Our guide was Numo. He provided an excellent commentary throughout the tour, moving us around the city at a pace suitable for our age group. We never felt rushed. He was confident in answering any questions we put to him. The tour seemed to flow and moved in a logical sequence. In fact, on reflection although the time did go very quickly, I was surprised at the number of locations we had visited and how much ground we had covered. It was an enjoyable experience and we departed with far more knowledge of Porto than when we started. Finishing up on the river at the end of the tour was brilliant, providing us a spot to enjoy lunch overlooking the bridge and water, still buzzing from the morning’s adventure.

This was such an essential way to get to know a digestable history about Porto and the neighboring city of Gaia. Our guide, Beatriz, was so personable, charming, and generous. I really enjoyed hearing everything she had to say about the port wine, the Douro River, and her answers to all our questions. My only recommendation would be not have concluded the food tour with such a heavy meal since there was so much eating and drinking that preceded it. That said, Beatriz is simply stellar as a guide and took us to local places that we never would have known to frequent in Porto. She also handled so well having my 20-month-old baby along for the tour, including looking after him while we toured the oldest port winery in Gaia so that we could absorb all the fascinating details of that venue. She also adjusted the start time of the tour based on our needs, and accommodated our lateness by bringing the first food experience to our meeting spot, which was just lovely. If you take this tour, Beatriz makes it all worth it!

Joao Rocha was our tour guide. He was relaxed, accommodating and a lot of fun. Very cheerful and friendly. He asked us if we had any particular requests about what we wanted to see and made sure he included them. Because we were only a group of four it was like walking with good friends. He had good recommendations for meals after the tour and we took his advice. Because of his enthusiasm I even tried octopus rice! We saw the major sights but it was his knowledge and little anecdotes about the city that really made the difference.
A great tour.

This was a very good tour that helped orient us to the city of Porto, which, we discovered, is a very walkable city. We had a great guide, Renan, who gave us a lot of history and perspective on his native city. He answered all our questions, and showed us all the highlights. This was a great way to start our week-long visit to Porto.

Walking with our guide, Ricardo, was quite informative and interesting. He gave us a good history of Porto, explained the significance of various sites, and was quite charming and friendly. He answered all our questions and brought us to areas that one would have a tough time finding. He kept a good pace and was able to keep track of everyone in our group.

This was a great walking tour with George. He was very knowledgable, answered all our questions and told us some great stories about the history of Porto. George’s English was perfect and we covered lots of ground and saw things which we wouldn’t have done just by wandering around. It was interesting, great value and we’d definitely recommend it. Thank you George!

We really enjoyed this tour of Porto. It was a small group and we were provided with interesting information and helpful tips at each stop. Our guide, Maria, was friendly and answered any questions we had. It was relaxed and a great way to get your bearings in the city. The only negative was that, although we had booked an English speaking tour, there was a couple booked on who needed a Portuguese speaking tour. This meant the tour guide had to work twice as hard, doing 2 tours in 1 and also meant we had to wait around in order for the translation. The guide handled this well but I think that the tour organisers should make sure this doesn't happen in future.

We met Mariana by the fountain and, unsurprisingly we were the only two people on the 3 hour walking tour. Well, it was January and quite cold and windy. Mariana’s English was perfect, she asked us if we had any specific interests (alas not) so we trundled around chatting whilst she pointed out various places of interest and was very knowledgeable about the architecture, history and politics of each place we went. A very nice way to spend a morning.

How many people are in this tour group, and is it totally in English?
Written October 19, 2018
There were about 10 people in the tour group that day, but I assume the number will vary. The tour was conducted all in English. The tour guide, a graduate student, was quite fluent in English and very knowledgeable.
