        Excellent tour and guide!
We took this tour in March of 2023 but It seems my review posted to another site so I apologize. This is my review, a bit late unfortunately... "Alfredo was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, caring and charming. He took care of us and made certain we saw the best parts of each village while providing us an excellent history of the area and the villages. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Alfredo"

        Great half day adventure
Good little adventure. Booked the evening before. Your was promptly confirmed. Met at the pickup site, guide (Alfredo) was there waiting. He was friendly and spoke perfect English. As this was a spontaneous trip, I knew nothing really of the villages. Despite rainy weather, still had a good time. Found the three villages we visited quite interesting. Happy to have some free time to explore. Always happy to have a regional pastry. Bonus of some chestnut liqueur. 4 hours was perfect. Would recommend.

        Studio ghibli village
Was a bit downcast but beautiful regardless. If you haven’t toured one of the rural oldest villages of Portugal this is a must! It definitely felt like straight out of a Studio Ghibli film

        Get out of the City
This is a great half day getaway into the mountains above Coimbra to visit Schist villages that were constructed about 500 years ago. The guide was extremely informative and knowledgeable about the area and the history of what we were seeing. I highly recommend this tour if you’re interested in learning about history and culture of the area.

        Enjoying forest views and nature
Had a lovely experience in Lousa mount looking for wildlife. Lucky enough to spotted a wild boar with young, a red deer, doe, fawn and bucks. Visited a schist village.

Tour of the Schist Villages with Alfredo
We did a half day tour of the Schist Villages with Alfredo this morning, and loved it. Alfredo is a knowledgeable and professional tour operator who brings a lot of flair and experience to the tour. An experienced engineer by profession, Alfredo is an all rounder. The Schist Village are worth visiting both for their unique styles and for the surrounding natural environment.

        Mysterious morning.
Our tour started early. We saw a lot of deers. Alfredo drove us all over Mount Lousa to look for the deer. It was fogy morning so animals looked mysterious between the trees. Very pleasant morning and very much recommended trip.

A memorable morning in the mountains
We are very glad we decided to do a tour of the Schist villages during our stay in Coimbra. Our guide, Alfredo, shared his knowledge and love of the mountains with us as we visited these unique villages made from shale. A pleasant change to get away from the city and experience nature. I also enjoyed tasting the wine made from the Medronho fruit - delicioso! The tour was a great experience and one I would highly recommend.

Book this tour!! You will love it!
The slate stone mountain villiages were amazing and was a trip highlight in Portugal. Alfredo was a great guide, very infomative, he answered my many questions, and was fun to joke with. I enjoyed it so much I booked a 2nd trip with Alfredo to the Roman ruins Conimbriga the next day. I'd recommend either or both!! - Princess Renee👸

        Lovely tour in great nature
Alfonso did a great job showing me this wonderful place of nature. With his Jeep we could go off road on the hiking trails. We also walked a little. Although it was quite hot we saw some deers: Alfonso knows the spots. I had a great time.

        Best adventure in Portugal 🇵🇹
A MUST DO adventure if visiting Coimbra. Stunning scenery and wonderful trip. Our guide was A++ and explained the history of the villages we visited. Would love to return to stay in one of the villages to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the cities. Do not miss this trip. Highly recommend for everyone.

Alfredo is a wonderful tour guide. He picked me up at our mutual location and we were on our way. While traveling to our first destination, he gave a brief overview of Roman history in the area. With a combination of actual sites and very interesting museums (that will keep the attention of children), I gained a better understanding of Roman presence in the area. And walking through Conimbriga, I felt the power and wealth of the Roman Empire. Many of the mosaic floors are in near perfect condition after so many centuries. Alfredo filled in additional details all during the detail. The pacing was perfect both physically and with content. This was a wonderful experience.

The Roman ruins at Conimbriga - the most impressive in Portugal - are an essential visit if you are in the Coimbra area. And you will get so much more out of a visit if you go with Veado Verde guide Alfredo Mateus, who is a hugely knowledgeable and charming companion for the half-day tour. The trip includes visits to the springs and aquaduct that supplied the Roman city of Conimbriga, a brilliant new interactive museum on Roman life, and finally the stunning archeological site itself. The surviving mosaics are superb and in themselves make the trip worthwhile, but there is so much more to see at this truly impressive historical site. And Alfredo brings it all to life with great insight and good humour too. Not to be missed!

Veado Verde tours provided us with a fun afternoon. The interactive museum added context to the Roman ruins, and the local museum at Conimbriga has a nice collection of artifacts from the site. The extensive mosaics remaining at the villas are quite impressive. Alfredo, our guide, was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. We recommend the tour experience highly!

We enjoyed the afternoon touring the ruins and museums. Alfredo was very knowledgeable and his explanations made the place much more interesting. He set the stage at the museum for much of what was to come when we went outside into the ruins. Then, when we were at the ruins he was able to make the Roman way of life much clearer to us.

Alfredo Mateus is a natural as a tour guide, friendly, informative, and enthusiastic about providing a positive experience for his customer. I thoroughly enjoyed the day, it was as if I went on an outing while visiting with a long-time friend, and also learned about the Romans. It’s the best kind of a tour. I highly recommend going with Alfredo!

My wife and I took this tour in July, and it was pretty great. Pickup at our hotel was super convenient. We started with coffee at a local cafe. We visited a museum which was a great intro to the history (which we definitely needed). Then visited the ruins. Amazing. Just amazing. We're from the US so have limited access to Roman ruins and this was our first time. Really great. Thank you!

Alfredo is a very knowledgeable, humurous and interesting guide. He showed us round 3 different locations linked to Conimbriga. Was able to provide very useful background information in an interesting, patient and easygoing style even though he will have done this trip many times before. The PORCS Museum information, display and delivery was excellent. The source of the fresh water aqueduct supply and chat with the local women was special. And Conimbriga tour was amazing. We booked very late and he was able to accomodate us without any problem. Pickup and drop off was easy. Great value and would recommend Alfredo to everyone!

The site itself is very interesting; lots to see. It's very large and there is so much more to excavate, I'm sure. We were disappointed with the tour guide, however, because he really did not provide a lot of information over and above what we could read on the plaques throughout the site.
