About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Penpal_550 contributionsAvid travelerOur driver today in a small passenger van was Bruno. He picked us up and dropped us off right outside the gate to our hotel. We went to 3 locations all of which were beautiful.Written February 3, 2025
- CubaqueenOntario0 contributionsgreat way to see so muchGreat communication from Viator and Lido tours. Pick up was exactly on time. Just 17 people in our group. Marco was our guide and very funny and knowledgeable. Was able to stress the importance of everyone staying on time and there were no late tourists returning from viewpoints. We saw so much and was definetly worth the money. A full day of fun.Written January 27, 2025
- lisaenamy0 contributionsGreat walk for beginners. No special skills needed.Great walking tour, despite the shower rain. Thanks to Ruby we had a great walk. Lido Tours offers a great way to explore the island when you are cruising. They pick you up at the harbour. Communication was excellent. Driver is a save driver. Pricing is reasonable. Thank you again Ruby, see you maybe in december!Written January 25, 2025
- suerW1278LH0 contributionsExcellent tour.I went on the Western Madeira tour on 14 January 2025. The driver was excellent, very informative and there was plenty of time to see each place we stopped at. Lots of photo opportunities. This was my second Lido Tour and I will definitely book another one when I return to Madeira.Written January 21, 2025
- 67sarir0 contributionsGreat experience, any time again!Persuaded by all the positive reviews, I decided to book 4 hikes (Ponta de São Laurenço, Larano, Rabaçal, Madeira Peaks) and 2 bus tours (Best of the West, Nun's Valley) with Lido Tours - and it was the best decision! I had Sara(h) as tourguide for all the hikes, a very pleasant, knowledgeable and charming person, not only on a professional but also on a personal level. She took good care of the group on each of the hikes and made sure that we have an enjoyable experience, while providing lots of useful information and honest recommendations (fluently in different languages!). The hikes have been breathtaking, you should definitely not miss the Larano and São Laurenço hike, they have been my absolute favourites. I also liked that the busses have been very clean and were driven by an excellent busdriver and the pick-ups were each time reliable and punctual. The Madeira Peaks hike was cancelled due to the remaining damage of the wild fires last year and I was offered alterative hikes for that day and when declining the offers I immediately got a refund. The bus tours have also been nice to see more of the island, with very knowledable and entertaining guides (Bruno/Marco). Personally, I preferred the hikes but just because they were more active/nature-related and less touristic, but I can recommend such a "more relaxing" tour between the hiking. Overall, very professional tour provider. I will recommend Lido Tours to my family/friends and will try some of the other hikes during my next stay on Madeira!Written January 19, 2025
- verabC2246VX0 contributionsLarano CliffWent 18th of January, sadly I forgot the name of the guide but she was amazing! Very knowledgeable and considerate. The walk itself was easy to moderate, a lot of nice views, recommended to do!Written January 18, 2025
- abcLe0 contributionsBest way to visit MadeiraI did a total of 3 full day tours with a mini bus and 3 full day levada walks, all with Lido Tours and I can't recommend it enough! The tour guides are funny and at the same time very informative, they make sure everyone understands and it's having a good time. The mountain guides are also amazing! They'll explain everything about the forest around you ,both fauna and flora. The views on the Levada walks were breathtaking and you get a good chance to connect with nature.Written January 17, 2025
- 623namew0 contributionsMediocrePros: Tour guide punctual, driving excellent. Cons: This isn't the best west tour in Maderia. The only 2 highlights are 1. Cabo Girão Skywalk (15mins) . 2. Porto Moniz natural pools. The other 2 stops, a small vegetable fruit market (40mins) and a garden with some random trees (30 mins). We spent less time in the better destinations and more time in the 2 other pointless locations. Choose another tour operator, Lido Tours isn't one of them.Written January 15, 2025
- O6869FXdanielc0 contributionsFantastic day with excellent guide and incredible panoramic viewsWe had a fantastic day. Friendly, funny, likeable guide who loved his island and knew loads about the local history and flora and fauna. Time flew by. Excellent value.Written January 14, 2025
- Companion011542425840 contributionsTour experience could be better. The views are spectacular though. My first interaction with the operators was when they tried to force me to go to their office for the pickup when I had obviously arranged for a hotel pick up. They only agreed to comply to the pickup after I threatened to cancel. Secondly, the guide was giving the tour in 2 languages. Often by he time he explained in one language and translated to the other, we would have driven past the landmark and the effect was lost. It would be better if each tour was limited to just one language. The views of the valley are spectacular though.Written January 14, 2025
- annie200610 contributions25 fountains levada walkWe had a great tour with Lianna, she was very friendly and knowledgeable. The hike was 12km, a moderate and very enjoyable walk. The scenery was amazing. Take a packed lunch & a drink there is nowhere to eat there. We had a lovely day. Definitely do this tour when in Madeira.Written December 25, 2024
- family4MI0 contributionsGreat cruise excursionWe had a great tour with Bruno. He easily switched back and forth between three languages. Our ship came in second, so it was confusing for us to finding the taxi stand which is at front by first ship. Don't buy Madeira wine or Puncho from last road side stop. I think you can find better in grocery stores. Would recommend this tour for cruise stop.Written December 12, 2024

