- abbycG5337ZO0 contributionsKnowledgeable guide, good pace: better than navigating sintra on your own for sureSilva is a cheerful and knowledgeable guide. Seeing these sights would not have been the same without his insights and I was surprised he could answer many of my husbands random questions. The tour is well structured: the pickup spot was easy to navigate to and our guide located everyone in the group. You have a nice amount of time for breakfast and lunch in sintra: enough time to relax but not get bored. I’m glad we weee able to visit the famous bakery and get a coffee. I think the pacing was very well done. You can see the sights, take pictures, explore a bit but we returned by 4:30-5ish so we still had some time in Lisbon in the evening. I wasn’t sure whether to try and navigate sintra on our own or with a tour, but after we got through it I’m so glad I booked this tour as I think trying to get transport to and from and navigating everything on our own would be stressful, and the cost of transport alone would be close to what they charge for this tour. Thanks Silva! :) I highly recommend this tour!Written January 9, 2025
- Genevieve A0 contributionsEnlightening, enjoyable experience in Evora and MonsarazWe had a great day in Evora and Mansaraz. Our tour guide was very friendly and accommodating, providing a lot of guided time with interesting information as well as time to explore the areas on our own. Both Evora and Mansaraz are beautiful old towns, much quieter than Lisbon but full of history and culture. We loved learning about and seeing the influence of Rome and Morocco and the views in Monsaraz were amazing. The bone chapel in Evora is an astonishing place to witness, and the other sites were incredible to experience as well. The wine tasting was near the wineries with informative staff and though we have had more direct winery tours in other places, we both really enjoyed it and left with a few bottles. The whole day was memorable and one of the highlights of our week spent in Lisbon.Written December 8, 2024
- jean-jacques7770 contributionsMost Interesting Day Tour EverThis was by far one of the best tours I've taken worldwide. It was a surprise because I didn't know much about Sintra nor the incredible architecture involved in the Regaleira Estate. The gardens are incredibly impressive but Palacio de Regaleira is a blend of majestic Manueline and Gothic influences. Every inch of the palace has ornate carving work and Freemasonry symbolism with pavilions, galleries and gazebos. The Initiation Well part of the grounds is the most memorable, especially if you are energized by architecture, landscaping, and esoteric mysteries. Also, I've read many full-length articles online with countless photos, and none of them properly captured what this place really is. The tour is composed of 2 legs, with several breaks to explore Sintra. The first leg is the exploration of the Regaleira Estate, which will blow your mind. There is a 90 minute break where you can find a restaurant to chill, enjoy a meal while discussing the crazy experience you just had, and have a few glasses of wine or whatever sounds good. The second leg is the Pena Palace tour, which is quite fascinating on its own, especially if you want to know how royalty lived between the 1500s and 1800s. There are more antiquities and heirlooms in this tour than I've seen in quite some time. If you know what to look for it is obvious that all of the Portugese Elite were deeply involved in the occult as revealed in the architecture, frescos, artwork, and carvings. At the end of the Pena Palace tour be sure to observe the lineage and pedigree charts which reveal (through ommission) an eventual bloodline fusing into the British Monarchy when royalty fled to England in the early 20th Century. That alone is fascinating. My guide, João (John), struck a balance between factual information, speculation, and some key insider info. If you go on this tour, ask for him specifically. Like all of Portugal, wear walking shoes with good support, and be ready for paying attention to detail. If you are looking for mindless activity this is not the tour for you. It is very stimulating and will require a desire for experiencing the most unique tour in all of Southern Portugal.Written December 6, 2024
- Michelle S0 contributionsDo you love to study the Occult? Go to Sintra!we took an uber from Lisbon to Sintra for a quick day trip. No reservations made. We hit a local brewpub, a jewelry shop, and spent hours exploring the Regaleira. I could spend another entire day here. If you enjoy Dan Brown novels and the occult, this one is a deep dive to research.Written December 5, 2024
- shelley0380 contributionsWell worth itThe guides Enish & Myriam were great - very knowledgeable & very friendly. I’ve never done a tour led by an opera singer before & she was amazing. This is definitely a tour that requires some fitness as it involves walking on cobbles & hills - like most of Lisbon too! I’d recommend taking a waterproof and comfortable non slip shoes - the weather at Pena Palace was significantly different to that at Sintra. Well worth a visitWritten November 22, 2024

