About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- suemB6843IM0 contributionsThis is all you need for Pico! This was a fantastic way to experience Pico Island with 3 couples. Filipe was a fabulous guide. He was knowledgeable about the history of the island, food and wine. These Canadians highly recommend!Written September 19, 2024
- Cosmopolitan7482420 contributionsGreat experienceHighly recommend! Tour guide was very informative. Very enjoyable spending the day with him. A great way to see Pico including some things generally not seen. Definitely do it.Written September 16, 2024
- jenniferrR1080RN0 contributionsFantastic day with Terralta Nature Tours. Our guide was Gabriel. A very nice and engaging young man. He was happy to answer all our questions and any accommodations we requested. He was very knowledgeable of the history of the islands as well as current events. Thank you Terralta Nature Tours and Gabriel for a fantastic day. We are so glad we picked you for your tour of the great island of Pico, Azores.Written September 11, 2024
- O2778BSsusant0 contributionsA must do!This was one of the most enjoyable wine tours that I have ever done (and I have done quite a few!) - a full day excursion, learning about the history of the island and wine production on Pico, tasting some delicious wines as well local brandy and liqueurs, and getting a mini island tour. The spectacular traditional lunch was a particular highlight! Overall, the itinerary was very well thought out well paced. Filipe was a truly excellent guide, very knowledgeable about Pico (and the Azores more generally) and looked after us exceptionally well. Highly recommend, an absolute must do.Written September 10, 2024
- samanthalL3903GW0 contributionsGood way to see a variety of sightsOverall this was a great way to see many of the key sights of the island, and Gabriel, our guide, was very friendly, easygoing, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the day and were glad we did this tour give how limited time we had on the island. The group also was very lively and got along well despite having different first languages. A watchout that others also called out: if the trip is full, it's a very cozy ride in the car without AC. I could see why some reviewers found it less than comfortable. Luckily, it worked out for our group space-wise and comfort-wise. We also didn't read the details closely enough (our fault) and thought we were doing both Gruta das Torres and Casa dos vulcões. One recommendation for Terralta: our group went to Casa dos vulcoes, and I personally would have enjoyed Gruta das Torres more as it seems more unique to the island and adventurous. Not sure how your other travelers feel, but Casa dos vulcoes with the 10-min video and "earthquake simulator" felt anti-climatic—though we did learn a lot and I'm sure some folks enjoy it. Thanks for a great day!Written August 21, 2024
- 235eduardk0 contributionsWorst 4x4 drive at PicoActually, we decided to cancel because we didn’t like the organization of the tour We have expected that it would be a nice 4x4 car with AC and a good guide that would do the tour in English On the contrary we received quite old Land Cruiser that has no AC and has quite hard seats The guide has spoken Portuguese with the whole group, and was speaking to us in English only when we asked him questions (not proactively) So we have paid 200 euros just for non comfortable car with the driver that showed us 2 lakes and 2 viewpoints, and when we visited the natural pool, we didn’t even swim there (just looked at the other people how they swam😂) Quite disappointing experience if you look from this perspective Far more better to visit Azores wine company and do the wine tasting thereWritten August 19, 2024
- Elma M0 contributionsGreat tour!Great tour with great guide. Total experience about wine but also Pico in general. Food was great in real Portugese ambiance. Mustdo in Pico.Written July 21, 2024
- maggiea7530 contributionsAn engaging dive into Pico’s wine culture, food, and history! An excellent tour! We spend the day exploring the north and west coast of the island, with an delicious stop for lunch at a local Azorean food spot, and one stop in the morning for a liqueur and brandy tasting and a stop in the late afternoon for a wine tasting. The rest of the day was filled with excellent views and stops at lookout points and our guide was great! He was knowledgeable of the rich history of the island’s wine culture and a great conversationalist. Overall this tour was well worth it!Written May 23, 2024
- adverb0 contributionsDo this!We are so glad we booked this food and wine tour. The day FLEW by, we were so engrossed in the views and the information and of course the tastes of Pico Island. This tour made us wish we could stay longer in Pico and Azores.Written May 18, 2024
- Vander1110 contributionsAmazing tour of pico islandFelipe was an amazing guide! We toured the west side of Pico and saw the rugged landscapes and well maintained houses on the island. We had wine tasting and sampled home made brandies and infusions. The lava tubes were very interesting and definitely something to see! He was able to answer all our questions and took us to scenic locations off the beaten path. Highly recommended!!Written May 7, 2024
- 529felipeq0 contributionsPico an experience with natureFilipe was an excellent guide who is very knowledgeable with Pico and so friendly that we felt like family with him. Muito obrigado.Written May 7, 2024
- Odyssey1687040 contributionsWonderful All-Around Wine ExperienceMy 3 friends and I had a wonderful day on our tour, even with intermittent rain showers. Every stop on the tour was well-planned. Filipe worked around the rain and we were still able to see and do everything on our itinerary. The wineries and lunch were yummy. This was not my first visit to Pico but I learned so much about the history and winemaking practices. I highly recommend this tour for a relaxed but jam-packed day.Written April 19, 2024
- julieeW2200RE0 contributionsEye-Opening Pico Island Day TripFelipe was a fantastic guide! He explained a lot of the history of Pico Island and the Azores, and he showed us some wonderful sites we wouldn’t have seen without a guide. He worked to accommodate our group really well. Not mentioned in the description, but the lunch, at a popular local restaurant, was vegan (and gluten free) friendly.Written April 18, 2024
- Guillaume V0 contributionsThe best tour guide in PicoWonderful experience with Philippe! First we had the evening food and winery tour with Philippe. Great food and great company. Then the next day we did the volcano tour and then the lava flows. The next day we then did a tour of the island. We recommend this as he was such a great guide!Written October 19, 2023
- Ron M0 contributionsFillip knows the AzoresFilip at Terralta was a great tour guide. A wealth of information and knowledgeable about Pico and the Azores. A group of 6 filled his old Range Rover. We could not get up to see the lagoons bc it was too cloudy so his plan B was to sample rum at a rum shop, which was impressive. There’s an Azores app that has mounted cameras throughout points of interest on the island. It’s better to see those cameras rather than driving 2 hrs to see nothing but clouds n rain….so we opted for rum. Buffet lunch at Taberna Pestico I think. Dinner there is yummy tapas. Did the lava tube, which was cool. Drove through the vineyards and walked around and a lot of history was explained and got a real understanding of the Azores. You never know what the Atlantic weather will bring, so you just go with it n make the best of it. So don’t get upset.Written October 12, 2023

Fantastic personalized tour to introduce us to Pico. Filipe was the perfect guide, taking us through the vineyards, to the natural pools along the coast, to a fantastic lunch of Pico’s finest including cheeses, breads, lapas (in season), octopus, tuna and beef, and of course the wine tasting! Filipe was extremely knowledgeable of the geography, history and flora and was flexible and accommodating to our needs (after a crazy flight in!) Highly recommend!
