About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- _W7294GX0 contributionswasted dayA non-air-conditioned and stuffy bus. Mainly passenger pick-up stations, three remote travel spots without the ability to enjoy and visit touristic places. Guide having difficulty with the language, confused. A trip not recommended. wasted day .Written April 25, 2024
- gpants10 contributionsLong trip on an uncomfortable bus to see some nice locationsThe locations visited on this bus trip are interesting, but unfortunately the bus interior was run down and very uncomfortable. The bus was half an hour late. Though we arrived early we thought we might have missed it. We were not contacted by Altino Travel about the lateness nor was my email asking if we had missed the bus answered. The guide said traffic was the cause. Fair enough. My seat was broken. When the guide was informed he said it was a very full coach and nothing could be done. I spent the whole trip pushing my seat back into place. Many fixtures were grubby, cracked and worn, less than half the cabin lighting worked. The air conditioning seemed not to be on and the coach was hot and smelly. The guide was impressive explaining the trip in French German and English, but he rattled his spiel off so fast less than half of it was intelligible. A very long trip in uncomfortable circumstances to see some nice locations.Written October 3, 2023
- Adventure7082900 contributionsLong day in an old busA long day with a late pickup in an old bus with broken seats and rubbish from the previous travellers. The air-con was working but not efficient enough for the passengers down the back.Written October 3, 2023
- harrison770 contributionsRelaxing day outBooked on the day trip to Agios Nickolas, Elounda and Spinalonga . We were picked up on time from Malia. Our tour guide Elena as very good with lots of commentary throughout the trip and clear instructions regarding meeting points / times. Got to spend free time in several places . The stop at Spinalonga was very interesting - thought provoking . Had a lovely relaxing day .Written September 20, 2023
- Voyager1938840 contributionsGreat tourI was so impressed with our tour guide - she was so informed & shared with us so many details & history - highly recommend the tour & our tour guideWritten September 10, 2023
- Christian R0 contributionsWonderful day with many highlights, perfectly organised.Overall a tour that we can definitely recommend. It was perfectly organised, pick-up from the hotel, friendly personnel and very modern busses. The programme was not too stuffed and good to digest. However, the tour guide can improve (thus 4/5 stars).Written September 6, 2023
- atkinsonna10 contributionsGreat ExperiencePick up service was excellent, especially as location changed last minute but they arranged for us to be picked up and driven to the coach. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and answered nearly all the questions asked by the group, however I do wish we had some time to explore the palace ourselves as I feel we might have missed a few areas due to time constraints of the day, as we felt the stop in Heraklion could have been shorter, we understood that the length for Heraklion was so that people could do both the archaeological museum as well as the town centre.Written September 2, 2023
- Donald D0 contributionsGreat trip, needed better organization thoughI loved th sailing and the snorkeling. The crew was kind and did their jobs well. Only thre criticisms. Both of the organizers, not the crew. Getting liquids required asking, and they were served in small cups, even the water. I drank a LOT of water to recover when I got home. Just let the crew hand me a bottle of water when I ask. Because I know that is the organizers trying to save a penny or two. Second, people I was with had planned and booked a private your. They were split up. They took it well, but the issue slowed our departure, and dampened their fun. Three, the booking said I would get hotel pick up, and they switched me last minute to a meetup place. This last minute switch made me 5 minutes late, contributing to our delays. So while the crew and the trip were great, the organizers need to get better as their tasks.Written August 18, 2023
- jarselo0 contributionsGreat day trip to see different parts of CretePerfect if you don’t want guidance at the spots. 1 star missing because of poor air condition in the bus and a bit more time would be good at Chania and Rethymnon to see more of the big cities. The bus rides have very nice scenery so it is worth the time.Written August 7, 2023
- FraserMarge0 contributionsCustomer-friendlyGreat tour and VERY customer-friendly service! Definately recommend! Still, 1 remark - tour was in 2 languages. For us it was not an issue, but instead a good repetition. However, anybody pessimistic could claim that we got only 50% of the time payed for.Written August 2, 2023
- L7500ZOevac0 contributionsNotice from two french peopleHonestly really nice guided tour. We learned so much. Unfortunatly we did not understand everything even though we’re not bad at english. Also, the guide spoke two languages so sometimes it took a few seconds to her the fact that she changed from german to english.Written July 22, 2023

