From start to finish, everything was handled with remarkable professionalism. Our driver, Marcia, was punctual, safety-focused, and stayed with the locked van to protect our belongings. Our guide, Carmo, was a delight, radiating warmth and enthusiasm. She offered fascinating insights, welcomed questions, and delivered clear instructions with humour. Her excellent translation skills helped us grasp the historical significance of both Guimarães’s splendid old centre and Bom Jesus. The itinerary perfectly balanced history & free time; Guimarães’s medieval castle and Braga’s cathedral stoodout as highlights. The tour’s execution was seamless—microphone system, ticketing, & scheduling all ran smoothly without ever feeling rushed. Both Marcia and Carmo demonstrated top-tier professionalism and genuine care, ensuring a safe, comfortable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Living Tours to anyone eager to explore northern Portugal’s charm & history, & I’d happily send my own family along.

I recently took a tour of Braga and Guimaraes, and it was an unforgettable experience! Both cities are rich in history, culture, and charm. Braga, with its beautiful mix of baroque architecture and religious landmarks like the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, offers a serene yet captivating atmosphere. The views from the sanctuary are absolutely breathtaking!
Guimaraes, often referred to as the "birthplace of Portugal," is equally impressive. The medieval streets, castles, and the stunning Palace of the Dukes of Braganza create a picturesque setting that transports you back in time. The historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is filled with vibrant squares and narrow alleys that make for a lovely walk.
The tour itself was well-organized, and the guide was incredibly knowledgeable, providing fascinating insights into the history and significance of each location. The pace was perfect, allowing us to enjoy both cities without feeling rushed. If you're a lover of history and scenic beauty, I highly recommend this tour—it's an exceptional way to discover two of Portugal's most captivating cities.

I did the Braga + Guimarães tour with my family (4 adults and a 2.5 year old baby) and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in history and religion. The guide David and the driver João were not only attentive but also explained in detail the main landmarks of the places, often with supporting maps, engravings, etc. It is clear that David has a deep knowledge of History, allowing us to delve into the origins of Portugal.

Time has not let us enjoy how beautiful Braga and Guimaraes are. We had very little free time to be able to walk quietly, we couldn't go far away. In Braga we didn't have the Portuguese lunch, we preferred to walk around and eat something at our own pace and pleasure. In Guimaraes I didn't think it was good that they didn't warn that the castle was under construction, the entrance fee was included in the tour so I don't really know how they managed that money. It was going in and out, since it was all scaffolded and you couldn't go to any area or climb the towers. Here we had about 25 minutes of free time running around, we went to the Santo Antonio sweet shop to try the typical sweets and take a photo on the wall "aqui nasceu portugal". Out of courtesy they gave us a bottle of water! At 4:40 p.m. we headed to Porto. Rafael has been a very good guide, explaining all kinds of details and answering our questions, lovely! And our driver Joao, despite the rain and traffic, went very well and kept the hours.

Great tour! Went to Bom Jesus do Monte first on top of the mountain overlooking the city which was great! Note that the funicular is interesting to see filling out with water but you can't take it on the tour but there is no reason to as you are already on top of the mountain... Then went to the main cathedral of Braga and then had a couple hours free time to walk around and have lunch which was nice. Then drove 30 minutes to Guimaraes. Went to the old fortress which is just a 10 minute walk around the top of the walls but with. Nice views. Then a walking tour around the city and some free time. I thought the free time was too little. We left at 345 but we could leave 415 and still be back home before 5pm which would still be much earlier than my tours the last 2 days with the same company... In my free time I ran back and paid 5 euros to run through the Paco do Duques de Braganca or Braganca Palace.. this was a palace furnished as it would have been hundreds of years ago with exquisite art and tapestries...it was my favorite thing all day easily... If I was running the company I would include it in the tour and increase the price 5 euros but at least the guides should tell you it is fantastic and give you enough time to see it on your own if you like..

We went to visit both Braga and Guimaraēs. The guide was super nice and funny. In Braga, we visited the Jesus sanctuary, the cathedral, and the old city. The guide walked us through each part of the city, stopping and giving us a lot of explanation on the history and small anecdotes. We also had some free time to take a coffee or walk through the city to enjoy the views. The city was splendid. In Guimaraēs, we visited the castle, the old city and stopped in a few points to admire the monuments.
I would recommend this trip 100%, we learned a lot on the history of Portugal and the guide was amazing.

A good tour with a friendly guide like Ana, attentive and with good points of humor. He knew how to amalgamate the group of about 50 people (I think all or mostly Spanish), make us have a good time and let us know some curiosities about the cities visited.
However, some indications were missing to get into the center of the city of Braga, which we had to discover on our own. Also, some architectural details about the Church of San Gualter in Guimaraes, which should be visited in a group due to its uniqueness and artistic importance (it houses his relics and the mummy of a martyr inside, as well as a series of "holy steps", hence its name also as Church of Consolation and the Holy Steps). Apparently, at the beginning of the 13th century, Saint Francis of Assisi sent the monk Gualter to Portugal to establish the Franciscan order there. Today, San Gualter is the patron saint of Guimaraes and its church has fabulous gardens at the entrance.
A well attended tour but which lacked important architectural and historical details about the buildings visited. Something that could be remedied by the guide who, together with the driver, knew how to pace the group and their needs.

Carlos was very knowledgeable and informative. Unfortunately, we felt that the time allocated at each stop wasn’t balanced properly. We were rushed at the best stop of the day, Bom Jesus. We didn’t have time to walk to the bottom of the steps and were told that they wouldn’t run the funicular unless they could fill it. That was very disappointing. We had too much spare time at a garden, everyone was just waiting around. To top it off, after driving 20 min away from Braga, we had to go back because 2 people didn’t make it on the bus. That meant sitting on the bus an extra 40 minutes. Marcia was a very skilled driver who did her best to go back quickly so we wouldn’t miss out on the rest of the tour but time had to be caught up somehow so again we were rushed in Guimares which didn’t allow much time to take pictures and explore on our own.

This is an excellent bus tour. The guide Paulo was very informative giving great insights into the history of Braga and Guimaraes. We had the meal option and this too was very good. There was sufficient time to explore both Braga and Guimaraes with Paulo informing everyone of the places of interest. This tour was great value for money as it is both a bus tour and walking tour with Paulo. Also the driver Antonio was brilliant taking great care on the mountain roads and made us feel very safe. I would highly recommend this Day Trip

Hi we are arriving in Porto on a river cruise so where would be the best pick up point for us please?
Written July 21, 2022
It is operational and but is not covered in the tour. The guide made us the offer - just that you have to wait till the time in the hour when they operate it. You have enough own time to do Bom Jesus and take the furnicular down. In fact, the walk down is a bit long and has slippery slopes. Furnicular cuts the time and ends up very close to where the tour bus is usually parked.
