- W2328BDstevenb0 contributionsSantorini- Save your money! The first thing to say is, I wouldn't do this again. Or visit Santorini in high season again. I booked the day trip to Santorini from Rethymno in Crete with visitcrete.com. The first issue was the seating on the ferry. The seats are in two's and you are allocated seat numbers on your tickets. We are a family of four, two adults and two kids, and yet we are seated 1,2,1. The ferry sailing time is approx 2hrs 40 mins. There is a decent cafe on board but I would recommend bringing your own entertainment of some kind. Once at Santorini, you all board coaches, the number of the coach you board, again, pre allocated on your ticket. There were at least 25 coaches waiting. They all set off as they fill up, all heading for the same place, Oia. Once at Oia, they all park up just below the village. Everyone in those 25+ coaches disembarks and follows a pathway up to the village like a trail of ants. The village is packed! Nearly every street is shoulder to shoulder, not helped by the contents of the three cruise ships in the bay. We only had about 1 hour and 30 minutes in Oia and were always aware that we had to be back at the coach for the designated time. We found ourselves trying to find the best places to take photographs amongst everyone else. There was no time to look around the little streets or enjoy the location. We found a place for a quick drink overlooking the caldera. One black coffee, one iced tea, two soft drinks and two ice creams, 50 GBP. Everything seemed to be twice the price of similar items on Crete. Of course, there was one family late back, delaying our departure by 15 mins and hence reducing our time in the next village, Fira. Again, in Fira, the coaches park just outside the village and everyone follows the person in front to the town. This village is a little larger so not quite so crowded. Only 1 hour and 45 minutes here before getting back on the coach for the ride back to the ferry port. The whole visit feels very rushed and not enjoyable. A total of 5 hours 20 mins on the ferry and 3 hours and 15 minutes on Santorini ( not including transfer time and waiting for latecomers to return ), at a cost of over 600GBP for the four of us. OK, so I can say I've been to Santorini, but it wasn't how I imagined it would be. I won't be returning.Written September 18, 2024
- C9215IKsarahm0 contributionsSamaria Gorge Sept 9The bus ride was comfortable, easy, and felt safe. Thomas was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide. There was slight confusion about where to pick us up in the morning, but surprisingly the company called me, waited, and help facilitate a different pick up. We still arrived early before the crowds!Written September 16, 2024

- 21Brookings0 contributionsHighly RecommendExcellent tour guide. Spoke many languages and watched for every one of his quest. Excellent planning for a pleasant day for all ages. Swimming and relaxing on three different beaches, a boat ride over deep aqua clear water with such cliffs of interest. Nice restaurants with water view that know how to serve a large group coming in. But was comfortable and air conditioned well Over all you’ll come home with wonderful memories and a pleasantly tired body.Written September 6, 2024
- DayTrip3016690 contributionsHonest Company! The trip was cancelled because the Gorge closed for seismic assessment. I was very happy to see the change reversed, although i really wanted to go.Written September 6, 2024
- Angela A0 contributionsCharmingThe places we visited were very nice, but it was a bit rushed at Chania and too long at the lake. The bus hardly had any air conditioning and it felt we were in an oven in such a hot day.Written September 5, 2024

- 611sallyd0 contributionsAn enjoyable day tripI recommend this day trip, its a lovely day out. The pick up and drop offs were well organised. The scenery was spectacular driving through the mountains from Chania and there was a stop to take photos. At Damnoni beach we took the boat to Prevali beach with its amazing palm trees. Those who were much fitter than me climbed up paths to the top to see the beatiful views of the coast. After a 2hr stay we went back by boat to Prevali Beach and back on the coach to Platinas. There was an hour stop to eat lunch. I would advise bringing toilet paper for the stop at Prevali beach as it is very busy and it had run out! If I had one criticism about the trip, it would be that I would have liked to stay at Damnoni beach for longer instead of going to Platinas.Written August 31, 2024

We paid $443 for 2 adults. There were other similar tours for $360 and up. The description of the tour and texts with the tour company led me to believe that we were going to Santorini on a smaller 50 person sailing catamaran, but ended up on the huge ferry that holds about 2,200 people. The description said that, and I quote, "taking a refreshing swim at a black sand beach." We only went to the 2 listed villages. We lost our expert guide for the last couple of hours as he was leading the boat tour to the volcanic island which would have cost extra. A total rip off!!!

hello when you boo one tour first you read the informations before booking and second you cannot thats a 50 person sailing catamaran when you see the pictures of the boat witch have limit of persons 800 not 2200 that you say.and the company sea jet changed the return time so the tour have not time to see the black sand it was 18.00 and changed 16.30.and you have free time in thira and you don't need a guide after 30 minutes guiding to join the santorini

You will be served a breathtaking day. The reality is unfortunately different. The day lasts 16 hours. Of which you spend 11 hours in a bus or on a boat that has no air conditioning against the agreement. Rows by the bus, by the boat on the boat and then off the boat. You are dumped with 17000 other tourists in what should be the most beautiful spot on the island. Line up to take a picture. Walking is hardly there. Neither is the view. On to the volcano island where you are promised a tropical natural spa after all the heat waiting etc. Oh yes if you want to pay 20 euros p.p. They didn't say in advance. We take a ramshackle boat to the other side of the harbor. Where I think one by one we are thrown into the brackish water. And be erased after 15 minutes. Back on the ferry 2.5 hours later back on the bus. Back broken and disillusioned. The highlights will undoubtedly be beautiful. If you can see them. However, we have seen a barren, dirty island flooded with tourists and cranky agents who have to regulate traffic. And mainly stuck in the traffic jam of coaches. Once and for all. Such a waste of an expensive trip.

Pros:
Chris (bus 2) - was very nice, funny and knowledgable.
Cons:
The tour felt VERY rushed!
The value for money was quite poor
No inductions given - I had to look at reviews to see which/where the bus was after the port!

Like all beautiful places in the world sadly Santorini is overrun with tourists ,, so the day trip is just long enough to battle the crowds and catch a glimpse of an Island struggling to breath. What was Santorini like before tourists it would be wonderful to have learnt about a unique way of life, it must be awful to be a permanent resident today watching the growth of dirty litter and people.
