I absolutely loved this tour! I looked at a few Cascais/Sintra tours on Trip Advisor/Viator and finally decided to go with this one. It did not disappoint! This tour not only has the most stops at various beautiful places, but you also get a guided tour (and the ticket price is included!) of Pena Palace. Carolina was my guide and she was AWESOME! She really cared about our group and our experience, making sure that everyone was happy and safe the entire time. We hit some bad weather at the end of the day and she kept a smile on her face and made sure we were all comfortable. Highly recommend!

Our tour guide, Rita, was excellent because she wove together the history, the culture, and the charm of Portugal and its people. Besides the exquisite beauty of these selected tour sites, Rita explained the why of the UNESCO World Heritage designation of the Sintra area. I highly recommend this small-sized tour (only 8 folks from around the world it turned out) with a giant affect. Marieta Hutchison, San Marcos, TX, USA.

Maria picked us up on time (there were six in our van, and I was traveling solo). We starred in Sintra and ended in Cascais (“Cash cash”, Maria told us the locals call it because it costs so much to live there). Both town are lovely but Sintra is really special in my opinion. Very small and tucked into lush hillsides, with wonderfully picturesque vistas when you walk up into the hills. Unfortunately the Pena Castle was shut to tourists by gov’t order (high fire hazard at the moment) so Maria had gotten in touch prior to the tour to make sure we still wanted to participate. I didn’t really care because I just wanted to see the town more than anything (I hate moving through tourist sites, feeling like cattle, anyhow), but we got to see the other castle that’s right in the town. She gave us time to wander a bit so one of the other gals on the tour and I found a really special place to lunch, with a view of the town. If you can, I recommend walking up the hill away from the crowd.
She took us to a lookout — furthest West Point of the continent — and we spent a short time there looking at the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Then to Cascais, a typical upscale European beach town. We were only there for an hour so I had to decide between walking around the town or having a dip in one of the two small but nice-looking beaches. I decided to walk around, which was enjoyable but not terribly unique. I think I’d have preferred more time getting closeup with some of the very special architecture of the small palaces/mansions in the area, but there’s only so much you can do in a day. The entire outing lasted 8 hours, and Maria gave tidbits of historical information about what we were seeing as we were driving (sit at the front of the van if you want yo be able to hear…I was fortunate to have the front passenger seat), and let us to do our own thing at the various drop off points. I recommend.

We were greeted by Carolina/Cat(?) who was very knowledgeable throughout the whole tour. The visit to Sintra was quick but all we needed as it was very cold and windy (it is colder and windy in Sintra than it is in Lisbon so dress accordingly). I was especially interested to see a cork tree so Carolina/Cat made a stop for us to see one and explained the growth system/cropping of the Cork tree which sounds boring but was very interesting!
We lunched in Cascais and had a look down the pretty streets then visited The Pena Palace and gardens which were well worth a visit. All in all a fab day with complete strangers who felt like friends by the end of the tour.
Worth every penny, thank you.

Yes, as the title headlines Carolina is GREAT guide; another said “she is the best ever”. She is also an accomplish driver, navigating the tight curvature of the road and the narrow parking spaces. Wow!

She provided a good level of context without going too deep unless we asked for the details. That mostly came during the drive going to the next place. Another, most importantly, is the enthusiasm she brings and the way she conveys how much time we have in each spot. So if a place doesn’t require 45 minutes she’ll say xx minutes will give you the freedom to do these things. Nicely done 😀

Appreciative of stopping first at Sintra, not the palace further up the hill, so that we can try the local pastries in the relative quiet of the morning before the Big tour buses come rambling in. Piriquita is the bakery to go to for the local specialties.

There are many well written write-ups about the Palace so I will not venture there except to say the two most interesting part of the residence are the uniquely designed ceilings with a cross hatch pattern (Carolina mentioned the proper term, but am a poor listener..) and the super roomy kitchen with copper cooking ware perfectly hung. The scene is reminiscent of a Williams and Sonoma showroom kitchen. Seriously.

Like all tour guides Carolina likes to travel and will one day make a return trip to Japan. Ask her about her first trip😀

There are many great guides with Lisbon Riders upon reading the reviews and am biased along with another from the tour that she is GREAT!

My trip to Sintra & Cascais was an amazing day, made more perfect by our tour guide Carolina. Right from the start she was so kind and accommodating, which continued throughout the trip. The drive itself was beautiful as we headed up the mountain, and Carolina was an absolutely perfect and safe driver. The vehicle we were in rode very smoothly, which made the ride more comfortable. At each stop, Carolina provided history & background and was so good about answering questions. Her English is perfect, it made it so easy for all of us on the tour to engage with her and each other in depth. What made it nice too was we had a little free time on each stop to explore a little on our own. The Palace was so awesome & unique to see, as well as the lush “romantic” gardens leading up to it. The stop we made at the most western point on the coast had jaw dropping views. Just gorgeous! Cascais was great to see, and I loved checking out the fishing boats in the little harbor. I absolutely want to come back to all the places we visited. Thank you Carolina for my best day in Lisbon. You are an incredibly knowledgeable & fun guide!

Even though I was the only person who booked this tour due to the low season, Tania picked me up at the location on time. The arrangement was absolutely perfect: Sintra town and several picturesque villages close to the ocean in the morning, lunch at Cascais and afternoon at the Pena Palace.

Tania introduced every location thoroughly and interestingly (as I said, she is very good at telling stories!) and we didn't stop talking throughout the whole tour. I really learnt a lot about Portuguese society, history and people. When I was walking around inside the palace and heard some other visitors who were confused about the history of the palace and the royal family, I was so glad I joined this tour and everything was clear to me! :)

Obligado, Tania!

We loved Carolina so much!! She was the best tour guide for a whole day experience. We drove from Lisbon to the Sintra old town and the down the coast to the most western part of Portugal, then to Cascais and back to Peña palace. She gave us ample time for photos and to do our own thing at each place. At Peña palace she gave us a more detailed tour and talked a lot about the history. At Peña palace, we had to walk up a 10 minute hilly walk to the very top of the castle, but she gave us a nice history of the beautiful gardens!! If you don’t like to walk, there was a tram you can take to the top for €3 but she gave us plenty of time to rest on the way up!! It was really cold so I recommend bringing a jacket. Highly recommend this trip!!!

This was a fabulous day! My wife Debbie and I joined 5 other people and our guide, Tania. The areas we visited are close to Lisbon so it wasn’t hard to get there. We saw fabulous stuff! Tania was our driver and guide. She is exceptional and a lot of fun. The tour was well organized; Tania knew her stuff. Saw great stuff, learned a ton, ate great food and had a lot of laughs along the way. I’d be remiss to not give big props to our group- it was a fun crowd and that made it all the more worthwhile. Can’t recommend it enough!

I can't say enough great things about our experience with Lisbon Riders. Nunu was an absolutely superb guide for our travels to Sintra and Cascais - he was knowledgable, talkative and just plain fun, and our experience was further enhanced by Manu who drove us and added further "color" to the different sights that we visited. We learned a ton about Portuguese history, culture, food, you name it! All of the stops on our trip provided something different to enjoy. The town of Sintra was adorable and we enjoyed some delicious pastries while there. On the way to Cascais, we stopped along the shore line and saw the power of nature in full view with a stunning surf from the cliffs. The Pena Palace was just plain extraordinary. We had a terrific day, a real highlight of a couple of weeks of European travels, and I would 100% recommend to anyone to go with Lisbon Riders on their trip to Sintra.
