Heraklion Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour

Overview
Get to know Heraklion and stop to visit the Palace of Knossos just outside the city on this open-top hop-on hop-off tour. With your unlimited-use 1-day ticket, board the open-top, double-decker bus at any of 11 stops around the city. Then, with your free city map, hop off at the stops of interest to visit attractions such as the Minoan relics at Knossos and the harborside Venetian Castle. Otherwise, stay aboard and absorb the panoramic views of the sights as you learn about Heraklion’s past from the onboard audio commentary.
What to Expect
Crete’s buzzing capital of Heraklion blends ancient history, intriguing museums and colorful shops, and crowns them with the ruins of the ancient Palace of Knossos, situated just outside the city. With all this begging to be explored, a hop-on hop-off bus tour has to be one of the most convenient ways to see the sights.

Simply book your 1-day ticket and, when you’re in the city, hop aboard the open-top, double-decker City Sightseeing bus, receive a free city map, and set off to discover Heraklion’s highlights.

Sit back, relax and absorb the 360-degree views on the entire 1-hour loop as you learn the stories behind the sights from the informative onboard audio commentary. Pass historical sites such as the city's original Venetian walls and when you’re ready, hop off at any of the 11 stops, to sightsee by foot as you wish.

Be sure not to miss the famous Palace of Knossos archaeological site. Leave the bus here to explore its treasures: the semi-ruined and partially restored palaces and courtyards of what was Crete’s Minoan capital between 3400 and 2100 BC. Stroll around the relics and rooms of King Minos, and learn the story of the mythical Minotaur, the strange beast that was reputedly kept in the palace’s mysterious underground labyrinth.

Having explored here, hop back on the bus and travel back into Heraklion to discover other must-sees. Maybe hop off the bus to visit the beautiful Venetian Castle at the harbor, or disembark at the Archaeological Museum to see its vast collections of classical statues, frescoes and other items excavated from around the island.

Your ticket is valid for one day of unlimited travel on the bus, from the time of first use. Buses depart from each stop roughly every 45 minutes.

See the Itinerary for a full list of hop-on hop-off bus stops.

Not worth the money

My wife and I booked an open top bus and both feel it was a few hours of our life we will never get back, not to mention the 30 euros we spent.

not worth the price

I hate to write a bad review but the bus was over an hour late and quite frankly there was not enough sights to see. We went the same way there and back. I usually like a hop on off bus but not this one.

Terrible waste of time

This was the worst Hop on Hop Off experience I have ever had! This is promoted as having as least two lines, so the buses should run somewhat frequent, that of course does not happen. It seems that there is only one driver driving the...More

See the city and get around from site to site

First off, I love hop on hop off buses. The one in Heraklion has two lines - the red line takes you around the city, tight to things you want to see - museums, Palace at Knossos, the old Venetian fort and so on. It...More
