olympia was so interesting, and the stop for olive oil and wine tasting was in a nice shop with very reasonable prices for souvenirs.

        Great company, great tours.
Excellent company to work with, they were able to organise tours for us in several locations, and the tour to Ancient Olympia included a certified guide, which added to the enjoyment. Good communicators too. Highly recommend.

        Best Tour Guide in Olympia!
We were privileged to have Elena as our tour guide while visiting Katakolono/Olympia. She had so much interesting information and knowledge to share with us, which made this tour very unique and very memorable for us.

Did 4 tours with Travel Insiders - Excellent Experience
We got back yesterday from a cruise around the Greek Islands, and we decided to take small tours rather than ones offered by the cruise line. I did some research, and decided to use Travel Insiders for 4 tours: Olympia, Corinth, Mykonos and Santorini. I corresponded a lot with Despina in their office beforehand, and we came up with trips based on the tours offered on their website, but slightly adapted in a couple of cases. Prices for 4 people were generally less than we would have paid for ship's tours in large coaches, and ours were either small group (14 people) or just the four of us. Olympia was superb - Elena is a qualified guide, so was able to take us round the site herself, and Ioanna took over for a really enjoyable visit to Klio's honey farm and the wine and olive oil tasting. We'd already visited Athens on previous cruises, so decided we wanted to see the Corinth Canal and the ancient city of Corinth. This was another excellent tour, led by another guide called Ioanna (though not in the archeological site of Corinth itself: we could have paid for a certified guide there, but decided to explore on our own). Dimitris drove us around Mykonos to see the sights and views on the island plus a couple of beach stops, and Zafiro led our tour in Santorini to Akrotiri, Pyrgos, and a couple of excellent wine tastings, finishing with dinner in Thira to see the sunset. (We'd visited Oia before and it's wonderful, but wanted to see other parts of the island this time.) Overall, we were extremely happy with the tours: they enabled us to visit all the places we hoped to, with engaging and friendly guides. I strongly recommend Travel Insiders, and we'd happily use them again.

        A trouble-free and pleasant walkaround.
The pick-up from the port was ready and on time. As promised, the tickets were available on site. Do bring a hat, it is hot and sunny even in mid September.

Wonderful private tour of Katakolon and Olympia
My husband and I went on a Fabulous Mediterranean cruise last month that went to 7 different ports in Greece, Croatia, Montegro, and Italy. I worked hard to find tours in each port that would give us the feel of that place in the short time allotted in each. I was So Grateful when I found The Travel Insiders who arranged a Wonderful private tour of our time in Katakolon and Olympia. Despina Aggeli, who owns the business with her sister Elena, answered all my questions promptly, cheerfully, and expertly by email before booking, arranged the Perfect Day for us, and was there in person when we got off the ship to escort us to our home grown, Lovely driver, Andreas. It was a Pleasure to start the day without any crowds with a stroll down the cute main street of Katakolon where we found a Delightful coffee and a Delicious bakery. From there, we went to Magna Grecia (again with no crowds), which is a Don’t Miss family-owned farm specializing in olive groves and wine where we had a Terrific olive oil and wine tasting tour followed by a Fabulous lunch in the lush surroundings. Our final stop was Olympia where at my request, Despina arranged for us to pick up virtual reality glasses from Olympia Back in Time. Sadly, I did not take her up on her offer of a certified guide, because I thought the VR glasses with audio would suffice. While we very much enjoyed the experience the VR glasses provided, they worked intermittently, and were not at all aligned with the sites we were seeing. I think the best way to do Olympia would be to enjoy the VR glasses to get the feel and history of the place while seated in the air-conditioned museum, and then walk around the archaeological site with a guide so as to know what you are looking at when you are there. While we toured the museum after the archaeological site, our Wonderful Andreas ran the VR glasses back to the office before they closed for lunch, before coming back to get us back to our ship in plenty of time. Great, organized, personal service for a Fantastic shore excursion!

Great private tour with an intelligent and informed guide and courteous driver for just the four of us. Our guide did not go into the Olympic ruins with us, but she took us to the museum next to the ruins, got us our tickets and then gave us a quick "what to do and expect" near a map and sent us on our way. We didn't mind being on our own and wandered where we wanted and took a bunch of pictures. Our guide answered all our questions in the van during our drive and was truly knowledgeable and friendly. After Olympia, we went on to Kourouta Beach where we had lunch and a dip in the Ionian Sea. The beach was lovely with quaint cafes and umbrellas along the sand. The water was salty and warm. I was able to change into my swimsuit at a cafe bathroom and it was such a peaceful and lovely way to end our tour. We asked to be dropped off at the tourist shops near the port and walked and shopped our way back to the ship. I would highly recommend this over a big bus tour any day.

We had a great day with Elena and Despina. Their tour was very well organized and they certainly did a great job in making our day a very enjoyable one. Helena was very knowledgeable and accommodating to all. Their van was very comfortable and even had Wifi ! We would highly recommend this tour and in fact have already given their business card to a friend who is travelling their way next month !

Tour got off to a slow start waiting 30 minutes for a threesome that never arrived which but the whole tour behind schedule which was never made up. Guide was very knowledgeable and Olympia was educational. Beach time was less than an hour so barely time to grab a snack.

Beach was okay but subpar to most.

Would recommend if you have the entire party and could set the pace of your tour for the group.

We did this tour and were very happy. The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and patient as we stopped to take pictures all around the site of Olympia. We also were talking about wanting to taste local olive oils and wines, so she made a call and set up a last minute private tasting! I would highly recommend to anyone

Our tour guide- Elana Aggeli was extremely knowledgeable and very accommodating. We asked if she could add in (to an already busy tour) a wine & olive tasting event, which she put together in a matter of minutes!!! My wife and I had our 3 children and their spouses/significant others with us, and we all agreed this was the highlight of our trip. I cannot say enough great things about this tour and if given the opportunity again, I would do it all over again. Thanks so much Elana for making our trip to Greece so memorable!