This tour, and our guide Silva, was an amazing peek into some of the history and beauty that Sintra has to offer. - BoardingPass918190 contributionsI think I said enoughOur host, Miriam was the best thing on the trip. Although the attractions are beautiful and of much historical significance, she brought them to life with her enthusiasm, in depth knowledge and passion for her profession. Oh she also surprised not only us but many other visitors when she broke out in spontaneous operatic melody, much to everyone’s delight. A very talented and lovely lady.Written November 15, 2024
- joshsT7109TM0 contributionsMake like Nike and Just Do ItDid this tour on Saturday. Myriam, our tour guide for Team Sporting Lisbon (this I visited the Estádio da Luz the day before - oops! 😬). She was very knowledgeable about the places that we visited, providing lots of information that would have been lost on me had I visited these places on my own. As I was sorted into team Green, I didn’t have as much interaction with our other tour guide (I apologise but I have forgotten her name). However, from what I did hear, she was equally as knowledgeable and approachable. Myriam also entertained us through her virtuosity with classical singing at places round the Regaleira where such performances would have been conducted. This brought the history of the place to life. The best part was the Regaleira with its fascinating stories, architecture and grounds. It was picturesque from start to finish. Pena Palace was also stunning with its upper courtyard overlooking the forest and ocean through a succession of arches, the multicoloured walls, the vivid stained glass windows and the symbolism in the architecture. If you have to pick between the two then go with the Regaleira. If your budget allows it though, then do this tour. It was the highlight in a holiday of amazing places. Thank you to our tour guides and bus driver for a wonderful experience! To Myriam and our driver, I promise I will give the Jose Alvalade a visit the next time I’m in Lisbon before deciding whether I am red or green 😅Written November 13, 2024

- Rockoctopus0 contributionsFantastic Tour - go book!We had a fantastic trip yesterday with our guide Jojoa. There were a few teething problems outside of his control like an accident on the motorway just outside of Lisbon, but Jojoa managed all issues like a champ and kept our trip on time. There was so much to see and do but enough time was allocated at all destinations so it didn't feel rushed. I also liked that a lot of people had booked but they split everyone into small groups instead of putting everyone onto a giant bus. Our guide was so knowledgeable and funny - we ended the trip tired but super happy. I definitely recommend!!Written October 18, 2024

This is a full day tour well worth the money. We had Barbara as our guide and she was very knowledgeable and helpful. We were picked up a few minutes early so we could reach Pena Palace (our first stop) slightly before it opened and did not have to wait too long in the lines. Barbara explained the history and specialties of all the places we visited in an interesting way. There was plenty of time given at each stop and we did not feel rushed at any time. Although the tour was supposed to be only eight hours long, it was well over eight hours by the time we returned. There was also very heavy traffic on our way back to Lisbon, but Barbara maintained her cool while driving at the end of a long day. All in all, it was a day well spent and made extra enjoyable by the good service we received.

Barbara was a wonderful tour guide for the day! We travelled as a family of 6, and Barbara was extremely accommodating, knowledgable and we enjoyed being around her and learning from her. Barbara safely drove us around the various sites for the day, gave use useful information about all of the spots we were seeing, and always had a big smile on her face. Although the full-day tour is a long day, she was able to keep us energized and excited, and I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested!

This was an excellent trip that I would recommend. A lot of companies offer this standard itinerary and I think for the most part it works. Our guide Savio was very knowledgeable and friendly. The highlight is the Pena palace at Sintra, which we visited first thing to avoid the crowds. The guided tour offered by Savio was also very interesting. The only drawback I found was that sometimes it was a bit hard to follow along with the commentary, since inside the palace is quite tight. We were about 20 people which was totally fine in general but except for inside the palace itself. The visit to Cascais was also nice, but could actually be skipped in favor of more time at Sintra since the area has more palaces and trails that could be explored. We could have also made a stop at the cabo de inferno in Cascais, since that seemed to be a highlight but was unfortunately too far from our drop off point in Cascais. However, those were minor issues in an otherwise great trip. I would definitely recommend it.

Sintra is worth visiting, just take a Uber (€20-25) and do the self guided tour in the palace. It gets very busy very fast, but it’s also very foggy and misty early so there is really isn’t a perfect time to visit.
The palace of Sintra is not good for big tour group like ours (22 people). Each room could fit about 4-6 people, so when the guide is talking in the room, most of us are stuck 2-3 rooms back and have no idea what the guide is saying. Our guide also kept saying ‘this painting’ ‘that portrait’ instead of being descriptive (on the right next to XXX) so made it really hard to follow. The lunch recommendation from the guide was terrible (see Sintra Terrace review). We generally found the service at Sintra to be a huge contrast from Lisbon, where in Sintra they are so obviously sick of the hoards of tourists that descend on the little town.
It was a 30 min ride from Lisbon and our guide cracked a few clever jokes here and there, but I’m disappointed as he could’ve use the time to talk about the history of Sintra/Lisbon/Portugal.
The tour also included a pit stop at the most western point of Europe. It was fine and honestly could skip if you don’t have time to burn. Cascais is a busy beach town, cute but nothing extraordinary.

