When the guide picked me up in the morning, I was skeptic about her and the other people on the tour, it had rained the whole day before and that morning was foggy. I even considered making some excuse to not go after entering the car and when we were still on our way out of the city. I couldn't have been more wrong. This turned out to be one of the best days of my life. Somehow the group clicked and got along much better than I could have ever imagined. Early in the tour we were singing and dancing outside one of the vineyards and the farmer was smiling widely and recording us on his phone. Everything we tasted was delicious, the wine and the food. Our guide, Sara, was the best I've ever met because she synced with the energy of the group and was so easy-going. On the way to our first stop she shared some bits of information with us but at one point she said: "Well, I'm not going to tire you with too much talking, we have a long day ahead". Exactly how it should be, balance between talking and allowing people space to process and take in the scenery as well.

We were a group of seven who went on the Douro Valley wine tasting and lunch tour, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Porto. The tour was very well-planned and organized, and while it was a long day, it was also filled with fun and unforgettable experiences. Our guide, Rodrigo Costa, was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive, and he made an already amazing experience even better with his great historical insight into Porto, Portugal, and the valley.

The wineries we visited were stunning, and the wines were delicious. We were pleasantly surprised by the extensive and delicious lunch that was provided as part of the tour. The boat ride down the river was breathtaking and offered some of the most beautiful views we had ever seen. Additionally, Rodrigo took us to two viewpoints where we could take some great pictures.

On our way back to our Airbnb, Rodrigo even dropped me off close to the Louis 1st bridge so I could see the sunset - it was a truly thoughtful gesture.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience on this tour, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Porto. It's definitely worth the money and time invested.

Cool Tours of Porto communicated so well from the time of booking. Bruno picked us up on time with a big smile and sense of humor that we enjoyed. We could tell that he genuinely loved sharing the family owned vineyards with us. We got to see small chapels on the estates, had a beautiful lunch under the cherry trees, and tasted many delicious special port wines. We felt very safe in the van while he drove and he shared just the right amount of information along the ride. We opted out of the boat ride portion of the tour, so we wandered around Pinhão and enjoyed a cup of coffee and cake at a local shop. The views of the Douro Valley are spectacular at each stop and Bruno makes this tour worth every penny!

The Douro Valley is beautiful so it makes for a wonderful day. I was disappointed about the boat tour—felt kind of gypped. First, the tour on a “traditional boat” was essentially a long speed boat/pontoon like boat. There WERE other “traditional” brown boats, but guess this tour didn’t go on them. People were packed next to each other because of the rain and zero commentary was made. You basically just sit and float.

Van commentary was OK, but sitting in the back sucked because you can’t hear anything. Guide seemed very stressed all day, had disjointed commentary, and felt I was being treated like a child.

Guides at wineries were awesome. Had higher expectations for this trip given all the glowing reviews.

Perhaps we are spoiled but this was not as expected. The tour was nice, our guide Maria was absolutely incredible and extremely knowledgeable however there was not a lot of value for the 100/120+ euros per person.

Pickup was very smooth, lovely van that was clean and had AC. Travel to the valley was very scenic and we arrived at a local winery. We each had a glass of red, a white and a port and took about 30 minutes walking inside at the winery. Nothing special at all. We then left to Pinhao for the boat cruise. Very underwhelming but beautiful views none the less. I was hoping to be able to walk around Pinhao for a bit but we left right away to another winery for lunch.

This was unfortunately another disappointment. As many others have written it was extremely underwhelming - average cheese, olives, bread and 1 veal tapa and 1 pork tapa each. A glass of red, a white port and a red port after w a small slice of cake. Worst of all we ate inside. I know it was hot but this winery had the most stunning views ever and we didn’t even get to appreciate it.

Then we left back to Porto … that’s it. It’s tough because nothing was bad per say, just very poor value. I would suggest a much better lunch and allowing more of a tour of Pinhao because I did enjoy the boat but sad that it replaced walking around the village. It’s too bad but it is what it is!

Dear sir, First of all I would like to thank you for taking some of your time to give us your feedback, as only this will surely help us to improve. Thank you for your kind words regarding Maria, and I will make sure that she will get them. Regarding the points that you mentioned has less positive in the tour I will explain our perspective: The morning tasting is in fact programmed to take between 30 to 45 minutes depending on the group, and the tasting consists mainly on AOC Wines, a white and a red and a Ruby style Port which is an LBV so already on the high end spectrum of the Ruby style. The boat trip is optional on our tour and it's mainly a time for you to relax and enjoy the views of the valley from a different perspective from the one you have on the van. The participants that decide not to join the boat cruise have free time to walk around the village of Pinhão. Regarding the lunch in fact we had some problems with it and we worked on solving them, we are very sorry that at the time you did the tour didn't worked well, but as you can see from the last reviews it was already solved this question. In fact the estate were you had lunch has some of the most amazing views on the Douro Valley but as during the past weeks we had very hot days that, in some cases, passed the 45 degrees celcius, so we decided to serve lunch inside the building in order to be more comfortable and regarding some remarks of the previous week. I'm very sorry that the tour didn't matched your expectations and we work hard to solve some of the problems that you have mentioned. I hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again in one of our tours, to show you the standards from our tours and of Cooltour Oporto as showed for the hundreds of 5* reviews. Kind regards Ricardo Lopes

