Sete Cidades Half-Day Jeep Tour
From $313.20
Overview

Explore the spectacular scenery of Sete Cidades by going on this half-day jeep tour. You won’t have to plan any transport as hotel pickup and drop-off is included. A jeep tour will give you access to areas you couldn’t reach alone, such as volcanic craters, lakes, and off-road viewpoints. Highlights include Empadadas Lake, Canario Lake, Carvao, Vista do Rei, Sete Cidades Lake, and Cerrado das Freiras.

What to Expect
Get off the usual tourist trail on a 3-hour 4WD tour of the Sete Cidades (Seven Cities) region of the Azores island of São Miguel, departing from hotels or the cruise ship terminal of Ponta Delgada.

Explore the west side of the island and the Massif of Sete Cidades, where the volcanic craters gave rise to numerous lakes surrounded by lush vegetation, each with its own unique beauty. See lakes such as Empadadas, and Canário Lake, and the emblematic blue-green waters of Sete Cidades Lake. There are several viewpoints along the way, such as Carvão, and Vista do Rei, where you can contemplate the landscape.

Take the most dramatic dirt trail to the volcano cone. Then, go inside the crater to the small village for a coffee. Off-road again, drive around the lake edge, passing a small peninsula covered by beautiful trees and flowers. Stop to enjoy the birdsong. Continue to the belvederes of Santiago Lake and Cerrado das Freiras for the last chance to capture the wilderness on your camera. Return to Ponta Delgada by the main road, lined with beautiful hydrangeas.

Beautiful island, wonderful guide

These folks ensure you will have an excellent, yet totally safe adventure. Ask to have lunch at the restaurant in September Cidades for top notch Azorian feed. Book ‘em Dano!

Great way to take in the volcanic highlights

This tour is a fine introduction to the volcanic splendour of Sao Miguel. Natacha’s passion for the Azores and her knowledge of their history, culture and environment is really inspiring. Highly recommended.
