We had an opportunity to visit Terrabona Winery for a private wine tasting and it was an experience where time did not exist - only the utmost beautiful view, amazing company of our hosts Marco and Maria João, and their rare and exclusive wines paired with delicious organic appetizers.
Around two and a half hours passed in one blink, during which we tried wines made in different styles, varying between classic white wines and orange wines, produced both in steel and oak barrels. It is an amazing treat to try wines made in uniquely small quantities.
The winery offers an opportunity to purchase and ship the wines home. Even though shipment from Madeira is predictably more expensive than usual, it is a gem to have something so rare in your wine cabinet for sure.
The tasting itself feels more like being a guest of the estate, rather than a formal experience, which is an extra pleasure compared to other wineries where you first have the wine 101 which grows pretty old after you visit a few.
One of the best winery visits and tastings in our quite broad experience for sure.

Marco and Maria provided a totally unique and fantastic wine tasting experience with small group sizes, so very personal. The location is incredible and they were such welcoming hosts, with a really relaxed style. All the wines were excellent, with generous measures and matched well with food pairings using local ingredients. Opportunity to purchase bottles of wine at the end of the evening directly. This is a real hidden gem in the north of Madeira.

As a wine geek a trip to Madeira is mandatory. It’s the fortified wines that made me book a plane but there is so much more: fantastic scenery, yummy food and friendly people.
All of these are ticked off during a visit to Terrabona!
The location is breathtaking, one of the best on an island where there are many locations competing for the crown…
The food served were masterfully paired with the 4 wines and made the experience very complete…
Marco was an excellent host striking an excellent balance between sharing his passion for wine and leaving his guests to relax overlooking the valley…
Oh, and those non fortified wines? You’d better believe they were delicious!

Fantastic experience. Our host (and owner), Marco was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wine and food pairings were beautiful! The surroundings were tranquil and awe-inspiring. We thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting experience and would recommend this to anyone and everyone. Good luck Marco and family! You have a great thing going.

Lovely location and good wine. We enjoyed our visit, and the serene landscape. Would have been nice to see a little bit of the orchard, and learn more about the growing/harvesting process. We arrived a little early as did the other guests and weren’t really sure where we were supposed to go or meet - staff told us to buzz the intercom and waited past our start time (intercom not working we learned).

Are you here to taste the water? Is how Marco greeted us as we asked if we were at the right location for our tasting - love his dry thoughtful humour. He and María present a very laid back but exquisite approach to their business which we found both enjoyable and informative. The unique and personal experience set this tasting event apart from many others we have experienced. Learning about the history of their property and wine making endeavour to stand out from others in their approach to making high end organic wines was great - especially in the move to break out of the typical Madeira centralized process of grading and fermentation. The setting, like them, is calm, beautiful and puts one at ease to best enjoy their lovely wines and bang on food pairing. A great experience if you are fond of the better things in life - not to be missed.
Cheers to you two!

Sadly the owner cancelled 24 hours ahead of reservation due to illness
We were offered an alternative day but our friends had already booked other events.
Disappointed as we had booked this for our friends 70th birthday gift.
We are awaiting our full refund

We do not understand why you wanted to penalize us. Trip advisor, already refund you. It is not us.
My Husband is at the Hospital with a spine problem. This is a family project, where the experiences are promoted by us (by me and my Unsband) to be intimist and very personalized.
It is tottaly disapointing for us, that you do not understand the health problem my husband had. And because of that, we needed to change some issues in the logistics of our Hotel and Wine Experiences.,for these and following days.
And we, proposed other day option for you.
We cannot do anything more, for this weekend.. Unfortunetely.
It is very sad your review. Hope that you can never had an health problem like we had that make your work and well being impossible.
It was a selfish review from you.
Kind regards,
Maria

We often do tastings, but this was by far the best for us so far. In a beautiful location overlooking the sea and the vineyard, the owner talked about his dream that has now come true. The wines and snacks were delicious, the setting was great and the passion of the owner was beautiful to see. We were even test subjects for a special species and that was also a lot of fun. In short: go here and be surprised!

This experience was a major highlight of our trip!! Marco and Maria were excellent hosts who provided an ideal atmosphere to taste their delicious wines. They provided multiple wines paired with local, refreshing snacks that went above and beyond what we imaged for this experience. The views are stunning and a wonderful place to snap some photos and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. I highly recommend a visit to this unique wine experience and I hope to return someday!

We organised this tour as a last minute decision as weather was terrible in South Madeira but in the north the forecast was good. It was a really nice surprise. The vineyard was small and included 5 villas, and was really scenic, out of way and peaceful. We tasted the local wines with a cheese and meat board included. We were treated very well and we really enjoyed the visit.
