- 1Knossos! What an enchanting place! This is simply a must visit site in Crete if history, culture, and myth are of any interest to you at all. Hire a guide to help bring the place to life. It is harder to get a true sense of the place without the guidance and knowledge of experienced guides. There is signage but it is simplistic and limited only sharing a fraction of what you're actually seeing and why. Knossos, a complex of more than 1500 interlocking rooms, was an astonishing palace, built for a mighty king of the Bronze Age. As you wander through the labyrinthine ruins, you will have the chance to see the original throne of "Minos", the mystifying sanctuaries, the luxurious domestic quarters of the royal family, the once upon a time bursting with Crete’s treasures pantries and the astonishing water-management systems! Skip-the-ticket-line service ! Licensed tour guide for a 90-minutes guided tour in a small group.

- 327martip0 contributionsThe Best private guided tour of KnossosEverything about this tour was perfect. We were given clear instructions as to meeting point, and the hostess was easily found. We were introduced to our private guide, Akredi (sp), who was professional, informative, warm, and clever in dodging the large tour groups nearby. We learned a lot about Knossos and the Minoan civilization. A great day!Written October 6, 2024

- Michael P0 contributionsInformative, interesting and fun walking tour. This is an excellent tour that’s informative and interesting. It’s an excellent way to get to know the city and its culture. We had an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable and flexible. My wife requires Gluten Free food and she went to a lot of trouble to meet her needs. She took us to local shops and cafes where we got to eat local food and drink local wine. The bougatsa at Phyllo Sophies was to die for. All in all an excellent tour and most worthwhile.Written September 24, 2023
- Travelmonkey220 contributionsVery InformativeThe tour lasted for 1 hour 30 mins and it was a little short for my liking. However the tour guide was excellent and the tour was very informative.Written September 23, 2023
- W9920JUbrianj0 contributionsWonderful cultural insight! This tour was exactly what we were looking for! Our guide gave us not just a general historical context of the city, but most importantly an appreciation for the various cultures, people, and events that allow led us to really appreciate the character of Heraklion. She took us to many shops and cafes to taste and see some true and authentic Cretan produce and products from the people of Crete and we were so welcomed by them all! It was a perfect way to experience a broad spectrum of culture in a short time, I hope all our future walking tours are like this one.Written September 8, 2023

We were able to skip the line which was a real bonus. Tour was at 9am so it was great to finish before it got too hot. Tour guide Akrivi was so engaging and knowledgeable and made this a wonderful memorable experience.Written July 11, 2023

- R0ckygirl0 contributionsExcellent tour with engaging and knowledgeable guideWe joined Akrivi for the Knossos Palace Greek Mythology tour. We really enjoyed the tour. Akrivi was engaging and friendly from the start, though my husband noted that she became more so as the tour progressed. Akrivi had studied the topic at university level so was able to accurately answer questions and had up-to-date knowledge of where research into Knossos and the Minoans is at. The visit was to fulfill a long held wish of mine but my husband was attending willingly but not keenly. However he thoroughly enjoyed the tour He found that Akrivi made the history and myths into a story which he enjoyed and found easy to follow. We would thoroughly recommend this tour.Written May 31, 2023
- Fiona M0 contributionsGreat stroll around Heraklion with food stops.I had a lovely stroll around Heraklion with Ary, who was very knowledgeable. We also had food tasting along the way and that was great. Ary is a lovely woman and a good guide. Very good tour.Written December 12, 2022
- SuzyDean0 contributionsA great tourThis private tour was excellent. I was with my mum and sons (age 4 and 1). I chose a private tour as I was worried that on a group tour we may not keep up, with the children. Our tour guide was knowledgable and gave us a chance to ask lots of questions. We were also given options about what we focused on. In two spots our tour guide gelped us with tge pram. Highly recommended!Written October 29, 2022
- Zavinta M0 contributionsWonderful way to learn more about Greek history, Heraklion and taste some amazing local food!Wonderful way to learn more about Greek history, Heraklion and taste some amazing local food. The tour only takes a max of 6 people and we ended up just 2 of us with a guide. It was our little private tour!! It was amazing! Our tour guide was born and raised in Heraklion, so she was able to share some amazing stories and take us to some great local places to taste delicious food. We started our day with a cup of coffee and a Greek dessert. We walked around to a local market and got a taste of the freshest Greek vegetables. Then we stopped at a local shop that offered unique spices, infused oils, cosmetics made from an old family recipe and so much more. We visited two beautiful Greek orthodox churches and got to light a candle. We continued to a local, small grocery store where we got a delicious appetizer to take with us made from local products and tasted beautiful Greek wine. We had wonderful conversations along the way! We finished our day with a refreshing drink and a delicious gyro. The whole tour was scheduled to last two hours. However, our tour guide was in no rush and spend good amount of extra time with us. We much appreciated that! Definitely recommend this tour!Written July 7, 2022