- andreamW8252XY0 contributionsMemorableThe views were amazing. The tour guide was friendly and has given all the necessary information. It was a little scary because of the waves, we had a 20 minutes storm with high waves. All the passangers were scared and were having a hard time facing the storm. Overall, it was a once in a lifetime experience! Thank you!Written June 18, 2023
- Janice M0 contributionsA busy day near HeraklionAs we needed to be picked-up from Elounda, we knew it was an early start at 730am. It was a bit messy, as we picked up others at Ag Nik, and then had to change from the minibus to a big coach at Malia, further pick-ups, and finally arrived at Knossos at 10am. We had a very good guide (Helena), from Ag Nik area, who was very knowledgeable& friendly, great speaking English & French. After Knossos, we spent around 3 hours or so at Heraklion including about 1 hour in the museum. Then 2 hours return journey, all done in the minivan this time. I think it was good value for money at 45 euros each, when our tour operator & hotel were charging 80 euros each for the same excursion with similar amounts of time at the locations. All operators didn't include the ticket price - we bought combined ones at Knossos - 20 euros each. A good day full of information & great things to see.Written May 23, 2023
- Roving514784801250 contributionsReasonable price and very private!!!The guide was excellent however when I asked her a question she made an assumption that she already answered that question and I wasn’t listening. She gave me some attitude. Also she took us to a carpet demonstration that also included a little bit of a push to buy a beautiful but very costly Turkish rug. A little more pressure than I wanted. Although the demonstration was interesting I was in no mood to be pushed into buying a very costly rug. Our guide was very informative and enthusiastic. I would highly recommend doing the private tour on your own and not through the cruise ship. It was about a quarter of the cost and very private. We got in before the big crowds hit and out before they got back to the ship.Written October 5, 2022

Had to take a taxi from the Blue Palace back to Agios Nikolaos then the boat back to Spinalonga and reverse, when the Island was straight out a couple hundred meters from the hotel. There is a boat from the pier in Plaka that would have saved us 4 hours and a couple hundred euros if Trip advisor would have given us the option. Also the “tour” of Spinalonga consisted of a lady taking us into a cavern and lecturing us on the history of the island rather than a walking tour. Google could have told us all about the history.

We are sorry for your unpleasant experience but you have reviewed the wrong product.
We are Altino Travel and our boat departs from Elounda not from Agios Nikolaos that you mention.
Furthermore, had you booked with us we would have informed you about the non-sensical itinerary that you mention.

A truly fascinating history that dates back to Venetian times and right up to the 1950’s. A short boat ride for €10 from Plaka Elounda on a boat that goes every 30min. We would really suggest taking guide we at random picked Pavlos (+30 6940102990) a grey haired gentleman from the area who knew so much from personal understanding and who was a font of knowledge and interesting facts on the history and life on the island. Worth reading the book ‘The Island’ before hand - staggering how this sad but amazing history of incredibly resourceful people is/ was trying to wiped away by the government. A must see when in the area

To start off. I have to say that we experienced on of the hottest days in Crete while on this trip so that might’ve put a shade on things, but still I have to say it was only ok.
From the outline of the tour I had the idea we’d see more than we did. It’s essentially a trip to Spinalonga island. Agios Nikolaos was very beautiful, but again, we most managed to grab lunch and had 20min to spare walking around. What they don’t really tell you anywhere is to bring a bathing suit, luckily I read that in the comments.. ideally you’d also bring yourself some lunch and lots of water, otherwise your short viewing time might be cut even more by getting food somewhere.
Finally, they do pickup, but since it’s a full bus you spend a lot of time on this, especially if you yourself are based in Heraklion and get picked up first/dropped off last. Plus the AC on the bus was really struggling… 😩
Having spent the previous day on a semi private tour, I have to say that this option is not the best. Yes, you pay half the price, but the bus is full to the brim, the guide constantly spoke 3 languages to accommodate everyone and it’s just feels like a meat factory.

