- Hoyaken0 contributionsNot the Best! The trip was booked well in advance as an English language tour over seven hours. We were assigned to an 8 passenger van with 3 Spanish speaking passengers and 5 English speaking passengers. While the tour guide spoke both languages, he spoke for much of the trip in Spanish focusing on his conversation with a bilingual passenger sitting in the front seat. While billed as 7 hours, the guide noted from the outset that it would be 9 to 10 hours. This was a problem for us. The visits to Fatima and Obidos were very good. Lunch in Nazare was awful. The guide recommended two restaurants. The first was full. The second was closed. We were on our own and pressed for time. Not recommended.Written September 23, 2024
- Nova_Scotia_tourista0 contributionsDay Trippin At Its Finest With Lisbon Riders! We had the absolutely perfect day trip out of Lisbon with Carolina! She was not only a genuine and lovely person, but a top tier, knowledgeable guide, AND one of the best drivers you will ever experience! We had been in Lisbon for a week and were ready for a new experience, which we certainly got! We visited 3 distinctly different towns ...Fátima was a pilgrimage site - interesting but we chose to spend a brief time here so we could have more time in Óbidos. The second village was Nazaré- a fabulous coastal town best known for biggest surfer waves in the world. We had a delicious seafood lunch with a spectacular ocean view here, that Carolina had arranged for us. Our last stop was the medieval village of Obidos, very much as it was hundreds of years ago - one of my favourite experiences of my whole Portugal trip. I highly recommend doing this day trip with Lisbon Riders. They are a very professional , organized company, who communicate promptly. We were a group of 7 so greatly appreciated the option of a private tour with pick up at our Airbnb, in a spacious air conditioned van. They book up quickly so don't hesitate to reserve your spot now!Written September 23, 2024

- Vinisha A0 contributionsa unique day trip :)Tanya was a wonderful guide! This was our first time to Portugal, and all of the destinations she chose along the path were absolutely stunning. She was entertaining the whole way, and provided excellent suggestions on how to enjoy our stay in Lisboa. Her passion for the country really shined through. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to see the best sites, enjoy a beautiful winery and spend a whole day away from the tourist crowds.Written September 17, 2024
- Shrubbo0 contributionsExcellent Tour and Great ValueThis is a great day trip packing in a lot of sites in a short amount of time. Diogo was a fantastic guide and did a great job making sure we were all comfortable and engaged. I (and someone else on the tour) could've sworn it listed an additional site and was confused why we weren't stopping there. Diogo didn't hesitate to make it right and fit a stop in there for us, and I really appreciate the extra effort. If I had one critique it's the first stop at the gift shop in Fatima. Feels unnecessary and too long, would rather spend more time elsewhere than a store that sells mostly religious stuff. But otherwise can't recommend this tour enough. You see so much.Written September 16, 2024
- Navigator072329398520 contributionsDo not miss!It was the highlight of our stay in Lisbon. The pace of the tour was perfect for myself and my 78 year old mom who isn’t able to typically keep up in crowds. The three stops were unique and deeply rooted in historical significance. Our tour guide Carolina was an absolute gem. She was so informative and honestly gave us a magical experience.Written September 16, 2024

- MKSlovestotravel0 contributionsThree Different Cities; Three Fabulous OfferingsWhat a wonderful time to enjoy the offerings of Portugal by visiting three different experiences in three different settings! Each was beautiful and amazing in their own way, and the guide provided us with time to take it all in -- without rushing here, there, and everywhere. Each city has great views and enough photo opportunities to make you very happy. And being with a small-group tour adds to the enjoyment of the day so that you're not lost among the crowd and just another number. Top notch tour!Written September 6, 2024
- 914janetp0 contributionsbest guideit was nice to have such a small group (8) ride in a comfortable van. our tour guide, Diogo, was fantastic. He was a wealth of information, very personable, and really got to know everyone on the trip and called us by name. He made a special trip to get some pure olive oil because someone was interested in trying and buying some. I won’t spoil the surprise, but he gave us an extra special treat in Obidos. I highly recommend, the trip was fun, we got to see a lot of lisbon, and our guide can’t be beat!Written September 4, 2024

