About
Get an introduction to Greek food that books and videos simply can’t match on this small-group cooking class. Your professional instructor helps you prepare a feast of Greek family-style fare: think roasted lamb, Greek salad, and phyllo pastry pies. Enjoy a glass of raki, Greece’s signature spirit, on arrival, and meze nibbles as you work, then join your group for dinner with a glass of wine.

Highlights
  • Create four appetizers and one main course with a veteran instructor
  • Get to know fellow travelers over a leisurely dinner
  • Sip raki and a glass of wine: Additional drinks available at your expense
What to expect
  • Make your own way to central Athens, where you join up with your host and walk over to a traditional Greek taverna. Meet your chef inside and begin the class with a glass of raki (twice-distilled Greek spirit) while chatting with your group mates. The Greek diet is a classic example of Mediterranean cuisine, based on colorful foods from both land and sea. Dive right into the world of Greek cuisine with your chef, and learn about hearty stews, fresh shellfish and typical flavorings such as cinnamon, oregano, and lemon. Prepare an authentic meal under the guidance of your instructor, creating four appetizers and one main course, with plenty of fresh spices and herbs. While recipes tend to vary, expect to learn local favorites such as Greek salad, tzatziki, melitazanopitakia (eggplant pies), and roasted lamb. After all of your hard work, sit down with your group to savor each of your dishes. Pair your menu with a complimentary glass of wine or a soft drink and chat with your fellow chefs while you eat. Your cooking class will conclude after the meal.

My 15 year old daughter and I had to leave Mom at home due to some regular illness after arriving in Athens. Very easy and pleasant walk from the hotel and also back later in the dark. After passing the protocols we went in to meet Sophia and Nicoletta. There were only the two of us in the class due to the season and the protocols for travelers which is most excellent in terms of class size.
Sophia is a master cook (with a Greek grandma ;--) who makes sure you participate and feel comfortable preparing the dishes. She also taught Mariia about 5 or 6 Greek phrases to use in everyday life. Both Sophia and Nicoletta are positive, encouraging, and have a love of cooking. Oh, I also tried a couple different glasses of Greek red wine which was delicious but also was accompanied by a mini wine lesson from the chief! For anyone who is not sure...yes, there is excellent Greek wine.

We were led by the highly entertaining and skilled Sofia (and her sidekick Nicoletta) in an action-packed 4 hours of cooking delicious Greek food. Apart from doling out clear instructions, Sofia gave care to share personal stories of the dishes and histories of the ingredients. I feel like I learned so much behind each individual piece of even a Greek Salad- no bite will ever be taken for granted!

We did this class on our last day in Greece and it was a great way to end the trip. Sophia, the instructor, was awesome. She was personable and shared so much more than just recipes with us. The small class size made it easy to do a little bit of everything and to get to know everyone. Would highly recommend taking this class, definitely a top highlight of our trip.

One of the greatest cooking experiences . Nice recipes and we had fun with our group and the tutor Sofia was most lovely, kind, wonderful and helpful. The best part was eating what we made with great view of the acropolis.I strongly recommend it.

Last week we participated in the cooking class with Rena. The class was located in a very cool neighborhood with a view of the Acropolis. We had a great time and loved Rena. She taught us so much about Greek cooking, history of food and culture. We then had a lovely dinner with her eating what we cooked. She was wonderful.

My family and I had the absolute pleasure of enjoying this excellent cooking class yesterday evening with our new friends from England, Bahrain, and Colorado. Rena is a fantastic, engaging, and patient teacher, and she made the class equally enjoyable for my 7-year-old (she put him in charge of chopping). She taught us how to make roasted lamb and potatoes, spinach and cheese pie (spanakotiropita), zucchini balls, stuffed grape leaves (dolmadakia), yogurt sauce (tzatziki), and a lemon-yogurt kind-of-mousse dessert. Everything was delicious, and I also had my fill of Malagousia along the way. My only regret is that I accidentally left the recipe book behind! If you have the opportunity, take this class!

Dear Justin, thank you so much for this heartwarming review! We are so happy that you fully enjoyed your cooking class, and that your son liked it too! Yes, Rena is an amazing chef, a wonderful instructor, while she is really great with children too! We love it that you really liked the menu. The purpose of this class is to share our passion for the Greek cuisine with people from all over the world, and we are very pleased you enjoyed both the process and the outcome! And don't worry about forgetting the recipes, they must already be in your inbox! Enjoy your newly acquired skills, and we hope to welcome you again in Athens!
