About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- iwmclean0 contributionsCould be betterThe VR experience covers a millenium of history in 8 minutes. Enjoyable, but far too brief. Unfortunately a loud group of kids were seated behind us, and they succeeded in drowning out most of the audio.Written May 30, 2024
- dat_eve0 contributionsLoved itVery pleasant surprise. The story experience was absolutely awesome. Plus the beer terrace with the wide selection of beers is something I did appreciate a lot.Written May 13, 2024
- Linda L0 contributionsSave your Euros.Unfortunately, there is no option to give zero stars. This was a total waste of money. You stand in 7 rooms and watch a silly movie. We decided not to waste our time in Bruges on this activity and kept moving quickly through the rooms by hitting the red buttons next to the doors to escape this boring attraction. This turned it more into a bit of a haunted house experience because the rooms were dark with the added scary fox and whorehouse experience thrown in for good measure. One of the rooms smelled like urine. We weren’t sure if that was supposed to be part of the experience since we stopped following the audio on the headphones. Either way, it was disgusting. Don’t go!Written March 27, 2024
- nil6490 contributionsGreat way to start exploring BruggeThis is a great experience and a good way to get a first feel for the history of Brugge. It provides a nice immersive historical experience of the town which is a great reference for exploring the beautiful city later. Only thing to be improved is that when we first entered the sound was out of sync which caused some confusion but once we managed to get back in sync it was great!Written February 7, 2024
- Arianaflies0 contributionsNot worth itUnfortunately, this was a disappointment. Self guided audio tour takes you through a few rooms with props and tv screens displaying a short movie. Perhaps it was a cool display 30 years ago, but not today, I cannot recommend.Written January 25, 2024
- carlw1350 contributionsGood experience, but doesn’t support Fathers.A good experience that atmospherically illustrated life in Bruges during its height. The VR was especially good, despite being slightly out of focus for my eyes. I have docked a star because of the ridiculous situation in the toilets. Why are the baby changing facilities only in the female toilets? I hate this as a father. It is sexist towards women because it dictates that they do the changing, and it is sexist towards fathers because it invalidates their ability to parent. It is disgraceful that such a prominent tourist attraction should act this way. It is thinking from the 1950s.Written January 15, 2024
- Mark C0 contributionsMediocreJust missed the mark a little bit in all areas. The VR was fairly basic and the story telling part just seemed to drag on. The best part was the tower with views over Bruges. If it was pouring with rain maybe an ok way to spend a couple of hours.Written January 1, 2024
- ASeenath0 contributionsInnovation at its bestWhat an innovative and uniqie experience. The VR tour and story telling was simply amazing. The views from the tower were fantastic. Highly recommend visiting here.Written December 31, 2023
- Lentara710 contributionsUnique Experience!I was pleasantly surprised at this museum. We did the three experience package that included 8 minutes of virtual reality, a walk through the museum, and a climb to the top of the Belfry Tower. We could have skipped out on the virtual reality but still been great. The museum walk through told the story at that time of the making of the Madonna and Child painting by Jan van Eyck. They recreated the smells of the time and you walk through seven rooms as if you were standing right there! The climb to the top of the belfry was okay. There is no real platform so you have to be relatively skinny to get the 360 degree view. This is a must for a first time visitor to Bruges.Written December 26, 2023
- strontium380 contributionsTold off for using disabled toiletVisited Duvelorium and needed the toilet Was advised the disabled toilet was downstairs so took the lift Was met with an angry member of staff on leaving the toilet telling me the disabled toilet is for staff only. Asked where the disabled toilet was for paying customers and was told I had to use the “normal ones” - appalling and discriminatory!Written December 14, 2023
- barbarahecatombe0 contributionsTerrible locker service, small and expensiveThe lockers they offer are too small, even the XL is a joke. And also is expensive. In the XL it only fits one cabin suitcase! And they offer then to leave your heavy bags and enjoy Brugges. Such a bad joke as I wrote.Written November 1, 2023
- alhitchcock10 contributionsSomething like Disneyland, too expensive for what you get.We expected more! It is something more for families with Kids. The best was the VR Part, but it was too short. If you do not have the time for one of the superb museums it might be a nice illustration.Written November 1, 2023
- Elias_Saad0 contributionsA must visit placeThe Historium is located in the Bruges city centre (Market Square) and is easily accessible by public transport. Open every day, including Sundays and public .. In the Historium Story we take you on a time trip to medieval Bruges. Let yourself be swept up in a wonderful love story while walking through 7 historical themed rooms – magnificent medieval backdrops, with film, music and special effects. Using the audio guide you will hear everything about the Golden Age of Bruges and imagine yourself back in the time of Jan van Eyck. The Historium is located on the Market Square, where the Waterhalle used to be. This was the central warehouse for the shipping industry in the thriving trading city. The location has been reconstructed in the attraction and gives your visit an extra dimension. A must visit while in BruggeWritten October 17, 2023
- valerieg6130 contributionsFun and educationalMy family had a terrific time walking through this very clever interactive tour. A few places were a little dark, but my phone flashlight came to the rescue. Keep in mind there are some steps to go up. We skipped the VR headsets, although that looked like fun. The tour ends on a balcony overlooking square. Great views.Written October 13, 2023
- marcip030 contributionsHighly disappointing, not as advertised. The storyline is very weak and not convincing. It’s a soapy love story in medieval times having Bruges in the background. There is nothing about how people lived and worked. The whole experience is far away from the description on their website.Written August 13, 2023