I chose Lisbon Riders for our small group tour to Sinatra & Cascais because I notice their itinerary covered some interesting spots like Azenhas Do Mar and Caso Da Roca (even though they were quick stopovers). I enjoy nature, coastal sand wild rugged scenery a lot and thought it was a good mix into the itinerary which also focuses on Peña Palace abd it’s grounds. I booked the tour for my spouse and I about 3 months beforehand and we were picked up promptly together with 6 other people. Inez is our tour guide and she is a good driver, a wealth of knowledge and very efficient. Though we had rainy weather, she was able to take us through the itinerary and made an enjoyable day for us. I love the coastal area a lot, the lunch break on our own at Cascais and the short walk Ines took us in a part of the park at Peña Palace. We didn’t had to queue to enter the Palace as she had ready tickets for all of us. I highly recommend Lisbon Riders for this tour given that they cover coastal areas I like to see too in addition to Sinatra and Cascais.

We were greeted by Carolina/Cat(?) who was very knowledgeable throughout the whole tour. The visit to Sintra was quick but all we needed as it was very cold and windy (it is colder and windy in Sintra than it is in Lisbon so dress accordingly). I was especially interested to see a cork tree so Carolina/Cat made a stop for us to see one and explained the growth system/cropping of the Cork tree which sounds boring but was very interesting!
We lunched in Cascais and had a look down the pretty streets then visited The Pena Palace and gardens which were well worth a visit. All in all a fab day with complete strangers who felt like friends by the end of the tour.
Worth every penny, thank you.

Our tour guide, Rita, was excellent because she wove together the history, the culture, and the charm of Portugal and its people. Besides the exquisite beauty of these selected tour sites, Rita explained the why of the UNESCO World Heritage designation of the Sintra area. I highly recommend this small-sized tour (only 8 folks from around the world it turned out) with a giant affect. Marieta Hutchison, San Marcos, TX, USA.

This tour was absolutely wonderful! Our guide, Tania, was brilliant company and knows EVERYTHING ;-) Her knowledge and passion for the areas really added to our appreciation. There was only me and my partner on the tour and it has left us with really special memories. I hope as things open up again this tour gets busy as it was great value and a real highlight of our trip! Thanks Tania and Lisbon Riders for making a trip at this strange time so stress-free and magical x

I'm in awe of how Carolina was such a careful driver and also such an informative, engaging tour guide. It was very cool to go to Cascais with a native, but Sintra was the standout spot for me. And Carolina was masterful at leading conversation and sharing so much about Portuguese history and also current events. Even when an ignorant attendee said offensive things, Carolina expertly and patiently addressed the comments (and they were doozies!) and made those who were offended feel safe. It was a jam-packed day and yet it was relaxing. I highly recommend this tour for seeing a lot right outside of Lisboa. And thankfully, there were perfectly timed bathroom stops built in to the long itinerary.
A couple of minor bummers:
We didn't think the "pillow" pastries in Sintra were anything special.
We ran to the restroom at "the end of the world" and missed the entire stop because some other guests complained it was too windy there (Carolina was very willing to let us go check out the windy spot, but everyone else wanted to leave, and we didn't want to hold them up).
We didn't like the food at Tasting Table in Cascais. Maybe it's more of a wine spot.
Some tips:
Bring a swimsuit for the Cascais stop. There's enough time to go to the beach, which has a little inflatable water park. The beach is free; there's a charge for the inflatables.
Bring Euros. One bathroom stop charged to use the facilities.
Be prepared to walk a lot to get to Pena Palace. There was an injured senior on our trip and because of a strike, bus transportation to the top of the hill wasn't running. Carolina was so sweet about making this guest feel comfortable. Can you tell how much I adore Carolina?
Also, consider wearing pants and bringing a sweater. It can be cool and windy at Pena Palace and the end of the world.

