Absolutely incredible! It is quite a long day out but the train ride cuts through some truly beautiful Greek countryside and the trains are much more comfortable, timely and spacious than the ones in the UK. Once we were on the tour our guide Kate was absolutely exceptional, I won’t spoil what she has to say but she has a truly intimate knowledge of the hermit caves that other tour guides cannot possibly have - we feel extremely lucky to have been in her capable hands. The monasteries can be quite busy inside with lots of tourists in the high season but I promise it’s more than worth it. The views are beyond words and the history and lives of the monks is astonishing. I cannot recommend this trip enough and I feel I owe Kate (and our driver Giorgios) a massive thank you! You won’t see anything like this anywhere else!

We had a great visit and would recommend this tour however prepare for a few things. First of all the train trip is 4 hours one way and there was no food served on the train so be prepared. Once we arrived someone was waiting for us and knew that we had not eaten therefore had a little surprise stop at a small family run restaurant that had amazingly good freshly cooked food for us to purchase. We had a local guide who was born and raised in the area and she did an amazing job explaining all the monasteries that we visited along with some great details about the hermit priests that live in the area. The second thing to be prepared for is how strenuous the walks are to the monastery. One in particular had a very steep incline to reach the top and that was our second out of four monasteries that we visited. Unfortunately this left us a bit tired and we ended up not walking up to the fourth monastery. The views are amazing and the monasteries were a treat to visit.

The train system was quite unorganized and we were confused during the transport to Meteora. When we arrived we had lunch which was delicious. You would definitely need to have some cash on hand to enter the monasteries and make sure you were dressed modestly. There is a lot of walking up and down steps so use a lot of caution. Other than that, it was a great and informative trip and the photo opportunities were endless.

We were in a tour bus with 50 other people during a pandemic, not a minibus as advertised. We immediately went to lunch at a restaurant arranged by our guide with pre-fixed meals. We did not see the hermit caves as advertised. We were on our own to tour the monasteries but noticed other guides giving actual tours inside. The area is beautiful but it’s a long 4 hour train trip both ways.

The train ride was very long (4 hours each way), and I would definitely recommend getting the first class / class A tickets. You spend about 4 hours exploring 3 different monastaries. Ladies beware that you must cover your shoulders and knees so dress accordingly. Even men need to be wearing longer pants, shorts above the knee don't work for the last monastary. The sights are very amazing and unique however making the trip worth it overall. Lots of stops for photos.

This is a wonderful excursion — out of the city, gorgeous landscape, unbelievable history and construction, please note, there are many stairs to climb, but it is organized in intervals so you have time to recover. Also, it is a very long day four hours on the train each way. Take some food and water on the train because there is nothing available. The bus meets you at the train and immediately goes to a nice lunch place ‘cafeteria with great views. Our guide, Maria, was charming full of stories and very knowledgeable. We learned a great deal and are so glad we went- even on a drizzling day it was amazing.

My husband and I enjoyed this tour so much! We were planning on renting a car and driving to Meteora but we are grateful that we changed our plans and booked this tour instead. They provided us with our train tickets a day before and gave clear directions on how to get to the train. We enjoyed the train ride both ways. The train is very easy to follow, get on the train, find your assigned seats and enjoy the views or take a nap during the ride. Once we arrived, they were waiting for us with a bus and they took us to get lunch at a local restaurant. Looks like all the buses go to the same location, food was great and service was fast. After that, we spent the rest of the day touring the different monasteries. Our guide was amazing and shared lots of insights of the town and history of the monasteries. They stopped at many locations to get beautiful photos and take in the scenery.

I arrived to Greece the night before my tour and I hesitated to go, but decided to go and I am so glad I went because there was so much history and the views were incredible. The bus ride is quite long so make sure you take something to entertain yourself. Maria was such an incredible tour guide and she actually went out of her way to speak to some people in Spanish and Greek plus English. She is truly incredible and this company is beyond lucky to have her. If you are debating whether you should go or not don’t think about it and go!!

Great trip but the train was late more then 1hr and did not get 1st class seats on the train which we paid for.
The views were magnificent and a tour guide was great she was able to Make up the time lost due to the train being.
I found out that the train is late a lot.
So my suggestion to the company is skip the train and organize a bus tour instead.

Our tour guide Maria and bus driver Vasilious were wonderful. Lots of information and history from Maria and professional driving ability from Vasilious. The area was crowded so touring took a bit longer. But all 100% worth it! Meteora is breathtaking! Take this tour to see this amazing place!
A few tips: Bring a phone charger if taking pictures with your phone; entrance fees to Monasteries are not included but cost is minimal; some monasteries require knee length or longer dress for women; the train ride from Athens is 4+ hours so a phone charger plus adaptor, snacks, etc. are a great idea.
