    The Palace of Knossos
Stop: 90 minutes - Admission included
Knossos! What an enchanting place! This is simply a must visit site in Crete if history, culture, and myth are of any interest to you at all. Hire a guide to help bring the place to life. It is harder to get a true sense of the place without the guidance and knowledge of experienced guides. There is signage but it is simplistic and limited only sharing a fraction of what you're actually seeing and why. Knossos, a complex of more than 1500 interlocking rooms, was an astonishing palace, built for a mighty king of the Bronze Age. As you wander through the labyrinthine ruins, you will have the chance to see the original throne of "Minos", the mystifying sanctuaries, the luxurious domestic quarters of the royal family, the once upon a time bursting with Crete’s treasures pantries and the astonishing water-management systems! Skip-the-ticket-line service ! Licensed tour guide for a 90-minutes guided tour in a small group.

    Wonderful cultural insight!
This tour was exactly what we were looking for! Our guide gave us not just a general historical context of the city, but most importantly an appreciation for the various cultures, people, and events that allow led us to really appreciate the character of Heraklion. She took us to many shops and cafes to taste and see some true and authentic Cretan produce and products from the people of Crete and we were so welcomed by them all! It was a perfect way to experience a broad spectrum of culture in a short time, I hope all our future walking tours are like this one.

    Fantastic memorable tour!
We went on this tour last year and meant to do a review at the time! It was fantastic and worth every penny! We were able to skip the line which was a real bonus. Tour was at 9am so it was great to finish before it got too hot. Tour guide Akrivi was so engaging and knowledgeable and made this a wonderful memorable experience.

    Tour Guide made the Experience
The views were awesome but having a tour guide explain what you were looking at and the historical and mytholgic references made the trip.

    Knossos palace visit
We visited Knossos Palace with an 18 Yr old Classics student grandson, and was very good. If you are thinking of visiting, I would suggest leave it to arrive at around 2pm or after. Less queues to get in and inside.

Excellent tour with engaging and knowledgeable guide
We joined Akrivi for the Knossos Palace Greek Mythology tour. We really enjoyed the tour. Akrivi was engaging and friendly from the start, though my husband noted that she became more so as the tour progressed. Akrivi had studied the topic at university level so was able to accurately answer questions and had up-to-date knowledge of where research into Knossos and the Minoans is at. The visit was to fulfill a long held wish of mine but my husband was attending willingly but not keenly. However he thoroughly enjoyed the tour He found that Akrivi made the history and myths into a story which he enjoyed and found easy to follow. We would thoroughly recommend this tour.

Great stroll around Heraklion with food stops.
I had a lovely stroll around Heraklion with Ary, who was very knowledgeable. We also had food tasting along the way and that was great. Ary is a lovely woman and a good guide. Very good tour.

    A great tour
This private tour was excellent. I was with my mum and sons (age 4 and 1). I chose a private tour as I was worried that on a group tour we may not keep up, with the children. Our tour guide was knowledgable and gave us a chance to ask lots of questions. We were also given options about what we focused on. In two spots our tour guide gelped us with tge pram. Highly recommended!

Wonderful way to learn more about Greek history, Heraklion and taste some amazing local food!
Wonderful way to learn more about Greek history, Heraklion and taste some amazing local food. The tour only takes a max of 6 people and we ended up just 2 of us with a guide. It was our little private tour!! It was amazing! Our tour guide was born and raised in Heraklion, so she was able to share some amazing stories and take us to some great local places to taste delicious food. We started our day with a cup of coffee and a Greek dessert. We walked around to a local market and got a taste of the freshest Greek vegetables. Then we stopped at a local shop that offered unique spices, infused oils, cosmetics made from an old family recipe and so much more. We visited two beautiful Greek orthodox churches and got to light a candle. We continued to a local, small grocery store where we got a delicious appetizer to take with us made from local products and tasted beautiful Greek wine. We had wonderful conversations along the way! We finished our day with a refreshing drink and a delicious gyro. The whole tour was scheduled to last two hours. However, our tour guide was in no rush and spend good amount of extra time with us. We much appreciated that! Definitely recommend this tour!

Warm, friendly and well-fed tour :)
What a fantastic tour! We were running late due to car problems and we were so pleased that they waited for us. We ended up being the only ones, so we got a private tour which was fantastic. Embarrassingly we can't remember the name of our tour guide (sorry) but she was BRILLIANT! She was so funny, so kind and so engaging - she made us feel incredibly welcome and looked after, plus she had some banter with the locals in the shops and restaurants we visited which was great fun! She really went above and beyond and made the tour special for us! This is a really great whistle-stop tour of Heraklion, where you get to see some of the sites, learn a bit about local culture & traditions as well as sample a lot of local food and hospitality (they really feed you so arrive hungry). There is more of a focus on food than sight seeing but that suited us to be honest. We really enjoyed it and recommend to anyone who wants a light-hearted tour of Heraklion, and who enjoys eating a lot :).

Get the most out of your Knossos visit
Akrivi took us on a private tour, we walked past the long queues and chaos at the entrance, she managed to engage the children (tweens-older teenagers) and hold their interest for the entire time, in perfect English. Fascinating insightful information, just the right amount at each stop. She is clearly highly knowledgeable in her field and conveys all the key information with the right balance.

