          A deeply moving tour
Claude Verhaeghe specializes in tours for Australians and Canadians of First World War memorial sites in France and Belgium. He was born, raised and resides in the Flanders region of Belgium. He is a very knowledgeable and compassionate guide who led us on a tour in the Arras region of France to the Vimy Ridge Memorial. This remarkable, peace-oriented memorial presents a poignant and reminder to all visitors, especially Canadians, about the terrible costs of war. This tour continued through the fighting fields of Belgium where we visited cemeteries providing the final resting place for thousands of young Canadian and Commonwealth dead, both those whose names were known and those unknown. The names of those missing in action were inscribed on walls overlooking these sites. Claude shared his feelings about the peaceful character reflected in the Vimy Canadian Memorial and told of the heartbreak of John McCrea’s loss of his friend during the second battle of Ypres in the Flemish region as memorialized in the iconic poem “In Flanders Field”. We are most grateful for experiencing a truly memorable, deeply moving tour with Claude.

Amazing tour! Best in Western Front!
Claude is the most amazing tour guide with so much information and such a caring host with great knowledge but also made it feel personal. He really took care for us and left us with so many great memories and a head full of information we still remember a couple years later! Highly recommended!

Aussie view of the battle fields of WWI
Claude is extremely knowledgeable on the various battles, units and personal stories from the 1917 Allies offensive. The rows of headstones in the cemeteries many with the inscription "Known unto God." Shows the suffering the soldiers and families went through. Highly recommend this tour.

Canadians living close to an armory, see the WWI battlefields first hand.
This was a once in a lifetime experience for our family of six (from Canada - the four children in their thirties). We had limited time in Belgium after our Dutch reunion, and the full day tour (9-9) maximized our exposure to these remote battlefield sites without us having to rent a vehicle. The travel was comfortable and the opportunities for lunch and dinner and free time were good. Claude's knowledge and communications were exceptional and added a great deal to the general experience. This was the best investment of our trip.

          Grateful Aussies
Claude was an amazing guide who tailored the Battlefields Tour to cover our interests, and he was able to answer all our questions. He is very knowledgeable on WW1 history, and showed us many of the sites that are very precious to Australians. Without this tour, we would never have been able to visit all those sites by ourselves and would have missed out big time. Thanks, Claude, for making it possible for us.

          WWI Battlefield Tour 2023
Fantastique! Our guide Claude was extremely knowledgeable and professional. We travelled comfortably between all the separate battlefields, cemeteries, museums and monuments with a expert commentary. When I showed him my grandfathers war record, Claude was able to take us to the town where he was stationed as an artilleryman. If you are looking for a personable and professional guide I highly recommend this tour.

          Great WW1 Australian tour.
What a brilliant way to visit both Flanders and then the Somme battlefields of WW1 focussing on Australian sites and memorials over 2 days. Both Claude and Lucas were knowledgeable, interesting and very happy to meet all our requests. This private tour more than met all our expectations.

          A most memorable day.
Four of us had a personalised, full day tour of the Somme from Ypres with Claude. His knowledge and friendliness made it the very best experience. He went out of his way to include places that were not on his itinerary but were important to us. It was the most memorable tour.

          Incredible experience of a lifetime
We had a private tour of Vimy and Canadian battlefield sites including Passendale and Ypres. We did this as a day trip from Paris and met Claude at Arras instead of Bruges. Claude was an incredibly knowledgeable guide, he kept our family (incl 20-y.o and 16-y.o) engaged throughout the very full day. Everything was well-planned and well-executed by Claude. He was amazing at putting us into the minds of the generals and soldiers giving us a true understanding of history that no book or class could. I can not recommend Claude highly enough! If you have the chance to do this tour you will not regret it and will have the experience of a lifetime!

          YpresWW1 battlefield tour
I met Claude thirty years ago when he guided my infantry platoon around the battlefields of Ypres and beyond. So last week I was with Claude again with my 13 year old army cadet son and my New Zealand girlfriend. I advised what I wanted to see and Claude picked up on the NZ piece and wove that into the battle field tour. Claude is exceptional, humorous, has a relaxed style and his military knowledge combined with local history is astonishing. Claude is the best tour guide I have encountered, I have done numerous staff rides/ battlefield tours and have run some myself but Claude just makes everything work, from accommodation to travel and hostelries. I cannot recommend Claude highly enough - he really is outstanding and adds detail to perfection - from the real site of the Christmas Truce football field to the crypt where it is believed Hitler was taken when wounded and many other sites so easy to miss or forgotten. 100% satisfied and I plan to do it all again with some of my old soldiers.

Canadian battlefields tour of France and Belgium
We cannot thank Claude enough for the experience we had while touring the Canadian battlefields in France and Belgium. We spent 12 hours from pick up to drop off and visited many sites that were close to our hearts. The tour ofVimi was spectacular we had goosebumps the whole time we were there. We asked for a Canadian themed tour and we were definitely not disappointed. Claude Is a virtual encyclopedia on world war one. We would highly recommend this tour to anybody with any interest of the battlefields of world war one. Thank you again Claude and it was a pleasure meeting you.

          Best Tour !!!
We booked this tour with Claude, he was so informative on the World Wars. Very pleasant tour guide, he took us to all the memorials that we wanted to see. Gave us insight on many happenings of the war. Pleasant driver clean van, answered all of our many questions along the way. We were with him for 12 hours and he was wonderful. If you ever want a GREAT Tour guide then Claude is your man. We cannot thank him enough for a once in a lifetime experience to Vimy Ridge , Flanders Fields, Battle Hill 62 Ypres, The Last Post and many more stops. We will most definitely be telling our Friends to look Claude up when in Brugges.

Impressive tour of the Canadians at Vimy and the Somme.
Canadians will love the visit to the monument at Vimy. We were very impressed with the entire tour. Thanks, Claude Verhaeghe, for all of your extremely valuable background information.

We took the train from Paris to Lille where we met Claude for the first time. Right from our first meeting we knew we had the right person. Our group consisted of four, ranging from 15 to 69 years old. Claude easily related to all of the group.

We had taken Claude's advice on where to stay for our tour - best decision we made, next to hiring Claude that is. He was on time every day, adjusted the tour to meet a special interest we had. He made everything easy.

Claude's knowledge of the First World War was truly outstanding. I consider myself to be fairly knowledgeable about the First World War but I learnt so much more from Claude. While the tour was primarily to see Canadian war sites, to make them more meaningful we visited Australian and French sites as well as events at those sites impacted on the Canadians. It added so much more to the tour. Thank you.

A special treat were the local pubs that Claude took us to for lunches. Little out of the way places that we would have never found on our own. The food was fabulous, friendly staff and they were easily able to meet the diet restrictions of our group.

Highly recommend Claude if you are in the area and especially if you have an interest in the First World War battle sites and cemeteries. You will not be disappointed.

Claude our family thanks you for a wonderful tour - you are truly amazing.

I booked this private tour through Expedia and received confirmation and vouchers . All I had to do was email Claude to confirm hotel pick up. I was now ready to book my hotel and train tickets. I’m so glad I didn’t because I received an email from Claude that he doubled book the dates and can’t except my booking. Well that was extremely disappointing because I couldn’t locate another tour from Brugge. I got a refund within 7 days but I was mad , I had to rearrange my whole vacation because of his unorganized behavior. Do not book with Battlefield experience. Buyer beware!

Dear Bonnie D, thank you for your review. Yes indeed I had a booking coming in an hour or so before yours and in that short amount of time I could not manage my diary because I was on a tour. I am sorry to hear that you have to change your entire vacation. Nevertheless I hope you will enjoy your holiday. Claude
