What to expect
  • The full-day adventure begins at the Thessaloniki railway station, where you'll catch a morning train with provided tickets. Relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Grecian countryside on the journey, stopping to switch trains at Paleofarsalos station. After arrival at Kalambaka, the closest town to Meteora, you’ll be greeted by an English-speaking driver at the station and transported to the monasteries in a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van. Visit three of Meteora’s captivating, UNESCO-listed monasteries, built directly into the cliff face at dizzying heights by monks in search of solitude and safety. Learn the history and legends behind these sky-high sanctuaries as you tour them with your guide (entrance fees not included). You'll also see the hermit caves of Badovas and admire the exteriors of neighboring monasteries; be sure to keep your camera handy while traveling through a dramatic landscape of ancient stone jutting out of a lush valley. Enjoy a casual takeaway lunch of sandwiches. Say goodbye to your driver and guide at the Kalambaka train station in the late afternoon. You will have about an hour of free time to walk in the town’s center. Then trace the route back to the Thessaloniki train station.

Boarding the tour bus and beginning the journey to visit the Meteora. Tour guide was so knowledgeable. The timing was great to provide enough time as needed at all sites. 100% would recommend this tour.

Excellent day trip, and the local guide made all the experience even better
Oct 2019
It was a little bit of a "last minute" decision, we initially thought of doing it in a little different manner, but it all turned out great. All the vouchers were immediately sent upon payment, with exact information "where to go, when to go", we were met at the Kalambaka train station by Vassilis (I hope I didn't misspell his name), who turned out to be a real gold mine in terms of history knowledge for the area and more. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good value travel agency!!

The best choice we could ever make! Once-in-a-lifetime-experience...
Nov 2019
Visiting Meteoras was on my bucket list ever since my mother visited it. It was a breathtaking special expreience. We are an undergraduate couple from Hungary.

We made the best choice with choosing this travel agency. We would have never known this much of the history of this unique place. I am addicted to history, and after visiting Rome this was ar my best expreience. it was a bless, a sentimental visit.

Maria, our tour guide was even better: she grew up on this area, her personal stories, humour made this trip so touching. Our driver was sooo cute, he helped taking pictures, came to us, set the position, and our best pictures are the ones that he made. We cannot say anything, just thank you for this once in a lifetime expreience.

We travelled by trains from Thessaloniki, our trip was good, because the agency gave everything to us: basically ur job was to get on the train and then get off. :)

You have to see these blessed monasterys. Also the view is amazing: you can't miss it.

What an incredible experience!
My day trip from Thessaloniki to Meteora was one of my greatest experiences as an avid traveler. Beautiful, historical and unlike any place I have seen, Meteora is a must. The team at Visit Meteora went above and beyond in helping me orchestrate the logistics of my trip, and I cannot speak highly enough of Eva, who was an absolute fantastic guide and whose enthusiasm and knowledge made this trip all the more special. Highly, highly recommend traveling with Visit Meteora if you are in the vicinity, even if just for the day trip.

Absolutely fantastic!
On August 5, 2019, I took this train tour from Thessaloniki to Kalambaka and was greeted at the train station by Eva and George from Visit Meteora. This was the best tour I’ve ever had anywhere! Eva was amazing - such vivid and articulate storytelling about the history of the geography, landscape, religious, social and political background of Meteora. The company was very accommodating in arranging my departure from Kalambaka to Athens, which was most convenient for my schedule. I can’t say enough about how totally impressed I was with this company. I spoke to Eva and commended her on her tour guide skills - she really did a wonderful job!!! This is a must when visiting Greece!!! ❤️

We really enjoyed this tour. Our guide, Katerina, was excellent, as was our driver. It would have been helpful to have the fact we needed to change trains highlighted on the information we were sent - it did say on our train tickets but only in very small print. Also there are a lot of steps to climb if you want to go in to the monasteries which should perhaps be mentioned, along with suitable footwear - not flip flops, my standard summer wear! Altogether though it was very well organised and we felt well looked after.

Great tours, could use more guiding in getting there

We did the three-day, two-night tour from Thessaloniki. Once we arrived in Kalambaka, just about everything was perfect. The guides were wonderful and the hotel (we upgraded to a four star) was very nice. The restaurant (Panellinio) was not that great -- the staff was very friendly, but we were limited in our options as part of the package, and the food was only adequate. We actually ended up going to a different restaurant for dinner on the second night and paying out of pocket.
I would suggest Visit Meteora actually pay closer attention to the reviews stressing the confusion surrounding the train transfers. Getting to Kalambaka from Thessaloniki wasn't too bad, since the transfer point is a terminal stop. But returning to Thessaloniki was very confusing. We were not given any direction as to what stop to get off at, and it was difficult to hear the names of the stops over the loudspeaker. We only knew where we needed to get off because we asked the conductor as soon as we arrived at the train station in Kalambaka, and he watched out for us -- even preventing us from getting one stop too early. I think it would be advisable to have someone accompany travellers on the train, or at least make it VERY clear how to navigate the rail system, given that the majority of customers are in a foreign country and cannot speak or read the language.