Even though I was the only person who booked this tour due to the low season, Tania picked me up at the location on time. The arrangement was absolutely perfect: Sintra town and several picturesque villages close to the ocean in the morning, lunch at Cascais and afternoon at the Pena Palace.
Tania introduced every location thoroughly and interestingly (as I said, she is very good at telling stories!) and we didn't stop talking throughout the whole tour. I really learnt a lot about Portuguese society, history and people. When I was walking around inside the palace and heard some other visitors who were confused about the history of the palace and the royal family, I was so glad I joined this tour and everything was clear to me! :)
Obligado, Tania!

Maria picked us up on time (there were six in our van, and I was traveling solo). We starred in Sintra and ended in Cascais (“Cash cash”, Maria told us the locals call it because it costs so much to live there). Both town are lovely but Sintra is really special in my opinion. Very small and tucked into lush hillsides, with wonderfully picturesque vistas when you walk up into the hills. Unfortunately the Pena Castle was shut to tourists by gov’t order (high fire hazard at the moment) so Maria had gotten in touch prior to the tour to make sure we still wanted to participate. I didn’t really care because I just wanted to see the town more than anything (I hate moving through tourist sites, feeling like cattle, anyhow), but we got to see the other castle that’s right in the town. She gave us time to wander a bit so one of the other gals on the tour and I found a really special place to lunch, with a view of the town. If you can, I recommend walking up the hill away from the crowd.
She took us to a lookout — furthest West Point of the continent — and we spent a short time there looking at the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. Then to Cascais, a typical upscale European beach town. We were only there for an hour so I had to decide between walking around the town or having a dip in one of the two small but nice-looking beaches. I decided to walk around, which was enjoyable but not terribly unique. I think I’d have preferred more time getting closeup with some of the very special architecture of the small palaces/mansions in the area, but there’s only so much you can do in a day. The entire outing lasted 8 hours, and Maria gave tidbits of historical information about what we were seeing as we were driving (sit at the front of the van if you want yo be able to hear…I was fortunate to have the front passenger seat), and let us to do our own thing at the various drop off points. I recommend.

So pleased that we booked this tour with Lisbon Riders. Our guide Manu was very friendly and knowledgeable. The highlight was the walk up to Pena Palace and the visit inside the palace. We also spent enjoyable time in Cascais...a stop at Cabo da Roca...& Azenhas do Mar (disappointing photo op due to cranes & scaffolding which is temporary of course)
The only glitch for us was the meeting place in Lisbon. We struggled to find it. It was in front of a high end men’s store on Avenida da Liberdade, but the sign wasn’t obvious to us. Perhaps because we’re “geezers” lol.

Olá Carol! Thank you so much for your kind words! I will let Manu know that you appreciated the day with him and all the stops along the way. The cranes at Azenhas do Mar were not the best part of the tour, but you are right, they are temporary. Obrigado! You’re always welcome on Lisbon Riders! All the best

I loved the whole experience. It must be magic, I had the opportunity to be alone for this experience but my guide knew how to put me at ease. It was very consistent with hygienic standards against the virus.
I loved the landscapes and the explanation given by my guide.
I recommend it more than 100% this experience, I can't wait to return to Portugal with the same guide but for another experience.
I send you a lot of love and see you next time 🥰😁😁

Inês was personable, demonstrated great care for each of the eight of us on the tour, and knew a tremendous amount about each of the sights we visited during this full day experience. When rain made the steep roads slick, Inês was able to expertly navigate us safely to our destination. We appreciated her guidance about where to eat, and never felt pressured to make specific choices about where to spend our money. The tour definitely exceeded our expectations, and was a great value for the money.

One of our travelers may on occasions need to rest from walking. Will that be a problem? Are there alot of hills while walking in Sintra?
Written January 19, 2023
Not really. Walking up the steps and small hills for shopping. The guide drove us up to the area to catch the bus to the palace. A fair amount of walking in the palace and grounds, but stopping to rest should not be a problem.

Is there time to explore Sintra on our own? What area do we have lunch?
Written October 15, 2019
You get about an hour to explore the town of Sintra. You do not get to tour the palace on your own except for a small period of time. There are other castles that you can visit, but this tour only covered the Pena Palace.
