The Serralves Museum is beautiful for modern art lovers, with exhibits changing frequently that encourage return visits. The new Juan Miró exhibit in the Villa building is quite simply stunning.

The gardens are lovely and worth a visit in themselves; I wonder if separate outdoor educational outreach programs are available for urban youth.

Two suggestions for improvement, Visitors used to be able to walk down through the large park area and leave from an exit there, which is now closed. It's quite a long walk back up to the museum exit; perhaps the Foundation should reconsider its decision to close the park exit.

Also, as other reviewers have noted, 20 euros is a very steep entrance fee. It should be lowered to encourage more to visit the landmark museum.

We enjoyed the gardens and the sculptures in it and especially the Tree Top Trail which is a high boardwalk that is really over the tree tops. The few permanent exhibitions in the museum are cool. However, the current contemporary exhibition - The Roving Gaze - was a bit much. The artist has electric cords, building materials, heating ducts, stuffed animals, etc etc glued or attached to display boards. At first it's interesting, but 2 floors of the same got to be rather boring. be sure that your ticket includes the Tree Top Trail. We did not visit the art deco mansion.

We moved the grounds. Contemporary art may be a bit off putting. In fact, it may be beyond comprehension. But, the building is interesting and the grounds are a pleasure to explore.

The original house is a beautiful art deco structure with beautiful gardens. We had pastry and coffee at the Tea House and walked the Tree Walk through the canopy of many interesting trees.

Worth a visit.

We went to see the Ai WeiWei exhibit, the treetop walk, the grounds and the house. The house was closed for remodeling inside, which we were not told when we bought our tickets. HOWEVER, the Ai WeiWei exhibit was quite diverse and engaging. I am the kind of modern art viewer that yearns for an informative title and explanation on each piece. Without those hints, I come up with some pretty strange concepts of what the artist meant to convey such as, “Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road” and “Donkey Henge.” I was relieved that the item in Ai’s lap in the giant photo of him amid broken and hollowed out watermelons was just a banana. There were Ai’s paintings, photos, sculptures, films, sound, light, and then his tree exhibit down at the end of the park, but the hilly grounds offered a great view of it from the treetop walk. The grounds were beautiful with towering trees, water garden, parterres, herbs, sculptures, the salmon pink house…it was extensive and varied. We ate outdoors at their upstairs restaurant buffet, but the wind was whipping pretty hard. The buffet was varied and Portuguese (what else?) with simple and tasty salad and dessert bars. With water and no wine it was 28€ for the two of us. Nobody else left any kind of tip at the tables, but there was a tip jar at the register. Two and a half hours with some wanders about the museum shops.
It was 20€ for all activities, but only 10€ for me as an “old person.” It was a lot of walking, but I really enjoyed it. If you don’t mind feeling your brain explode, it is well worth the full amount.

I love contemporary art so when you make it interactive, it becomes even better ! The expositions are not only beautiful but most of them address an issue that relevant for our society. For example, the movement Black Lives Matter and deforestation. These are spread all over the museum between expositions indoors and outdoors and in different buildings. We got there about 2 hours before it closed and there were a couple things we were not able to do so I recommend putting aside around 3 hours so that you can enjoy it to the fullest. It's 100% worth it

Magnificient eyesight in the most beautiful breath of nature, green-circular economy and sustainability. Walking through the paths and observing the sounds of a living nature, cared of and cheered by a soft humane touch.... walking over the trees, smelling the scent of the flowers and getting connected with the animals all around us ... something to remember for ever and an experience we suggest to do ... from the heart of the city into the womb of mother nature

We could see why the President of Portugal chose this venue to entertain his Bulgarian counterpart and the added bonus of a cheery wave from 2 metres unexpectedly added to our experience. Topping even the President was the wonderful lady in the gift shop who solved 2 pressing problems on our travels - charging our iPhone and selling us some bargain bright socks after an unanticipated immersion in the Atlantic. The grounds were stunning, the treetop walk a delight and the museum generously laid out, well curated and not overwhelming. Bravo!

The yellow tourist bus stops right outside and it’s worth getting off here. The gardens (which include a treetop walk and some interesting sculptures) are accessible, with good gravel paths and clear signposting. An Art Deco villa and a House of Cinema are two other features. The museum itself has a standing collection and also hosts temporary exhibitions. There is a cafe and a gift shop. Allow an hour or two to ramble around then head back for the next yellow bus, which arrive very half hour on a regular schedule.

Il you love contemporary art you will find it at its highest standards. The same if you love nature. The building is beautiful, by Alvaro Siza. The Art Deco villa is beautiful as well. You can spend the all day visiting exhibitions, garden, outdoor and indoor activities for families. Cafe and restaurant inside. Easy to reach by bus. Cool

The price is ridiculous for what it is. Main exhibition was quite sad and poorly curated. On top of that, part of the of the museum is closed (one of the exhibitions was under renovation) and also the Casa de Serralves is closed (another building apart from the main one)... NO price adjustment.

Quite sad and expensive.
