About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Michael E0 contributionsAmazing and knowledge rich tour!Tour was a little pricey, but for a history nerd like me, it's totally work it. My guide was extremely knowledgeable and knew the museum inside and out. It left me with so much more knowledge and appreciation for the Minoans than when I came in and I thought I knew a lot! Highly recommend it.Written October 16, 2024
- 372juleenb0 contributionsGreat family experienceWe loved this walking food tour. We were a group of 3, my son, husband and myself. Due to traffic we were 30 min late. We were able to communicate with Ari and it was not a problem! Our son is on the spectrum and loves food !! Ari was so accommodating and caring and did everything to make sure it was a good experience for him. Including ending with gelato🤩 I loved that we stopped at a couple of excellent places that we would never have been able to find on our own. We tried some sweet cheese pastries…that was a new experience for me, and they were delicious. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about the city, food and culture.Written September 22, 2024

THE most entertaining & informational tour we had the entire time in Greece, including the Acropolis in Athens. We would definitely do this tour again. We cannot wait to read & study everything there is to know about this place. Henry was a true inspiration to learn more KNOWLEDGE!Written June 30, 2024

- MuchToSee500 contributionsHighly Recommend Akrivi Chatzigeorgiou as a Private Guide for Knossos and Heraklion Archeological MuseumAkrivi Chatzigeorgiou’s expert guiding services provided us with a well organized and highly informative tour of Knossos and the Herakion Archeological Museum. She is well spoken and provides interesting commentary. She can speak to those with a deep interest in Minoan & Greek history or those looking for an introduction. She knows Knossos and the museum very well, and avoids the crowds, when possible, making the experience much more enjoyable. She provided door to door service for us from our hotel, making the experience seamless. Thank you Akrivi! It was a highlight of our Greek tour. We normally would not spend the extra for a private guide, but this experience was well worth it.Written May 25, 2024
- heathl710 contributionsGood day out and worth a visitFantastic site, bigger than I expected and lots of information available. It was very busy so be prepared to queue . Shops close by too for souvenirs or drinks etc We went by open top tour bus, the open top bus was nice but not worth the extra..could have just used a bus directly to KnossosWritten May 15, 2024
- kyergie0 contributionsBest of Crete in 3 daysMy partner and I did the “Best of Crete 3 days” private tour with Akrivi and Ioannis. They were wonderful hosts with a lot of knowledge and talent in their crafts. We went in late March which is still off-season, and one of the days was a national holiday, but that didn’t matter because We Guide kept all early closures in mind and arranged the days so we would truly get the Best of Crete. Each day we were picked up from our hotel in Heraklion. Akrivi stayed with us the whole time providing expert level knowledge for every corner. She also makes sure you are never hungry. So much delicious food, wine, and coffees. Day 1 = To the East! We took a drive and then a boat ride to the Venetian fortress on Spinalonga. WOW! So neat. Lunch lakeside in Agios Nikolaos. Akrivi made sure we got to taste many many Cretan flavors. Delicious. Then back to Heraklion but not before We Guide gave use tips on where we might like to shop or eat in town. Day 2 = To the West! To Old Town Chania where we did a walking tour and had a lunch fit for a foodie. On the drive back to Heraklion we stopped and walked around Rethymno. Day 3 = Heraklion Day! First to the Palace of Knossos. Then to the Archeological Museum of Heraklion where you will see artifacts found at Knossos. Then a food and history walking tour of Heraklion stopping by local treasures. There was a special “hometown” feeling Akrivi gives on this section of the tour. To be honest, when we were booking this tour we thought it was a bit expensive but after experiencing the high quality and personalized service from We Guide it is definitely worth the price. A very special way to traverse the North side of the island and experience local specialties. It’s no wonder Crete is a popular place and we are so thankful to Akrivi, Ioannis, and We Guide for creating memories with us.Written March 29, 2024
- poly2170 contributionsKnossos PalaceThis 1.5 hour tour was one of the most interesting we have ever done. Our guide Katerina who is an archeologist and excavator absolutely knows her history of Knossos and Greek history in general. She shared the information comprehensively and delivered it an entertaining manner. Her enthusiasm for Knossos was infectious. The tour exceeded our expectation and has left us with a greater appreciation of Knossos and the Minoan civilisation. Thank you Katerina.Written August 26, 2023
- 509rodolfoc0 contributionsAmazing tourWe took a tour whith Akrivi Chatzigeorgiou and it was one of the best guided tours that I’ve ever done. We learned a lot of mythology and it’s relation with history and Cretan culture. She is a very relatable and friendly person, with a good sense of humor.Written August 19, 2023

- urosg7810 contributionsGreat addition to the visit of Knosos palaceWe first went to visit the Knosos palace where we had a great time and then went to the museum (different days) and to our surprise our guide was again Giorgos and since he remembered us from a couple of days ago from Knosos palace we had great visit to the museum as he filled in the gaps of information and things to see which could not be seen in the palace and we did not just receive repeat information… We had a really great time and I think I can say that we finished our visit not just as customers but as friends.Written July 18, 2023
- janetlL6761YE0 contributionsWonderful visit to KnossosOur guide George was fantastic! He took us to both the palace as well as the museum. He was well prepare in all aspects, including how to avoid too much sun at the palace. I highly recommend this tour. I would’ve missed a lot trying to go without a guide.Written July 7, 2023
- MaryGrace_120 contributionsKnossis Palace and Archtectural Museum tour in CreteThe tour of the Knossis Palace and the Architectural Museum in Heraklion, Crete, Greece was incredible. An archeologist led our tour and she brought everything to life. It was interesting to be with someone who had the background and knowledge she brought to the tour. I regret I do not have her name, but it was a Viator tour. I was sorry we had to arrange our own transport as we were about 1 hour away, but it was well worth the trip.Written June 20, 2023

We visited here after a visit to the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Most of these items were from the same time period of 1700 -1475 BC. Just unbelievable viewing item that were so old and in such pristine condition.

Thank you so much !!!
The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion provides a unique opportunity for the visitor to marvel at the findings of the first of civilisation in Europe, the Minoan civilisation.
The Heraklion Archaeological Museum is one of the largest and most important museums in Greece, and among the most important museums in Europe. It houses representative artefacts from all the periods of Cretan prehistory and history, covering a chronological span of over 5,500 years from the Neolithic period to Roman times. The singularly important Minoan collection contains unique examples of Minoan art, many of them true masterpieces. The Heraklion Museum is rightly considered as the museum of Minoan culture par excellence worldwide.
The museum, located in the town center, was built between 1937 and 1940 by architect Patroklos Karantinos on a site previously occupied by the Roman Catholic monastery of Saint-Francis which was destroyed by earthquake in 1856. The museum’s antiseismic building is an important example of modernist architecture and was awarded a Bauhaus commendation. The colours and construction materials, such as the veined polychrome marbles, recall certain Minoan wall-paintings which imitate marble revetment. The two-storeyed building has 27 galleries, a gallery for audio-visual displays, extensive modern laboratories, a cloakroom, a cafeteria and a museum shop that sells museum copies, books, postcards and slides.