Bought online tickets for priority entrance. There is no priority entrance, just a mob of people snaking their way through ill-defined lines.
Abandoned the first day’s effort to be there early the next day. Tickets said opening at 10, arrived, door opened, people wandered in but entry desk said opening was at 11. Returned a third time. And took the tour.
Who is the audience? Plot is too elementary for adults with basic education; too sophisticated for children. A waste of time and money

Hi. We are sorry to read that you did not enjoy your visit. At busy times, we give priority to people with a ticket over those who do not yet have a ticket. I am also sorry to read that the communication between our website on the one hand and our tickets on the other is ambiguous. I will definitely take this with me to take action quickly.

This was not at what we were expecting. Maybe *maybe* young children would enjoy this, but it was a waste of time and money for adults. The story is just you moving through 7 rooms (about 3 minutes per room with a theatre set on one wall). It was like watching a lame cartoon for kids. The VR at the end, where we are supposed to get to see what Bruges looked like 500 years ago is again very brief and still more cartoonish than actual artwork. We LOVED our time in Bruges, but to throw 78 euros away on something we all wanted to leave after the first room was disappointing.

Thank you for your review. The visit to the Historium Story consists of 2 parts: the first part is the Story itself and indeed lasts 35 minutes. Here you walk through 7 themed rooms with an audio guide and follow the story of Jan van Eyck's apprentice Jacob. The second part of this visit is the Historium Exhbition, an interactive exhibition where we go deeper into the different themes of our story. Most visitors spend about 15 minutes (or longer) here, depending on their interests. In this way we try to be accessible for everyone (regardless of age, origin or background knowledge). Our apologies if this was not quite clear.

We visited Historium Brugge on Saturday as part of a 3 day trip. Seduced by the advertised VR we decided this would be a good way to spend an hour or so learning about Brugge and its history. I was shocked initially at the entrance price of around 24 euros per person, but thought it surely would be worth it. The VR was ok, and tried to set the scene of what was to follow. The audio tour commenced shortly afterwards which featured several rooms telling the story of Jan Van Eyck‘s apprentice Jacob. Essentially a love story between him, a model and a green parrot thrown in. In my opinion this made little sense, was very confusing at times, lacked substance and it didn’t really tell us much about the history of Brugge. The exhibition at the end was fairly forgettable, but a nice view from the balcony over the square. I really liked the idea of stepping into different rooms for an experience into the sights, sounds and aromas of the golden age of Brugge (a bit like the Jorvik Viking experience in York), but it totally missed the mark and needs a rethink. Overall its grossly overpriced for what it is and I would suggest spending your hard earned money on something more informative.

Sadly to read you haven't fully enjoyed your visit. We try to give you an impression of how life was in medieval Bruges through the different themes of our Historium Story. Who'd like to learn more, can get more information in the Historium Exhibition and we also suggest other places in Bruges where you can find/see more details about the themes. Sorry if that was not quite clear. I'll take your feedback to our next internal meeting.

