      Wonderful Afternoon Trip
We reserved this trip the evening before at the marina kiosk. We explained we might not make it due to other trips we had booked. This wasn't a problem. We made it with about 30 minutes to spare!! The trip was really good. The crew were great and answered any questions asked. The catamarans are stable at sea which makes things a lot easier. The view of the sunset on the return was beautiful over the sea. Unfortunately we didn't see any whales or dolphins........ The good this about this is you can book another trip for free if there are no sightings!! This is valid a lifetime.

Great afternoon on the ocean, with great views of Madeira.
Fun filled afternoon on the ocean with terrific views of Funchal and other parts of the Madeiran coastline. They said we would see dolphins, and we did, swimming right alongside the boat. Beer, wine and snacks were available on board.

      Watching pilot whales
BRISK, choppy conditions could have turned our catamaran whale and dolphin watching trip with Magic Dolphin into a disaster. Instead it produced a vibrant combination of hilarious incident, swooping passage through the waves and the triumphant spotting of a pod of pilot whales towards the end of our voyage. We arrived on the quay and checked in at the ticket desk before joining scores of other people waiting to go out to sea. We didn't know it at the time but the large size of the catamaran was to play to our advantage and even then it was a wild ride on waves which started at barely a metre but got larger and larger the further we went out until we were rollercoasting down one and up the next. Boarding our catamaran was the usual scrum with eager beavers hustling for what they considered to be the best spot on board. We had the last laugh. By the time we got on board the higher deck was full and all the "best" places near the bows of the main deck were taken by daredevils keen to show they were having a good time. They had no-one to blame but themselves as we left harbour and the captain warned those on the main deck that they might want to move back a bit because conditions meant they might get wet. No-one moved and the rest of us thoroughly enjoyed what happened next. We had barely got out on to the sea proper when there was a thump and a wave came on board right through the thick of those who'd fought for a prominent position. There were shrieks of shock and a good deal of laughter as designer handbags were rescued and cool dudes tried to stay cool as the front of their sporty clothing took a drenching. They weathered that wave but another came and then another until finally the captain's message sank in and the diehards began to drift back to drier seating. By pure luck our seating on the port side seemed slightly drier and we ended up as the most advanced viewpoint although inevitably we got a few facefuls of seawater along the way. A few announcements for people feeling seasick told them not to go to the toilet which would be the worst place for them. The initial fizz and buzz of the drenchings and the swoop up and down waves died away and all focus swung on spotting the marine attractions we had come to see. An hour later and we were still waiting but towards the end a tip came in and we joined another group shadowing a pod of pilot whales. The captain followed correct modern protocol to give us our photo opportunity but not to stay too long that we made the whales uncomfortable with our presence. Full marks there. Almost before we knew it we were skimming back to Funchal at the end of a wonderful day we enjoyed for all the right reasons. Overall the catamaran had good facilities including drinks and toilets while the crew was very professional and very knowledgeable about marine life Top marks for the Magic Dolphin....and watch out you don't get soaked too!!

      Fun for all the family
Great trip. The spacious catamaran was ideal for 3 generations of our family. The small ones loved being out on the net across the bows and the older ones enjoyed the seats and shade across the middle. With whales and dolphins located early, we enjoyed the trip to the cliffs, we even saw a flying fish!

Amazing day - marine mammals, island and water sports in one!
Amazing trip! We were advised to bring jackets, which were needed during the boat journey due to the open sea and winds. The boat ride itself was very pleasant. The trip onto Desertas Island was very informative, and we really enjoyed the conservation of the island. There was plenty of free time to enjoy water sports, if desired. Lunch was provided, buffet style, which was plentiful. As a vegan, I was very impressed with the care given - I was given a band indicating dietary needs, and I was given a vegan burger as the main (to go with the buffet vegetable selection). On the way back, we were fortunate enough to see 3 species of marine life - Dolphins, Pilot Wales and a Sperm Whale. An amazing day, with a great crew!

      Great experience
Great trip. Easy booking. One of our party was unwell and unable to come but they refunded us for their trip. We saw a turtle and a couple of pods of dolphins. A fantastic experience. Snacks and drinks on board very reasonable and delicious cocktails. Highly recommend.

      Disappointed
We were disappointed with the cruise unfortunately especially after being recommended by friends. The boat was great. The crew were friendly but we felt that they could've given more information about the island and wildlife, given that we didn't see any whales or dolphins, it was a long 3 hours. I appreciate they offered us another tour, and there's no guarantee with wildlife just felt they could have been more engaged with customers on board.

      Cancelled trip.
I made a booking for the 9 hour tour of the deserted islands. It was canceled due to bad weather two days before. Although this was a pity, the cancellation was handled securely and clear. A reschedule was offered but not possible from our side, so a refund was made without question.

