The tour is great. The boat took me to the island and I got to enjoy 2-3 hours on the most beautiful island the only restaurant on the island is amazing. Everything is so nice and peaceful. Came back to the city on a different boat but it was perfect.

Our guide, Thomas, was knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the beautiful tour of the marshes and wetlands. We gained a new appreciation for the ecosystem and enjoyed gorgeous surroundings while spotting different birds and animals. Arriving at Ilha Deserta was then another fabulous treat after the boat tour. It's a gorgeous and serene area to explore, allowing one to experience the contrasts of oceanside and lagoonside. The restaurant on the island was also wonderful! We were so happy that we booked this excursion; it was a special day during our trip to Faro!

This was an incredible tour. Our tour guide Tom (Tom Cruise) was incredibly knowledgeable and interesting and clearly passionate about his work and the life of the Ria Formosa, which there is lots of! We saw a large range of incredible birds including birds of prey and some birds we had never heard of. Tom answered all of our questions and gave us great tips on where to book to see dolphins which we did the next day. You can see that Tom really cares about the wildlife and the natural park and it was a joy to be taught so much by him. Definitely recommend!

We hadn’t planned to visit Ilha Deserta but we notice it at their hut outside the castle. It was only €10 return for a 45 minute journey to Ilha Deserta. It was great value for money.

Excellent trip. Guide, Tom, extremely knowledgeable and took us to see spoonbills, whimbrels, white storks amongst many other birds in the estuary. He explained the eco system of the estuary and how everything fitted together.

Lovely morning tour of the beautiful Ria Formosa. We ended up with the boat to ourselves, and our guide Gonzalo was knowledgeable and passionate about the bird and sea life - it was a very interesting but also eye-opening experience, raising our awareness of the important conservation work that goes on here. Got to see storks and spoonbills plus some cool diving ones (the name escapes me) feeding. Would recommend binoculars maybe for serious ornothologists to make the most of the experience as often the birds are quite far away. Ilha Deserta where you end up is amazing as well.

Our party of 2 grandparents and a 12-year old grandson had a thoroughly enjoyable and instructive boat trip to Ilha Deserta with Captain Fabio Buchino. He explained the wild life in both English and French, answered all our questions, and gave us a very full understanding of what Ria Formosa is all about.Thank You!

We decided with new moon and high tides to take boat trip out to Faro island and see the ecological wonder that is the Ria Formosa. OMG, this shows how vital it is we ALL help to protect our environment. We blessed with a wonderful guide. I can’t remember his name. A young Marine Biology student from France. He was BRILLIANT. Such a credit to the tour company but more important, here was a guide who devoting his life to the environment. He was the best we ever met. So good ? I taking friends on surprise trip again this Thursday.
This a World heritage site. Where folk working hard to insure that folk can co exist with our feathered friends. 10,000 cormorants migrate to Faro Island. Each eats 1kg of fish a day. That’s 10.000kg of fish where so many depend on the sea to earn. So interesting to hear how conservation can assist industry like fishing and find solutions.
This such a great eye opener folks.
Highly recommend.

I did this tour today & it was really amazing!! Thomas was my tour guide & he provided an enthralling yet interactive experience with ample information about wildlife, culture, & things as small yet interesting as the important flowers in Portugal & the cultural reasons behind their importance. His clear love for marine biology led to a fascinating morning. The trip began with a warm welcome from the staff, getting on the boat, & traveling to the island. The journey to the island was filled with interesting facts even for those of us who aren’t particularly interested in marine biology. When you arrive at the island, after a small cultural experience, you continue on to have free time until your chosen departure time. The island is small (and very beautiful) but I would say two hours is enough to experience what you need to experience, especially because I was alone. That being said, I didn’t feel alone as I got to know the people on the boat (including Thomas who was super friendly). Overall 10/10 would recommend this tour. Today was actually my birthday & I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way than learning about nature & spending some time reflecting & enjoying a peaceful morning! Thank you Thomas!!
