Taking this tour was easily our greatest decision during our recent trip to Lisbon. As we were the only two who booked the tour for the day, we were lucky enough to have a "private" tour guided by an amazing guide, Ruth. Ruth was able to seamlessly weave the food, culture, and history of Lisbon together into a reasonably paced walking tour where we experienced a variety of cuisine and drink.

This tour, and the wealth of knowledge that Ruth was able to provide, gave us a really solid foundation to explore the city and cuisine on our own in the following days. I would highly recommend this tour, and would urge you to schedule it during the first day(s) of your trip. Well worth it!

Dear daniel_seattle12, We are extremely grateful for the review you provided. That is the best pleasure to read such a comment and understand that our hard work is worth it. We work tenaciously to provide our guests with the highest level of service. Our tours run even with one person booked, and it is nice to hear that you have enjoyed the "private" tour for you and your partner. We are delighted that you liked the mix of food and history and that the guide was able to make it unforgettable for you. We are happy that, thanks to our tour, you had an opportunity not only to relax and have fun but also to learn more about the city itself and plan your following days. We hope you spent an unforgettable rest of your trip in Lisbon, and look forward to seeing you with us in the near future again! Kind regards, Sasha

Such a wonderful tour. Cecilia was a lovely guide. She intertwined culture, food, customs, history and drink in a wonderful way. We learned about the good, the bad, the ugly - and the very tasty! I would highly recommend doing this as soon as possible once arriving in Lisboa, as it gives a great perspective of the city and helps you plan what to do next. I think this tour attracts really cool people as well. Loved the conversations with other people. Got the scoop on what to do in Ireland on a future trip (great bonus!)

Be sure to be ready to walk and be outdoors. Wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the season. We visited in late May, so shorts, sunglasses and flip flops were perfect.

We participated in this tour on our first full day in Lisbon and it was perfect! Our guide, Cecilia, is very knowledgeable and her love for Portugal made this tour a highlight. I recommend participating early in your stay to become familiar with neighborhoods, significant food and foundational stories/histories of Portugal. We explored the city a bit more like insiders who were familiar with short-cuts, traditions, histories and personalities. It made the rest of our time in Lisbon much more meaningful. Cecilia gave our group a chance to meet each other and we became a friendly, supportive group. Her warmth, kindness and patience spread throughout our temporary little community.

We had a great time eating our way through Lisbon with Devour tours and our guide Ruth! Prior to our visit we found their video on Youtube to get an idea of what Portuguese food was like and we found it so helpful that we booked with them! The tour was well organized and generous in serving sizes. Come hungry because you will definitely eat a lot! Ruth offered some great insights into the general history of neighborhoods we explored as well as the history/culture of the food we ate. It was a great way to explore and get introduced to the city. I would highly suggest booking the tour for your first day in Lisbon so you get a good introduction and have time to re(eat) all the delicious foods!!!! They also offer a discount code at the end of the tour so you can eat your way through another city the next time you travel. Don't forget to tip - it's not suggested but always appreciated!

Ruth was an excellent guide. She is not only experienced with food (having previously owned and operated a restaurant in Lisbon) but super knowledge about the history of Lisbon and each of its neighborhoods and how food plays a part in that history. We took the English tour and her English was flawless. I would highly recommend a food tour versus a regular history tour in a foodie city like Lisbon. It's food is so integrated in the history and culture there. Just be prepared to wear comfortable shoes because you walk to so many neighborhoods and sometimes the streets are steep and the cobblestones don't help but I would recommend this tour again and again. Also, I liked that the group was small and intimate. And kudos to Ruth - she's fabulous!!! You can get a sense that she knew all the food vendors that we stopped at on a personal level and I appreciate that sense of community and comradery. I didn't feel like a group of obnoxious and annoying tour group but that we were getting an inside look at Lisbon's historic food scene.

Rita was our guide for the trip, very knowledgeable and full of enthusiasm, after introductions were made, we were off. The tour covered a wide range of tastes and venues, taking in all that the locals like to eat and drink. Coffee and cakes to start, then Ginjinha to set us up for the day. Rita not only talked about food but gave us a history lesson behind each item we sampled and also stopped at places of historic significance to tell us a little more about history, which was all both informative and put across in an enjoyable way. We were taken to a local family run restaurant to sample Bacalhau à brás, octopus, prawns etc and washed it down with a glass of wine. We had Bifanas -pork sandwich with sweet mustard and piri piri oil (delicious) washed down with a beer. It lasted around 4.5hrs and finished up in the timeout food Market, the food hall was packed but the trading stalls were empty due to it being a holiday, pastel de nata ( custard tarts), ended the trip. All in all a very very good way to spend half a day in Lisbon and if you are lucky enough to have Rita as your guide she will ensure it is filled with fun and laughter.

Jaime was an amazing tour guide! We were lucky and ended up with a private tour as the other group never showed up, but Jaime was incredibly informative as we walked around Lisbon. All of the food was delicious and the history that we learned was so interesting and made me want to explore Lisbon more. Jaime gave us great recommendations for less touristy spots around the city, and definitely deserves 5 stars, hands down, but I'd rate the food tour itself as 4 stars, as we added on the additional alcohol but didn't feel like we got our moneys' worth on that.

Spent a wonderful day with Lorena and Devour tours learning about the food and history of Lisbon. And eating and drinking a lot too! From iconic pastries to bacalao, iberico ham and ginja. Woven throughout was ancient and modern history. Lorena also gave restaurant recs for later and we enjoyed Faca e Garfo for an affordable, local dinner in Chiado. TY to the entire Devour team for also providing great customer service when we had problem with our reservation (that was entirely my fault).

Absolutely fabulous food tour! Cecilia was our guide and she was fantastic. Fluent in English. Entertaining, funny, informative. We really had a fabulous time on this tour. The love for both the city of Lisbon and the cuisine of Portugal was apparent from the carefully planned itinerary to the fabulous tastes we enjoyed. My favorite was the bifana and the delicious Iberian ham! Yum!! Thanks to Cecilia for a fabulous time.