A terrible mistake to go on this trip!
This catamaran trip is a scam, aiming to get money out of tourists at all cost! To start with, we were told to bring only ourselves and a swimsuit, everything else will be provided on board (food, water, drinks and shelter) and we should look forward to a nice sunny ride with a visit to the dessert island where we will do a hike around the island, snorkling, paddleboarding and lots of swimming. We were also promissed a delicious hight quality lunch on board with plenty of options for all.. Now the reality.. the weather condition were very bad that day, extremely windy already in the morning, so they knew it wasn't going to be a pleasant drive and yet they went ahead with it, instead of cancelling or postponing the trip! There was absolutely no shelter from the strong winds, it was extremely cold and wet the entire almost 3hrs ride both ways.. i had 4 layers on me including a rain jacket and a big towel wrapped around me and still i was shiverring and could not keep my eyes open as the wind and splashes of water was getting to my eyes.. There were people who got unwell, others curled up on the plastic benches holding tight to their loved ones, trying to protect each other from the cold and wind.. After we sufferred through the first part of the trip and set foot on the dessert island, the "hiking" begun which was literraly a 100m circular walk.. you could not move around the island by yourself due to danger of a landslide.. has anyone mentioned it before at the time of booking this trip? No, of course not. Ok, so let's do the snorkling we thought.. there are lots of rocks and crystal clear water, there must be a lot to see under water.. another dissapointment, we were not allowed to snorkel anywhere near the rocks as apparantly last month a piece of rock fell directly on a tourist's neck and got injured.. whaaat? If it's that dangerous to snorkle there, then why are you taking us there and advirtise it as a wonderful snorkling experience??? We were literally told at the time of booking that it was a great place to snorkle.. in the end, we were limited to snorkle by the tiny beach in an area of about 50sqm and instead of colourful fish you could observe the tourists feet under water :) After this "wonderful" experience and 5 hours into our trip, we finally got to have our lunch which was a buffet with the option of cold slices of pork or cold piece of very dry fish and a "salad" that consisted of two ingrediens, tomato and cucamber. Needless to say, we came back from this trip totally exhausted, frozen to bone, dissapointed and frustrated.. it was a waste of money and a wasted day. I do not recommend this trip to anyone, honestly.

This trip was so easy to book online through the trip advisor site and had an array of positive feedback.
From the collection of tickets, to boarding, to the trip itself the staff were excellent. The excursion was perfect and could not be faulted. The staff really knew their stuff and we did spot many spotted bottled nosed doplhins swimming alongside our vessel. The sites and coastline were beautiful and to stop off for a little dip in the sea was a lovely touch. The waters were 20degrees so not too bad at all.
The sunset was beautiful and to se le Maderia lit up as you sail towards the harbour to disembark was also stunning.
The vessel was clean and spacious. Drinks were served onboard with snacks but make sure you have euros on you. No card payments are possible.
Overall I could not rate this experience enough. The dolphins were observed for a limited time period only as to not disturb their environment too much. Highly recommended

Lovely trip! Snacks on board - definitely recommend taking something to throw over yourself when it gets windy. The sunset tour does look out for marine mammals - we saw three fin whales at sunset! Absolutely gorgeous. Because of the cloudiness of the weather the sunset did get covered at the very end but this didn’t spoil the magical trip. Very lucky to have seen what we did. There was a monk seal so we could not swim but that was okay I didn’t want to anyway with it being a bit chilly. This was rare though to see one so far from its shore. The crew was knowledgeable and respected the sea animals. Place was easy to find and I gave my name from online and it was found effortlessly. Very good trip and good company to go with.

We’d already booked the dolphin / whale watching tour but tbf if you’re lucky this is 2 for the price of one!

Easily booked via the Trip Advisor App.
Had to queue for a while in the baking heat, which was the only downside.
A large boat with multi national clientele, catered for with commentary in different languages.
Drinks and snacks available at a reasonable price - excellent bar staff, too.
The bonus was that we saw LOADS of dolphins and whales, thanks to the expert spotter on the boat. Fabulous photo and video opportunities. Plenty of points on the boat to catch sight of everything.
Excellent coastal cruise followed with spectacular views.
The one DOWNSIDE was that for a sunset cruise, the sun set out of sight........

It did exactly what it said on the tin . It was a sunset and dolphin watching tour and we were lucky enough to see both. I even got to see Tuna fish breaching the surface. The vessel is large and modern and even has a bar for refreshments. If you book this take a swim costume because they stop to allow customers to swim in the Atlantic at sunset. I can thoroughly recommend this trip !

This is probably not the most exciting activity on the island (for people in their late twenties/early thirties) but I saw older people and children really enjoyed it. The tour met our expectations as we saw dolphins, the sunset, the coast with night lights and there was a chance to jump into the water as well. Drinks are cheap on the boat but food-wise there are only snacks. We brought some jackets based on other people’s reviews but we didn’t really need them.

    Very disappointing.
Left at 10.30am in three hour trip. As they don't use gps to track whales (pods) they were guessing where to go. No sightings.
Audio system didn't work if you were up front and €2 for a third of a litre bottle of water was excessive.
Toilet was basic. Down a vertical stair, hard to use if elderly.
10 stop for a swim was the only highlight the rather boring three hours.
As trip was disappointing, passengers were offered a lifetime free trip in the future. Very fair under circumstances.

Experienced crew and clean catamaran. Not too crowded so easy to see when dolphins were spotted. A good commentry telling you sbout the dolphins. Small selection of snacks and drink with prices not too bad, on a par with cafe prices.

Definitely worthwhile! Beautiful scenery and weather, including a fabulous sunset - and it was great to see dolphins close up. Beforehand, I was wondering whether 3 hours was too long, but it turned out to be perfect - the time passed almost too fast. The only (very minor) downside was that check-in seemed to be an unnecessarily long time before departure.

It was a nice trip, do bring a coat of something warm as advised by the booking guys as it got quite chilly once the sun went. We sat on the rope netting at the front the entire time, but people got up and left as they were cold. The kids enjoyed jumping in the sea off the boat and we did manage to see some dolphins. The trip was a bit boring before the swimming but improved after that. I would recommend it though. The scenery of Madeira from the sea is stunning.

Nice 3 hour round trip. Plenty of room on deck (there are plenty of seats and some netting at the front if you want to sunbathe).

Saw a few dolphins briefly and had a 15 minute stop below the Cabo Girao cliffs near the shore so you can swim in the sea if you wish.

Reasonably priced drinks at the bar.