The historium is a quick and fun thing to visit, but the educational value is fairly limited. We also visited the tower and in total were out 26,50 euro per person. Oh no, it was 27, 20 since apparently 26,30 is not enough to pay for a toilet visit. The vr experience is OK as a VR novelty, but the quality of the graphics is pretty mediocre. In the end we were outside again after an hour and 15 minutes, including the visit to the tower. For 15 euros it would have been fine, if it included a toilet. For almost double that it really wasn't worth it.

Hi Jie. Thank you for your review and I'm happy to read that you enjoyed your visit as a quick and fun thing to visit. We mainly try to give an impression of medieval Bruges in our attractions, because most of our visitors are only for few hours in our city. If you want to learn more of medieval Bruges, you can choose what you'd like to read or listen to in the Exhibition or we refer you to the other museums in Bruges. With regard to our rates and toilet visits, I will certainly take your feedback on board at the next meeting.

First the VR experience. Friendly helpful staff but experience itself would deeply disappoint any computer gamer. Then the tour- script out of sync with visit. “Story” was very simple and not very interesting . Historical room sets ok but no significant historical info given. We declined the offer of a secong visit with sound in sync- they’d need to have paid us to go through it again!

I am sorry to read that your visit didn't meet your expectations. As for the synchronisation, this shouldn't normally happen. The audio guide is set at the beginning of the visit and after that everything is automatic. In the Story we give an impression of daily life in Bruges in 1435. We deliberately do this with a low threshold, in order to learn something for both young and old in a fun way. Those who want to delve further can do so in the Exhibition. My apologies if this was not entirely clear.

Dec 2023 • Friends
A day trip to Bruges and sadly the weather hadn't been kind so sought sanctuary in Historium to escape the rain.
Given we were there in December to see the Christmas market it was very busy and many other had the same idea to do something inside. The attraction provides an insight into the history of Bruges through a 10minute VR experience which was good and then a guided walk through an interactive show where a group of you move from room to room in unison.
It's cleverly done and was interesting (although I still don't understand why they needed the nude bathing !) but at 25 euros per person we didn't think it was great value for money.

Thank you for your review and great to read that you enjoyed your visit. As for the bathhouse; this was an essential part of daily life in the medieval city. Since we want to give a true impression of medieval Bruges, this cannot be omitted.

This experience far exceeded our expectations. The attraction was on par with Disney or Universal–the level of immersion and story-telling was simply amazing. Given the opportunity, we would definitely visit again. Absolutely no regrets!!!

We decided to visit the Historium museum as our first attraction in Bruges to give us an overview of the history ready to view explore the rest of the city.
The VR experience was good, it was only 8 min long but gave you the history of Bruges.
However, that’s where the history ended, unless you want to learn about a painting you won’t see again, a couple who fell in love and a bird!
There were childrens activities at the exhibition in the end which are probably useful for primary age but it was just one corridor and one room.
We did have a beer in the bar at the end and sat out on the balcony overlooking the market square which was nice.
But all in all, we felt this museum was a waste of money and really disappointing.

The virtual reality add-on was perhaps the best part of the experience. You are on a boat arriving in Brugge in medieval times and you can see everything in 360 degree VR. Once that is over you go through several themed rooms with props and projections which tell a story. If what you are looking for is something that can give you a feel for what medieval Brugge might have been like, it is quite an enjoyable experience. If you are looking for more detailed history, this may not be the place for you. We quite enjoyed it, but it is perhaps a little overpriced for what you get.

Hi Gordon. Thank you for your honest feedback and you're exactly writing down what we are offering: an impression of medieval Bruges, with its rich architecture and how medieval life in Bruges was. For more details, we also refer to other museums in Bruges. We hope to welcom you again in the future!

It was good - possibly v good. The interaction was great for us all and I’d recommend buying a combined ticket if you are planning the Belfort Tower also as you’d save money. We ended up in the beer hall afterwards which opens onto a terrace over the main square. It was lovely and the staff were very friendly.

Thank you for this nice review and glad to read that you enjoyed your visit! I think you confused the Belfry Tower with our Historium Tower, because we only have a combined ticket with our tower, where you can enjoy a 360° view over the city center and the Belfry Tower ;-) Always welcome
for a next visit!