We travelled with an excussion via Tui. £65 per head, including lunch in the bay and a further visit to Nicoli (spelling is wrong). So please bare in mind my comments are via their sale.
The Island offered a great rep 'Veta' full of info and in depth knowledge of the local area/history and obviously the Island. A walk around the Island is perhaps an 60-90 mins max, is plesant and like many tourist areas where it is historic ruins, there is not much else once you visit the main area.
Great views back towards land and a pleasant sea breeze to help with the heat. The Ferry crossing is around 20mins either way and drinks can be pruchased onbaord. 4 euros a bottle a beer.
The lunch was in the harbour/bay at a large resturant and whilst not a bad meal was also simple tasting, chicken, potatoes in a weak tomatoe gravy. Drinks at extra cost. Then perhaps 30-60mins to yourselves. There are a few sovenior shops and other bars. You can swim in the sea if you chose. You will not require more time, unless your sun bathing.
We then moved onto the next town and allowed free time...more shops and resturants...
The early start, being collected at 7.30 and returned at 4pm tired us out. If i was Tui , I would look to either start a little later and/or remove the Nicoli visit or at least have lunch in Nicoli. Both villages/towns offer similar shops/resturants so its a duplication.

Credit where credit is due our guide, Yannis, was amazing he was so chatty and friendly and chatting with both the French and German travellers. Also I had to check with the tour provider where the pick up point was and Maria was very quickly responsive and helpful.
The tour itself however I think needs revision. An hour and a half in Agios Nikolaos is too long to sit around in cafes in the morning but not long enough to do anything like the nearby museum. Then on to Elounda where the only thing to do is sit in more cafes for a further hour an a half waiting for the actual tour to Spinalonga. The boat was good and Yannis gave us a nice overview of the islands history on the way. Spinalonga itself was fantastic, but you only get another hour and a half there which isn’t long enough to fully look round. Overall decent trip but timings need revisiting.

The little island is worth a visit but I'd say the architecture is not something to die for. The history of the place is what brings people here. The views from the top of the island are quite nice and the boat trip from Elounda is fun too (30 min, 12€).
Try to avoid tourist groups which are very annoying. We got stuck between 2-3 groups and this made the first part of the visit not very enjoyable. But once these groups moved on it was nice to discover the island. The little descriptions of the life in the leper colony were interesting.
You need about 90 minutes or max two hours to discover the island.

Well paced tour travelling on a comfortable air conditioned coach and our own sailing boat. Once everyone had been collected from their pick up.points our first stop off was free time in Agios Nikolaos, where we opted for a quick look in the souvenir shops, a wander around the beautiful lake and admiring the sea views, then on to Elounda where there's a beach and we chose to have lunch in an excellent taverna, and then on to our boat for the trip over to Spinalonga. We bought tickets (€8) to explore the old fortress/ Leper Colony which was very interesting. Brief stop out at sea for anyone who wanted a swim, then back to Elounda for the drive back. The guides were all friendly, informative and helpful. This was a full 10 hour day and the price was amazing.

Bus was on time and runs to multiple stops so it was east to get to the pick-up point. The driver, Spiros, was professional and friendly and the tour guide, Elena, was wonderful. She knew the information very well and spoke in English, German and French. The entire trip went very smoothly and I would wholly recommend this, it was my favourite day activity from my time in Crete!

Fantastic day which we all enjoyed. Our guide Elena was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A good mix of stops with the right amount of time for each.
Would recommend bringing swimming costumes for the swim at the end of the day on the way back from Spinalonga. We didn't because we thought it would be too cold, but it was perfect, so we wish we had done.

It was a great way to see and learn about Agios Nikolaos, and take a beautiful boat to Spinalonga island. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and was able to speak 4 languages (English, Greek, French, and German). Driving in Greece is tough so having a bus take you across the island was very convenient. Another great thing was that bus Was speaking people from multiple locations. We stayed in the center of Heraklion and we’re still able to take this bus.
Agios Nicolous was gorgeous with lots of delicious cafes, sites to take pictures and shop and Spinalonga was full of history. We even got to swim in the see on the way back from the island.
Definitely recommend!!!

Hello,
When we went to book this tour for tomorrow, Wednesday, it showed available and then wouldn’t let me click on it. Is this tour still available for 2 people from Heraklion?
Thank you!