Our guide Akrivi was so knowledgeable, kind and engaging. She was fantastic and very friendly. The tour was the perfect length with time for questions as we went. The palace itself is beautiful and very well preserved. We had a great time

Knossos ,Phaistos,Malia,Eleutherna , Arkadi monastery and much else..
I had been to Crete twice before our present visit ,in October 2019 , and realise now how little I knew of the island and its ancient history with its importance for Western Civilisation before this quite simply superb tour and exposition from our guide Ioanna Glyptis of travelcrete.tours based in Rethymnon . She entertained and educated us by constant question and answer , the classic didactic style ,which kept us engaged at all times. Ioanna spoke with knowledge and passion bringing alive for us the culture and beliefs of those ancient Minoans and Greeks . I returned home eager to read and learn more about that ancient world to which it seems we owe so much .My advice quite simply is book her now ! you will not be disappointed . Very interesting and value for money
We booked this tour with transfer and so glad we did. We were picked up from our Hotel and transferred to the entrance of the Temple where we met our very knowledgeable guide Ioanna. From here we skipped the queues and met up with the rest of the group. The morning was a good time to the tour as it gets very hot and shade is minimal (take water). From here we embarked on a whirlwind of facts and sights, some of which I knew (do your research), a lot of which I didn’t. This was an excellent tour not only factual but mind provoking and gives a lot of insight into Greek history and dispels a lot of misconceptions of how we perceive that History from afar through selective teachings. When the first part of the tour ended we were taken back to town at the spot where we were to meet our next guide, this gave us an hour of free time to grab some lunch. We arrived on time meet our next guide and off we went. This tour was a lovely way to get to know our way around the city and our very knowledgeable and personable guide Arie, was very informative on the ancient and modern history of Heraklion. We were taken to a lot of fascinating places and beautiful sights. A lovely way to spend a couple of hour, highly recommended. The walking tour ended at the entrance to the Archaeological museum of Heraklion where we once again met up with Ioanna for the final part of the tour. This tour was excellent value and very interesting, well worth the time and money.

Due to Covid a big part of the excavation was closed. This makes no sense because everything is in the open air. Tickets do still cost 15 euro a person. Guide costs 80 euros extra. We spent about one hour. Information on the boards was oké.

This tour is not to be missed! Our guide was "George" (his actual name was a more complicated Greek name, but advised us to call him George :). The knowledge he imparted to us blew my mind! He shared with us the history of the place, an insight into the lives of the people. The age of this palace, the materials used to construct this crystal palace, and the ways in which it has been uncovered were all presented with enthusiasm and drama where appropriate. George made this tour a dynamic step back in time, allowing us all to get a clear picture of the majesty that was before us. He was so great, I wish he could come along our whole trip to provide interesting conversation and moments of laughter. Best guide, best tour! Book it, you'll be happy you did!

Our guide Akrivi provided an incredibly immersive experience. Her ability as a consummate storyteller allowed her to weave the myths in with historical facts and timelines provided an accurate summation of the known findings from the Knossos Labyrinth site. She captivated our attention, answered our questions with a detailed knowledge of the subject matter, and guided us through the site with a timing that was neither rushed nor wasteful. She is passionate and invested in what she does and provided amazing memories for our visit!

The narration and the historical context given was excellent. Despite the huge crowds during peak time, our tour guide managed to keep a low tone of voice and be heard nonetheless. That was very much appreciated. It felt very much personal and I was glad she didn't recount out of date theories while gave a very down to earth vision of the whole site. Absolutely recommend.

Excellent informative guide who, as an Archeologist who worked on the site, was professional and well informed.
We went at 5 pm which was excellent as the heat was diminished and the light was beautiful on the buildings.
We were only a group of two so we were very lucky to have her full attention.

Tour guide, Katarina, was great! It was easy to find her when we arrived, tickets were already purchased, and she was lively and energetic throughout the tour. She handled questions well, and was very careful to talk to everyone and make sure we could all see the pictures she held and the sights she mentioned. Well done!

The tour started unfortunately with confusing information (e-mail) about how to get the ticket and where to meet the guide. In actual fact it was very simple : Just show up 15 min. before the tour starts, walk past the long queue of people waiting to buy tickets and look for a guide near the ticket office/coffee shop, holding up a sign with a list of names ... hopefully yours is on it.

The tour itself was very interesting and the guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting. Amazing site ! Must see, if you can afford 2 hrs in Heraklion (plus 15 min. taxi ride from downtown).

Joanna was our guide and she was absolutely CAPTIVATING!! We have been on many guided tours, but Joanna was the best by far! She explained so much and made it exciting. There were only four of us, because it is a small group tour and the other couple agreed, she was the best guide they had ever had. So so good. I would request her if you can. Her English is also very good.

This is a busy tour. I recommend doing one no later than 9am. We finished by 1030, and the lineup was down the street and it was already very hot out.

Very interesting and a terrific morning. Highly recommend it

An amazing tour that was entirely personalised for my partner & I. We toured the entire palace being able to skip all of the queues (they were VERY long) and our tour guide shared many insightful stories.
Her explanation of the sights were eye-opening and thought-provoking. One of the, if not THE best tour I have had.

I would highly recommend.