- Nomad2813920 contributionsGreat views with breathtaking scenery. The views were amazing and the driver /guide was lovely,it was a great half day trip with.So glad I chose to do this and would highly recommend itWritten December 5, 2024
- VivienCotswold0 contributionsLavada walkAlthough the information on my ticket said it was a hotel pick-up, I was sent a link to Google maps. It was very confusing as the app couldn't find the place and it was difficult to know what I was looking for. Maybe give people a landmark instead? Walk was lovely but with a bilingual group, it takes longer for explanations at each stop. This walk could easily be done as self guided as it would be difficult to get lost.Written December 1, 2024

The minibus could carry about 15 people. It wasn't too cramped. Our guide was Roberto, who was very professional and spoke perfect English. There was just enough commentary and information without it being overwhelming and we could enjoy the scenery and relax. Some fabulous views throughout the tour. The temperature and weather varies dramatically from place to place, so it is worth bringing a light coat which can be left on the minibus.
The restaurant in Santana which was suggested by the guide for lunch was a pleasant surprise and we had a great meal which was very reasonably priced.

What an amazing trip this was! Our driver Bruno collected us early from our accommodation in Camara de Lobos and immediately came across pleasantly with a great sense of humour. Once we had collected the other people on the tour from Funchal, Bruno then commenced his commentary and he was fluent in both English and German. The ease at which he was able to switch between languages was remarkable. We made several stops including the wonderful Santana, Porto da Cruz and Pico do Arieiro to name but a few. The minibus was smooth and comfortable and Bruno’s driving was also safe and reassuring. I would highly recommend this tour and I also feel it represents great value for money considering it lasts a whole day.

A fabulous full day tour. Approximately 9 am to 5pm in a small group with an excellent guide/ driver. We learnt and saw so much with just the right amount of time at each place. We were blessed with good weather so the view points were spectacular. We also loved the traditional poncha house for refreshments and comfort stop plus the traditional houses of Santana. Our driver recommended the best restaurant that was reasonably priced and served snacks and full lunches. My favourite day of our holiday so far.

This is a tough one to score, our guide was fab, he fluently switched between languages, providing great insight and information about the sights and history of Madeira. He welcomed questions and enough time was allowed at each stop to adequately see the sights at leisure. What let this tour down considerably was the transport. The mini bus was old, the seats were sunken and so really uncomfortable. The buses air conditioning didn’t work properly and it took ages to get to a comfortable temperature, on top of that there was an incessant beeping/buzzing noise, the whole trip. The combination of noise and heat made me feel very carsick, something I never suffer normally. The company did seem to be running 2 buses on this tour, the other one looking considerably newer so you may get lucky when booking! Madeira is a beautiful island and I would definitely recommend exploring but not sure I would choose this tour provided again personally.

Marco was an informative, personable guide, impressively fluent in French and English. He took us to many interesting places around the sides streets of Santana, as well as including all the main sites on our itinerary, and gave us plenty of time to appreciate each of the places we visited. We were lucky with the weather on Pico do Arieiro which helped. He gave lots of information along the way, answered all our personal questions and dealt caringly with an elderly member of the group with some mobility difficulties. We booked two different excursions with Lido Tours during our week on Madeira and will definitely use them again.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use as part of a cruise holiday. Very rarely throughout the day did we run into tours run by the cruise companies. Drivers are very professional and knowledgeable. We left port at 9 and got back at 4, so a full day, unlike the cruise offerings of 4 hours max. The vehicles are smaller in size which helps when accessing viewpoints. At 38 Euros it is outstanding value. Whilst lunch is not included the driver suggested a local restaurant, but there was no pressure to use it and there others close by.
Book directly through the website where you can pay immediately or buy now pay later. You can cancel 24 hours in advance if you need to, especially if the cruise line cancel the port. If you pay for it later take cash with you to pay the driver. We didn't have the whole lot in cash so the office sent a link by sms and paid through that.
Bottom line just go for it, we used them for the west coast as well. Oh make sure you pack a waterproof as Maderia can have 4 seasons in a day.
Enjoy

Fantastic! Swimming in natural volcanic Atlantic pools, riding above the clouded, this can’t be missed. We took our own packed lunch as the set three course for €18 would be too much for us. Wear trainers and take a coat/hoodie

Great day out. Our driver / guide Marco was amazing, he has such a wealth of knowledge and being a smaller bus he could take you to parts of the island bigger coaches would not be able to reach. Santana gets busy around lunchtime so my advice would be eat first then wander after.

Thoroughly enjoyable tour, despite traffic chaos on Pico Do Areeiro. Didn’t actually reach the summit of that mountain thanks to badly parked cars but our knowledgeable driver Bruno saved the day by expertly reversing our minibus to escape the jam. The rest of the tour was stress free & there were many scenic vistas to take in along with a good lunch (optional) in Santana. Beautiful island with so much to take in - recommended 👍

This is a great way to see the Island, our tour guide and driver was Nuno and he looked after us well gave excellent recommendations of what to see and where to eat etc. Gave us a locals insight into the Island and provided some humour along the way. The tour was full so try and book early there are plenty of pick up points across Funchal and the small coach wad comfy and air conditioned. I highly recommend Lido Tours a great way to see Madeira.

Hallo,
