My partner and I have nothing but positive things to say! Our guides Ruthy and her shadow (Joelle) were personable and lively hosts. Our cups stayed filled with wine and beer, and the food tastings kept coming. My personal faves were the Portuguese coconut tarts and codfish cakes. The itinerary was well paced & we learned a lot about Portuguese culture and history. Wear good walking shoes with traction! We will hold onto this precious memory forever! Thank you for your hospitality.

After being cancelled by another, more expensive food tour, because I was the only booking, I turned to Ruthy’s Treasure of Lisboa Food Tour. This was fortuitous.
Although again, I was the only booking, Ruthy offered to move the tour or run it solo, as I wished.
I decided, on the basis of her good communication to go solo, and I was privileged to spend almost 4 hours on one of the best tours I have experienced.
The tour was a informative mixture of walking, views, history, culture, food and drink. This was an afternoon tour, my advice is to skip lunch and in fact I skipped dinner too.
I tasted olive oil, sardines, tomato rice with cod fish cake, octopus salad, cod on toasted bread, black pig salami and 3 cheeses, pastel de nata and pastel de Alfama The sardines, tomato rice, salad and cod on toasted bread were my favourites. And for drink I tried beer, vinho verde, Ginjinha, red wine and coffee.
What made the tour special was Ruthy. It was as if I was being shown round by my foodie friend who wanted to make sure that I had a good time and learned something about food drink and the culture of Alfama.
Highly recommended.

This was our first time in Portugal, and Rita truly made Lisbon come to life before our eyes - and taste buds - by sharing the culinary wonders of this remarkable city, focusing on the Alfama district. We walked through a labyrinth of beautiful passages to cozy, family-owned restaurants that served wonderful regional Portuguese wines and authentic dishes that Rita explained to us all with enthusiasm.

We traveled to Lisbon for my birthday and this tour certainly made this weekend memorable. Incredible food, beautiful sights, and a wonderful guide who I am recommending to everyone I know!

Thank you, Rita, for introducing us to such a wonderful city!

I will start out by saying that I'm a huge foodie and very critical.

I learned some facts about Alfama and we tried some food. I must say, that for a 3.5h food tour, a small amount was spent on the food and more just walking a bit and talking about the architecture. The food wasn't really impressive, though the wine was excellent (we tried 2). I was a bit disappointed as some of the items in the photos were not offered to us (for example, the item in the featured photo) - no clue if they were good or not. I would have prefered a shorter and more focused discussion on food and less about architecture - and a better curated selection of things to eat. I felt that going into random shops and spending the same amount of $$ on random dishes would have been more rewarding.

The host had great energy tough - and was always smiling and laughing. If you really don't care about the food and just want to kill a few hours and chat with other cool people, then this would be worthwhile.

Absolutely recommend this tour!

3 stops with enough food and wine to more than make up for a skipped lunch and all of the stops are family/independently owned. But it’s the guide who makes the tour: Ruthy (the guide/host) is funny, engaged, immediately familiar, and full of stories and jokes. Plus, she helped us avoid calamity as we were delayed getting through customs and joined 90 minutes late! Ruthy was beyond helpful coordinating with us to meet the tour in process and even had the first stop box our food and then walked us back after the tour to collect it! Way above and beyond.

This was an excellent way to get exposed to some of the wonderful tastes of Portugal, in a nicely organized walk through the Alfama district. Five stops, all family owned and intimate, with different specialties at each site. We were guided by an excellent guide, Francisco, whose English was perfect, his ability to listen and engage individually with the entire group, in a humorous yet knowledgeable way - he handled a group of strangers from California to Nebraska to Texas to Las Vegas, and by the end we all were laughing and loving the Portuguese fare! It was a very manageable walk in a wonderful part of Lisbon!

Perfect way to start a holiday in Lisbon. We had so much fun during the tour, the food was delicious and it was definitely more than enough so come hungry 😉 the guide was also really great, you really feel how much he likes doing this and tells you also a lot of nice things about the city. Highly recommend this tour!

This food tour was one of the best I've ever been on. The food selection was delicious and I really enjoyed all the restaurants we were in to the point where we went by ourselves later during our stay.
The guide is very knowledgeable about the city of Lisbonne, has great energy, lots of cool tips and really makes sure everyone is having a good time.

This was by far the highlight of our entire trip to Lisbon. We loved the mix of history, food, local legend, wine and architecture all expertly led by Ruthy. She had an amazing skill of making sure everyone was looked out for and felt connected and then let the group sit and chat as well (we were lucky with some really cool couples from around the world). So a great option for solo travelers as well as groups. The walking is really minimal and very easily paced. I have food allergies and she made sure to have a substitute dish for everything I couldn't eat (I think I lucked out with so many extra goodies). The good itself was delicious and so much! Easily multiple meals and better wine than I had on a wine tasting tour the day before. I hope they will be able to ship their food baskets to the US as I'm missing it already!

Ruthy was an exceptional tour guide, teaching us about the history of the city and taking us to several family-owned restaurants off the tourist track. I cannot rate this highly enough. A must-do in Lisbon.
