- U2766EJrachelg0 contributionsA Beautiful Introduction to Crete with Mario and Safari Experts! We had the absolute pleasure of joining Mario from Safari Experts for the Cretan Life – Cooking Lessons tour, and it was an incredible way to experience the heart of Crete. Mario’s personality truly made the trip unforgettable—he’s warm, knowledgeable, and has a great sense of humor that kept us laughing the whole day. His passion for Crete’s culture and traditions shone through, making the tour feel like an adventure with an old friend. The day was filled with so many memorable experiences. We started at a shepherd’s farm, where we tried goat milking and tasted fresh cheese—such a unique and authentic activity! At the Aposelemis Dam, we got to admire breathtaking views of the dam and the sunken village of Sfendili from a gorgeous overlook. Mario even came up with some hilarious photo op ideas for my husband and me, which we’ll cherish forever. The cooking lesson was another highlight, where we prepared traditional snacks and got hands-on with local recipes. Later, we enjoyed a full traditional Cretan meal at a local restaurant, complete with wine and warm hospitality—it was a true taste of the island. The ceramic workshop was unforgettable, allowing us to craft our own pieces and shop for beautiful, high-quality ceramics at fantastic prices. It was so special to take home a little piece of Crete with us! Mario’s thoughtful approach and incredible storytelling made every stop along the tour feel meaningful. This experience was not just a tour—it was a beautiful introduction to the culture, history, and spirit of Crete. We highly recommend Safari Experts and especially Mario to anyone looking for an authentic and unforgettable adventure.Written November 26, 2024
- Lauren B0 contributionsAmazing! We booked a private car off road trip and had a guide in a car in front. Our guide was amazing, funny friendly and helpful. Off roading, seeing the local villages and viewpoint, local cafes and attractions. After a day of adventure we joined a group of 20 ish people at their base we they had prepared a bbq and salad as well as drinks. The bbq was included and the alcoholic tipple they gave and to buy water juice or alcohol it was so cheap. The pick up and drop off was easy and great. Was a bit expensive but we chose to have a private one and drive our own car. The whole day was an adventure we will never forget. Would highly recommend and will do againWritten November 20, 2024
- F4228OBlesliep0 contributionsNo dull momentsWe are very happy that we booked this tour. It is nice to see the villages, know how people live and learn the culture. Our guide named Vagelis made it so fun that there is no dull moments during the entire trip. We've got a photographer as well. This is highly recommended though cave of Zeus is closed during our tour because it is too late for us to come to Crete. A lot of businesses started to close for the winter season. According to the locals the best time to come is from May to september. But we will definitley go back and book other trips with safari experts of course.Written November 19, 2024

- laurendB4596AE0 contributionsThank you Adam!Thank you to Adam for being our paparazzi and taking photos of my husband and I on our trip! We had so much fun visiting the beach and seeing the gorge. He even bandaged my knee after I tripped on a walk. Highly recommend!!!Written October 27, 2024
- 12miyak0 contributionsWe met a goat called Samantha lolWe saw so many view tops and they were all amazing Mike took loads of pictures for us and we had so much fun in the car on our way, we listened to lots music and I got to be the DJ, Mike told us lots of jokes and history also visited lots of churches that were really interesting. We stopped at a little cafe to have some traditional coffee and it was so tasty and then we had some lunch which was so good and saw so many cute cats my favourite part was when we was going up the mountain and I got to milk a goat and try fresh olive oil. But overall Mike was really fun. (He had amazing camera skills)Written October 27, 2024
- PsalmBodyToLove0 contributions5* for Safari ExpertsThis trip was so much fun!! I booked as a solo rider as my partner didn’t want to join, so I was slightly apprehensive, but it was amazing! We traveled around different areas of the Lasithi region, stopping at scenic spots taking in the picturesque landscape of Crete. I knew it would be good, as this was my second trip with Safari Experts, but it was even better than expected. Alex, my group guide, kept checking in on me to make sure I was okay - which as the only solo rider of the group I appreciated. The off-road part of it was pretty awesome, especially the second off road stop! I fully recommend this trip, and Safari Experts as a trusted tour group. Word to the wise: if you’re doing the quad biking, accept the offer of buying the bandana for €7 if you don’t have one with you. Don’t be smart thinking you can go without, it gets incredibly dusty! I’m glad I bought one from them.Written October 26, 2024
- 199nedm0 contributionsHighly RecommendIt was a very fun trip to see the quieter and more traditional interior of Crete. Our visit to a quiet and traditional coffee shop in a small village was a highlight. The traditional lunch in another village was relaxing, delicious, and not too touristy—just what we wanted. Our guide, Vagelis, provided fantastic local insights and the history of Crete. I highly recommend it.Written October 25, 2024
- nieshamcc0 contributionsNot sure it was worth the moneyAdam was amazing host / driver.. Pick up and dropp off from our hotel and Lunch was included. The cooking class was just a wee 5 min show on how to stuff peppers. While some goats ran away. We did see some great views and got some good photos . But I'm not sure it was worth the £95 per person charge. We did book this throw pur hotel so not sure if they get a cut of the payment.. but if u need a cheaper tour just rent a car for the day and just use Google maps for it all..Written October 25, 2024

We had an amazing evening on this tour with our guide Michael with a K ! From the moment he picked us up his great sense of humour shines through combined with a a strong knowledge of Crete and its history Mikael really made our trip so much fun. Was definitely one of the highlights of our family holiday which we have taken great memories home from. Remember to take some cash if you want to buy the homemade raki and olive oil or honey which are for sale at the little farm the tour stops at where we got to sample both the oil and the raki. Watching the sunset with a glass of Prosecco over epic views was a really unforgettable experience ! Dinner at the taverna at end of night was really tasty and again had a really fun atmosphere I had the chicken souvlaki and some of my family had the pork served with homemade chips and salad along with red or rose wine and of course more raki to end the meal. We hope to book another trip with this company next year would not hesitate to recommend them based on our experience this year.

