About
It is, of course, possible to explore the ruins of the Acropolis independently. But without an understanding of ancient Greek religion, culture, and history, it can be tough to tell exactly what you’re looking at—let alone what it all means. This guided walking tour takes the confusion out of the Acropolis and leaves you free to continue exploring once you’re done.

  • See the Theatre of Dionysus, Parthenon, and the Temple of Athena Nike (entrance at your expense)
  • Learn about ancient Greek history, mythology, drama, and lifestyles
  • Soak up sweeping views from the summit as you discover surrounding sights
What to expect
  • Greet your guide in Central Athens and then stroll to the Acropolis, pay your entrance fee, and head inside. Enter through the south side, stopping at the Theatre of Dionysus and the Sanctuary of Dionysus. Inside the ancient citadel, ascend the sacred hill. Your guide will explain the names and meaning of sights like the Parthenon, with its missing marbles; the Temple of Athena Nike; the Erechtheion; and the Propylaea gateway.  At the summit, savor sweeping views of the modern city as your guide points out surrounding monuments, including Areopagus hill and the ancient agora, a meeting place that was once the beating heart of ancient Athens. The tour concludes here, leaving you free to explore at your leisure or make your own way back to your hotel.

Guided Acropolis tour.
The tour was led by Katerina. A lovely lady with a good sense of humour and clearly very knowledgeable. Katerina was able to answer all the questions we had.

Inspiring and enlightening
The tour was very enlightening and interesting. Sissy helped us to relate to the way of life that the Greeks had and somehow it was also inspiring. Good knowledge, a lot of fun and very well organized.

Excellent Acropolis Tour!
The Acropolis tour with our guide Sissy was excellent. We have picked up so much interesting things about the Pantheon and the history of place. We also enjoyed the walk into the old-town with culinary specialties to taste. We can truly recommend this tour and our knowledgable guide.

Definitely worth doing with a guide
Just wanted to send a positive review for Natasha who we toured the acropolis with on Tuesday 7 September (1630)

Natasha was really knowledgeable and took time to answer our many questions!
We had a combination ticket and the flexibility worked really well - we definitely benefitted from having an expert to help with the history.

Well organised and safe in covid times.
We had a group of 6 which was perfect.

Thanks for making our 3 days in Athens so memorable.

Understand the stones
We love our guide Despina. She gave us a great historical frame not just for Acropoli, but for Athens and Greece in general. Far beyond dates Despina gave us clues to understand the stones.

Nice tour, we’ll worth the price if you seek to have a better understanding of the history of the Acropolis
Dora was very knowledgeable and provided personal insight, which enhanced the explication of the Acropolis’ history. We took the 8:30am tour and although Dora stopped often in shady spots, as we made it up the hill, the shade was not as prevalent… If you visit during the summer months, be prepared for the heat. Regardless, the Acropolis is magical from ever view, day and night! Thank you Dora!

Be prepared to not skip any lines
Aug 2021
If you are looking for a skip the line tour, skip this tour. The guide was very knowledgeable, but ultimately, the tour went over time due to us constantly stopping.

First, we stopped so we could accommodate people who didn't buy tickets or water, which was very frustrating. We honestly would have been in quicker if we had just waited in line and gone up ourselves.

The tour itself is designed for someone who wants a great deal of information about Athens, not just the Acropolis. We had been in Athens for several days, so for us, it felt like a repeat of information we had already had on other tours.

The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly, but it was frustrating that we were constantly stopping in very crowded places to hear information not necessarily related to the Acropolis.

This is definitely a tour for those who want all that information. You won't get to the top until about ten minutes until the technical end of the tour.

At the end of the day, if you want a real deep dive into the history of the Acropolis, this is the tour for you. Do not expect to skip any lines. You will be at the mercy of the preparedness of your group.