I would give this tour 2.5. I paid about $135 dollars and I don’t think it was worth that much. It wasn’t what I expected. First let me say that the driver was very nice abs knowledgeable however, I and the other people on the tour thought he drove way way too fast. We were all scared and nervous because we it was truly scary. Turning sharply, speeding on small roads or highways, zooming past cars. It was too much. The next thing was that the optional boat tour was not optional. It was required. When I asked about just walking by through the city he said it made no sense to because it was so small and that there was nothing to see. There was also NOTHING to see on the boat and you have to pay $10 for the ride. We sat on the boat, the driver drove slowly for 30 min in one direction and then made a u-turn to head back. That was the 60 min boat ride. Again, not worth it. At the first vineyard you would think the owner or something would help us with the tasting and talk to us more about the wines we are tasting but nope. They poured it out, said this was the bottle and gave us purchasing options. All of our knowledge bout the vineyard came from the driver… not from the people that WORK in the vineyard. The second vineyard was supposed to be another tasting. They gave us a full bottle to split between four people. Ok… then we were supposed to have lunch. That’s what it said in the description. Lunch. We got soup and a cheese and meat board to share between 4 people. And I tiny piece of cake for dessert. That’s not a meal. After asking if there was more fox coming and they said no that this was it they brought out another bottle of wine and offered to bring more meat and cheese and crochets. I was in shock. We all were. They brought us a glass of port and a wine tonic and that was the end of it. We sped home so quickly. Maybe this tour was better before the pandemic but I would not recommend. If you’re staying in Porto, find a nice wine shop and you can get many options for wine and you can get a meat and cheese board and then afterwards have a proper meal.

Maria was a wonderful guide during our 4 1/2-hour food tour through Porto on April 25. We found her wide range of knowledge about culture and history in Porto and the surrounding region to be fascinating, and she adapted the tour and conversation to our interests. She answered all our questions with a great deal of charm and knowledge. On April 26 Filipe’s 9-hour food and wine tour through the Douro valley with river cruise was a very good value, and Filipe was an exceptional guide. Filipe’s charm, sense of humor and deep knowledge bonded our six-person tour into a tight community. (Each of us spontaneously hugged him afterwards.) Tours by the same company can be very different depending upon the guide. We got lucky and strongly recommend asking for Maria or Felipe.

First off, I appreciate that this company accepts solo bookings, unlike the 2-person minimum of other companies - yay! I thought this was a wonderful day trip, and very worth it. It felt very well organized, while relaxed and casual. I thought that the number of the stops was just right, and the amount of time spent at each (including lunch) never felt like we stayed too long nor did we feel rushed. The small group size was very nice, and our guides were friendly and helpful. The information and wine offered was similarly just right in terms of pacing and amount (I ended up not even finishing most of my wine samples!). And, of course, the beauty of the valley is endlessly stunning, and I felt singularly worth the tour; I probably otherwise would have otherwise had to miss out on this spectacular scenery. I was glad I decided to opt for the river cruise; despite me feeling a bit too much like a tourist :) it was a bonus to experience the valley from this different perspective and at this slower rhythm. The only drawback to the day, for us in the back seats of the minivan, was not being able to hear our guides, despite them being miked; I would've loved to hear all the info they were sharing.

We had a really great time on this small group tour - it was just 6 of us in total including myself and my husband, which was ideal during the Covid-19 pandemic when you really don't want to be in large groups. Everyone had to wear masks in enclosed spaces, so we felt very safe.

The stops we went to were great, our tour guide was lovely. We tried lots of great wines and ports, and saw some fantastic views. The boat ride was great fun too :) and provided more great views.

The only negative for us was the lunch stop, as the food was average at best, quite pricey, and we were extremely rushed for time. If it hadn't been for this then we would have scored the tour 5/5. Luckily the free snacks (amazing cheese!) we had at the wine tasting stops were significantly better than the lunch so we didn't go too hungry.

We would thoroughly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to take a day out of Porto to see another side to the North of Portugal.

Our tour guide, Jorge, explained Portuguese history and the development and growth of the Douro Valley wine industry. He was also an excellent driver.
Our group enjoyed the two winery visits, especially the afternoon winery visit which focused on Port tastings. The owner of that winery went into great detail describing the different varieties of Port with several samples. Lunch was in a beautiful spot with a comfortable outdoor courtyard. I think everyone was satisfied with the quality and quantity of food. Our cruise was enjoyable. Overall, there was plenty of wine to taste and appreciate. The only negative was that the tour operator gave our guide a van with a broken microphone. Therefore, the guests sitting in the back of the 8 person van had trouble hearing the explanations as we drove. This is not a reflection on the guide, but on the operator. Otherwise, I would give a 5 star review. Our guide repeated everything when we stopped so that those in the back of the van didn't miss any details.