THIS tour combined breath-taking scenery with sightseeing which was well and truly off the beaten track.
The culmination of everything came thousands of feet up in the mountains watching a dying sun colourfully slipping behind clouds, but there was so much before that.
We were shown different kinds of mountain herbs, ancient ruins and some modern ones as well.
The modern ones were a sad indication of the decline of rural Crete.
Youngsters in remote villages cannot find work so they leave and go to the big towns or down to the tourist coast to try and earn a living.
That leaves the mountain villages to wither and our knowledgeable guide informed us that some villages of more than one hundred people are now down to barely thirty.
He had plenty to illustrate his words and village after village that we went through showed locked and deserted homes and boarded up businesses. In one little square alone we saw a store, a bakery, a restaurant and two other businesses all abandoned because there just wasn't enough remaining trade to keep them alive.
Other memories were not so harsh and the scenery we saw was simply stunning as was our guide's driving skills, threading his way up crude mountain roads which would have given second thought to a goat.
We also visited a remote farm, learned about how life there was like many years before and tried our hands at grinding corn between two stones, milking a goat and savouring delicious thick mountain honey some of which I was able to buy.
We finished things off with a sumptuous rustic meal in a little taverna where there was traditional Greek salad, chicken and pork which simply fell apart it was so well cooked all washed down with carafes of red and white wine.
Definitely a tour to recommend because the standard tourist will see none of what we experienced, a brief taste of the true Crete away from tourist hotspots.
Don't miss a chance to go with Safari Experts. They really know what they are doing and you'll have an experience to remember.

It was a wonderful journey. Our guide Mario showed us interesting and historical places in Crete, telled stories about it. His colleagues (we traveled with 3 other jeeps to sunset location) were so frendly and funny, that we didn't have time to think about our personal life. Thanks for amazing experiance!

Easily one of the top excursions on Crete. The Sunset Jeep Safari was well worth the expense. Travelling high into the central Crete mountains, which offered stunning views of the surrounding countryside. In the professional hands of a driver who also lives in the local community, we meandered along rough narrow rural lanes while viewing olive, orange and lime groves at close hands.
The high points of the evening were the breathtaking sunset views and later the absolute awe-inspiring stars and constellations...amazing.
A special mention for Nikos, our guide. This guy knows everyone we met. Some farmers were even his family. This aspect of the tour brings a personal dynamic, which enabled us to experience the real Cretan lifestyle, away from the busy tourist hot-spots. Nikos also injects his open fun-loving infectious personality, which bonds this quite special experience with others, who may not even speak your language.
I'm getting anything in return for writing this review, honest. However, I would definitely recommend Safari Experts and their Sunset Safari. You don't be disappointed.

Myself, my husband, our 3 kids (11,14 and 14) and my dad all really enjoyed this trip.
Our guide Daniel was excellent, so friendly, and knowledgeable and looked after us so well. Hard to believe he's only 23 and only in the job a month because he was brilliant as our guide and driver.
We were picked up from our hotel and visited a resevoir, sunken village, a gorge, Sheppard farm, watched the sunset from up the mountains, visited a little village and an ancient tree as well as having a lovely dinner. And there was plenty of raki, prosecco and wine along the way too!
Daniel stopped several times to show us wild herbs, flowers and tress and to tell us stories and information about the area.
Easily the best trip of our holiday and would recommend it and safari experts to anyone holidaying in Crete.

The highlight of our trip to Crete. A brilliant tour into the mountains, seeing a side of Crete we hadn’t seen before. Llias was a brilliant guide, bang on time, really enthusiastic and professional with a great knowledge of Crete, traditions, culture, nature and geography. The sunset on the mountain top was stunning, the off- roading was great fun. We even did an impromptu stop for some star gazing on our way back. Highly recommended.

Let’s start off with the pick-up service they have. We had an hour drive to make from our hotel, we connected through WhatsApp/Tripadvisor and this way they picked us up the closest as they possible could!
Here we were greeted by our guide: Giannis. This guy made the whole tour feel like something special and made us laugh all the time! He knows a lot about the environment and is very enthousiast about this, so he knows how to bring this to his guests!
The whole trip he was joking about through is WalkieTalkie-style equipment with his colleague and making funny jokes.
When we arrived at our destination which you need to see for yourself we got some fresh fruits and a glass of Prosecco to watch the amazing sunset.
We finished the tour with a nice dinner at a local taverna with some delicious house made wine.
Would definitely recommend!

We did this trip on 8 June and it was amazing! Our driver was Mikael, he was so professional, courteous, informative, an absolute asset to the company. There were only 4 travellers in the jeep, we got along really well, I cannot recommend this trip enough - it’s something a bit different, a wonderful experience
