About
Rocha Negra Gin is distilled here on the island of São Miguel, a place where black volcanic rock meets the pristine blue Atlantic ocean. Rocha Negra means “Black Rock” and honours the island, formed millions of years ago, from molten lava fighting the sea. Rocha Negra is intrinsically linked to the environment of the Azores. It is on this coastline with its unrelenting and unforgiving jagged edged rocks, that the botanicals found in Rocha Negra grow. It is fair to say that Ali knows something about gin. From a collection spanning almost 400 bottles, one of the largest collections in the world to the history of gin, he is a welcoming host to all. Having "tested" (OK, tasted) thousands of gin and tonics from all corners of the globe. From the busling bars of downtown Bangkok, to the worlds most predicious gin bar in Singapore to the best of London's Gin bars.

It is a premium London Dry gin, which can be perfectly balanced with a garnish of Azorean grown orange, rosemary and a splash of juniper berries to bring out the best in the flavour. Your gin tasting includes a journey through the history of the Azores, the Solar and the citrus trade with the UK as well as learning to make, and enjoying, the perfect Rocha Negra Gin and Tonic. The Solar Branco 1885 Eco-Estate, through your host Ali Bullock, is a proud ambassador for the Rocha Negra Gin brand.

Delightful experience! Ali was a charming and excellent host into the world of gin and tonics. A great antidote to a rainy afternoon - hanging out in a stunning gin library on an estate in the spectacular azorean landscape.

One of Sao Miguels hidden secrets!!!!

I am a Gin lover. I saw Ali's tours online....I absolutely could not pass this opportunity up, so my hubby and I went. It was our first rainy day of our trip, typical of Azores weather(maybe bring an umbrella and good shoes for a walk through the orange trees while sipping your g&t and hearing about the history, so you don't get soaked like me) but meeting Ali brightened things up. He is extremely friendly and welcoming and once I walked through the door to his Gin Library I felt like I had found my happy place. It is the wall of Gin that you are greeted with and I now am aspiring to start my own gin collection. There were two other couples already there for their tasting but we fit right in and Ali said the magic words " let me make you a gin and tonic before we start" It was delish, mmm, mmm.I only wish we had been able to stay longer. Next time maybe I'll book the longer tour. He filled us in on some gin history and a short walk around his up and coming estate, soon to be a boutique hotel/ airbnb. A beautiful place on a hillside overlooking the beautiful land of the Azores. You are in for a real special treat with Ali and his family, dogs, gin and great stories....don't miss this!
