Had two full day small group tours with TheCoolTours Lisbon and absolutely loved it. Had Carlos Dias as our guide for both days and he is exceptionally knowledgeable (for both Sintra/Cascais and the Templar history). Expect this tour to last 8-9 hours subject to traffic. If we return we'd love to have him as our guide again, especially for anything history related.

Towards the end you will have a lunch after visiting the final castle but note that on our tour there was no stop between leaving the restaurant and dropoff in one of the two pre-agreed locations. Given the length of time, and that the drive is on a highway, I don't see why a rest area stop for restroom use couldn't be added on the return (and should be). It was clear that by the time we arrived in central Lisbon, everyone was rushing to find a restroom somewhere.

The tour was great. Our guide, Rickey, was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodated special requests. We had 5 people in our group and everyone was happy with the tour. It was a long day but we were never bored. The tour ended with lunch at a great restaurant in Tomar -- my husband claimed it was the best food in Portugal. This was really a fun day out and we learned a lot. Highly Recommend.

Every moment of this tour was terrific. The guide Ricardo (Ricky) was excellent and provided a lot of information that we had never had (he has a masters in history) and he was extremely accommodating and gracious. It was a full van (8 guests) and he took great care of every one of us. I highly recommend using Cooltours for all your tours in Lisbon.

The tour was just what we wanted. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the history and the sites we went to see. The pickup at our hotel was on time and a nice feature of the tour. Having the admission tickets included in the price is so much easier than tours that have travelers purchase during the tour. The weather was perfect and the group was small - two couples. It was nice that none of the venues was crowded at all and we were able to take lots of pictures without any trouble and take as much time as we wanted. The Convent of Christ in Tomar was fascinating, and our guide told us many things about it as we walked through. It was all so interesting. We ate lunch together in Tomar and it was very, very good. We really enjoyed our day and are very happy we went on this tour. Thanks Cooltours!

I participated in this tour on 7/30/22 with Carlos as our guide. I was so impressed with the immense knowledge that Carlos provided on the tour - it made it more valuable and worth while - I could not have done / learned this on my own. Carlos engaged in conversation, answered all of our questions and kept us on our toes. He also surprised us with a treat known as “chicken cheese”… not at all what I expected!! And lastly took us to INfante for lunch! I would highly recommend this tour and with Carlos if you are looking for something spectacular!! Michelle

A memorable experience bought to life by the passion and knowledge of our guide, Miguel. He explained everything - from the origins of the Knights Templar and their subsequent expansion into Portugal, Templar building techniques, sources of wealth and most interesting of all the symbolism present in both the Church of Santa Maria and Tomar Castle.
The trip also included some special touches - the boat trip to Almoural Castle, the sweet treat in Constancia and free time in Tomar (with lunch recommendations from Miguel).
I think the quality of the guide is central to the enjoyment of any tour. Miguel is well organised, enthusiastic about history, moved from English to Spanish with ease and generous with his time in answering all our questions.

We enjoyed this tour so much that we chose to do it again when our adult son came to visit! The selected sites that are visited are stunning and our excellent tour guide Daniel is very organized and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour!
Wear good walking shoes. Go with the recommended restaurant for lunch. :)

We did the Templar tour with Carlos and had a great time. He was very knowledgeable and funny and definitely had a passion for what he does.

It might have been nice to explore the town a little for lunch, but the restaurant they’re partnered with was really good.

Ricky picked us up, just minutes from our Air BNB, along with a few other travelers on our way to some cool castles, churches, rivers, and stuff. Very knowledgeable and good spirited, we stopped at a wonderful castle, which we had to ourselves for most of the time. After a good 20 minutes, we were joined by a field trip of kindergartners (so cute and brave). Then we made a few more stops that were awesome sights and then there was lunch! The wine was fantastic (not that there was a bad one the whole trip), the food and company were good, too. Nice and intimate setting.
We had a great time and have fond memories of this tour, so glad that we booked it. Never would have seen any of these places, areas, otherwise. The only thing (and probably my oversight) was that after the tour, everyone is dropped off in the center of Lisbon, not bad, just not expected. Great time and great pics.

I'm a fan of the Templar if you like anything from this time period, this tour is a must! It was my last full day in Lisbon and was so happy to end my trip with this tour. Small groups are the best. In fact, there were only 3 of us-myself and 2 women from Brazil. The guide was amazing and it had to be a challenge for him to say everything twice. He was an expert and up with my questions and comments. We saw the main castle and convent. I learned that a convent means something different in Portugal, then the small
Templar church and on to the Temlar castle on the river. Spectacular. We had a break for lunch and another small stop for yet ANOTHER delicious, local pastry. This trip is a must. It doesn't start too early and you get back to Lisbon in time for dinner and sangria.
