What to Expect

Day 1: Starting and discovering the village

Stop At: Mount Smolikas, Kontsika 12345 Greece
Pournia is historically one of the oldest settlements in the whole area. Previously in the area of

today's village there were three settlements, Staritsa, Selos, and Anargyroi. The village was named after the first settlement, because of the wheat fields that lay around it. In 1928 it was renamed Pournia because it was considered that the word Staritsiani was foreign and in particular Slavic. The name Pournia was borrowed from the location west of the village and it means a place with many flower beds, which in the village are called pournies. It is not known when Purnia was first founded. But there is no doubt that it is the birthplace of another village, called "Trapia" (from the word lightning). This was built on the site of today's Trap. Today the residents of Pournia are scarce and mainly deal with logging.
In the evening at the guest house, we will enjoy traditional dishes of Epirus Land with traditional local tsipouro and local delicacies.

Day 2: Smolikas Dragon Lake at 2250m - Peak Geros at 2631m.

Stop At: Mount Smolikas, Kontsika 12345 Greece
Our route:

Our path starts through the village, continues on gentle slopes, crosses a beautiful delicate river and ends in a unique landscape where alternate forests of firs, oaks and black pine (robola). On this side of the mountain, we can find one of the herds of wild horses found in the Smolikas massif. At the beginning of the route, about 1 hour from its starting point, we will find a source of drinking water. About 2.5 hours drive from the starting point we enter the subalpine zone. We cross beautiful streams that end up on the banks of the Sarantaporos and finally overlook the alpine field of Smolikas, with the cone of the summit projecting in front of us. There we find the last source of drinking water. In half an hour we reach Drakolimni of Smolikas, at an altitude of 2160 meters, where the first group's route ends. On its shore, we can see the Alpine Tritons, a unique specimen of alpine fauna living there since the Ice Age. Characteristic of the species is that in the winter with the alpine lake freezing, the Tritons suspend all their biological functions, that is, they almost die ... to rebuild them by melting the ice, in the Spring !!! Their name in the folk dialect is '' Dragons '' - hence the name '' Drakolimni ''. !! From the same location, we also see the imposing Mount Gamla on one side and across the entire Grammos mountain range, which is the natural border between Greece and Albania. The first group, after resting, will return to Agia Paraskevi village.

Walking time to Dragon Lake with return 5.5 h- 6h.

Degree of difficulty: Medium, a good physical condition needed.

The summit team will continue for an additional 1 hour to the summit of Smolikas with a height of 2631m. From there the view really leaves you breathless !!! Endless spruce and pine forests grow from the subalpine zone to the imaginary boundary of the Sarantaporo River and across its mountain range. From there we also see panoramic mountains across Albania, Valia Calda and part of the Pindos Mountains. After resting and enjoying the view with a quick snack we will return from the same path back to Ag. Paraskevi.

Walking time to the top and back overall 8h.

Degree of difficulty B +

The route to the top has no technical difficulties and can be followed by a climber in very good physical condition.
Duration: 8 hours

• Breakfast
Accommodation included: Two-bed quadruple rooms in the traditional guesthouse Peristero or double rooms in the traditional guesthouse Kerasovo

Day 3: Aoos Gorge - Moni Stomiou

Stop At: Vikos – Aoos National Park, Ioannina Greece
On Monday we leave our guesthouses and head to Konitsa where we will hike along the Aoos river gorge in a gorge of stunning beauty. Our route takes us along the imposing Aoos River with its crystal clear waters reflecting the surrounding verdant banks !!! We are in a literal paradise of wildlife that the visitor can admire every inch of land he touches !!! Our route ends at Stomio Monastery, a monastery in the middle of the Aoos ravine in a unique natural setting. After resting and visiting the monastery, we return through the same path to the arched bridge of Konitsa where our bus will be waiting for us. In Konitsa we will have a unique meal in the traditional taverns of the historic city and at noon we will depart for Athens where we are expected to be between 22: 00 - 23: 00 in the evening.