Highly enjoyable day tour from Lisbon center. Ruth was a fantastic tour guide and made it an educational and fun day. The Sintra Palace tour was fantastic and the trip avoided long queues. There was also time for your own picture taking at this magnificent site. Then a stroll through the Sintra center - somewhat touristy of course - but enjoyable. Capo de Rocha is stunning to visit and we were blessed with beautiful weather. We also thoroughly enjoyed the seaside spot (upscale) at Caiscais. I would recommend this tour for almost anyone except young children (under 7 or 8) and older than 70 or any age people for whom climbing steps or inclines would be a problem. Paying for the bus and doing the tourist thing is a good trade off for the amount of ground you can cover in one day. Also it's winding challenging driving and the bus driver was very experienced and we felt safe.

The weather was wonderful, and we were lucky to be in a good group, some Brazilians and some North American. Our guide Andre was completely bilingual and all felt included. He explained the history of the palace and gave us a good tour. The drive to Cascais was through beautiful countryside, the beaches beautiful.
I would recommend this tour to anyone who would like to see a lot in one day but not feel rushed. I have slight mobility issues and was able to keep up. There is a bus up to the palace and Andre kept us moving but at a gentle pace

Our group arrived early to the pick up point as instructed but it took over 30 minutes for us to leave. We were told our bus was in traffic only to discover it had been there the entire time but the guide did not notice it. We were told in advance that the workers at Peña Palace were on strike so we’d be going to Quinta De Regaleira instead and we’d be able to see the famous well and should get right in. When we arrived, we were placed in a long line and left there by our tour guide who told us to wait there while he confirmed which line we should wait in (ticketed or non-ticketed). During this time, several large tour groups passed us in line (despite being told earlier by our guide that there was no priority today). As we made our way closer to the line, our tour guide asked us to block others from skipping the line, which resulted in hostility from other guests who felt entitled to skip. We ended up waiting 53 minutes to enter the castle. Once we entered, the guide gave us a tour which was mostly well paced. At the end of the tour, he told us we had one hour left which we could use to go get lunch (not enough time to do that in busy Sintra) or wait in line for 1 hour to see the well that we were told we’d all be able to see. We settled for looking at a smaller well and walking through the caves. We left to get some snacks as he told us we’d have some time to also eat in Caiscas which we assumed would have more time for dining. After leaving the castles, he took us to the westernmost point of Europe for about 30 minutes and then went to Caiscas for a total of 45 minutes. We got lunch but didn’t have time to see the beach and were rushed back to the bus. Overall, the tour is not well paced, it all felt very rushed and there definitely was no line skipping involved. I understand that the tour guide was doing the best he could but the lack of communication and inconsistencies were frustrating to navigate. We all felt we would’ve been better off just renting a car and going to those places on our own.

Loved it and thought Maria our tour guide was superb!!! Well worth the money and time of this trip. We felt totally safe in her care!! Maria was entertaining, fun and extremely informative. She went out of her way to recommend local sites, cuisine and places to go, The trip was a fabulous mix and gave us a real on-site into the local area. As we are looking to eventually move to Portugal this trip really cemented that decision!!

I had already taken the train to sintra to see Quinta da Regaleira so I was hoping to get more knowledge on this tour and Mario delivered!! He was an amazing tour guide - very warm and personable and made sure everyone heard the information and didn’t get lost when the crowds started to get bigger at the end. Mario was very knowledgeable and entertained all my questions (I was the chatty one in the group) and he offered to take my picture too.
**Also, it was so much more relaxing than taking the train! Everyone (all adults) comfortably fell asleep on the way home.
Thank you for creating such a great experience! Muito obrigada, Mario!!

AVOID TUGATRIPS! we had booked in a tour to Sintra and Peña Palace on 2 June 2023. I booked through Trip.com and received a confirmation email with the booking details. Myself and my partner attended the pick up location at 8:10am as instructed for an 8:20am departure. Tugatrips never showed up. There were 10 of us waiting, one woman called the provider and they said that the pick up location had changed and they sent an email with a new location. None of the 10 people had received the email. We were left stranded and Tugatrips refused to come pick us up. I called Tugatrips and they advised that I could request a refund through Trip.com. I contacted Trip.com and they followed up with Tugatrips who then advised that I had cancelled the booking, which was a lie. They are scammers, and I lost out on $220 Australian. They would have made quite a profit off the poor people who missed out that day. I would give them a 0 out of 5 if I could.

Written May 31, 2022
No pickup. The meeting point at Mundial Hotel. Not very well organized, as there were six guides with hand written pieces of paper with the name of the participants, for around 50-100 people, but in the end no one was left out or not taken care of. It could be better

Is the 3 hours of touring the palacio da pena and 1.5 hours in Sintra enough time for us to go to Quinta da Regaleira separately and to still have lunch? We see other tours with 1.5 hours in both the palace and Quinta da Regaleira. We appreciate your honesty.
Also, if the tour arrives in Cascais around 2pm, we are considering taking separate transportation back to Porto to spend more time there. Is it easy to get back?
Written May 17, 2022
There is not enough time to separate and go to Quinta da Regaleira.
The Cascais part is at the end of the tour. So you can certainly go back on your own.
Cascais is about 45 minutes by car to Lisbon.