Our guide was Akrivi and she was incredible. She started with mythology and wove it through history. Her knowledge of the Minoan culture is in-depth and fascinating. I highly recommend this tour and Akrivi . There are huge crowds At Knossos and being in a small group with a knowledgeable guide and skipping the long line was worth every penny. Fantastic tour.

Due to Covid a big part of the excavation was closed. This makes no sense because everything is in the open air. Tickets do still cost 15 euro a person. Guide costs 80 euros extra. We spent about one hour. Information on the boards was oké.

This tour is not to be missed! Our guide was "George" (his actual name was a more complicated Greek name, but advised us to call him George :). The knowledge he imparted to us blew my mind! He shared with us the history of the place, an insight into the lives of the people. The age of this palace, the materials used to construct this crystal palace, and the ways in which it has been uncovered were all presented with enthusiasm and drama where appropriate. George made this tour a dynamic step back in time, allowing us all to get a clear picture of the majesty that was before us. He was so great, I wish he could come along our whole trip to provide interesting conversation and moments of laughter. Best guide, best tour! Book it, you'll be happy you did!

Our guide Akrivi provided an incredibly immersive experience. Her ability as a consummate storyteller allowed her to weave the myths in with historical facts and timelines provided an accurate summation of the known findings from the Knossos Labyrinth site. She captivated our attention, answered our questions with a detailed knowledge of the subject matter, and guided us through the site with a timing that was neither rushed nor wasteful. She is passionate and invested in what she does and provided amazing memories for our visit!

Caterina was our guide, she was so full of enthusiasm and love of her job and her Knossos. She is an archeologist and has worked extensively on the excavations here so has more knowledge than any guide book. Knossos is one of those places where you really need a guide to get full value and understanding of what you’re seeing otherwise a lot of what you’ll see won’t really mean much. The tickets were already bought for us so we skipped the big queue, the organised meeting point was simple. We were issued earpieces for listening to Caterina’s commentary which was really good with the volume of people visiting the site. We would highly recommend this guided tour and cannot praise Caterina highly enough, she was great.

The narration and the historical context given was excellent. Despite the huge crowds during peak time, our tour guide managed to keep a low tone of voice and be heard nonetheless. That was very much appreciated. It felt very much personal and I was glad she didn't recount out of date theories while gave a very down to earth vision of the whole site. Absolutely recommend.

Excellent informative guide who, as an Archeologist who worked on the site, was professional and well informed.
We went at 5 pm which was excellent as the heat was diminished and the light was beautiful on the buildings.
We were only a group of two so we were very lucky to have her full attention.

Tour guide, Katarina, was great! It was easy to find her when we arrived, tickets were already purchased, and she was lively and energetic throughout the tour. She handled questions well, and was very careful to talk to everyone and make sure we could all see the pictures she held and the sights she mentioned. Well done!

We had an excellent tour and very informative guide. The option to skip the line was a huge success as it was very busy when we arrived. The guide was very easy to find and was waiting patiently for us. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND using a guide as you would miss 90% of the appeal of the attraction. There is no way you could figure this out on your own. I’m sorry I don’t recall our guides name but she was awesome! She was a walking encyclopedia full of Greek history / mythology.
TIP: Parking here is at a premium! Almost impossible to find a spot when it is busy. Allow yourself enough time to park. Go past the main parking lot and down the hill for a few hundred meters. Lots of available parking there.
