- Fearless5247450 contributionsWorld War1 Canadian BattlefieldsThis tour was worth every penny. The experience was sobering and overwhelming. - ChrisF8560 contributionsVery informative private tour of the Australian WW1 Western Front BattlefieldsThis tour can accommodate up to six people, although I booked this tour to have a personal guide through the battlefields. Claude was able to accommodate me as the sole tourist without any problems. The sites and his knowledge of what took place at those sites, was great. This added another level of depth, having visited the sites, when reading about the battles in the museums. Claude also had to put up with a lot of silly questions as we drove through different towns. Claude was also happy to provide recommendations for accommodation, shopping, dinner and drinks. All in all, an excellent tour with an excellent guide.Written October 7, 2024
- MarkP080 contributionsA must do way to experience Australian WW 1 action.Claude was simply brilliant. I am knowledgeable about Australian WW1 history, but Claude left me in awe with the depth of his knowledge. He was professional, punctual, polite, and a good conversationalist. We can sincerely highly recommend Claude.Written September 2, 2024

The day was well paced, well organised and was a great balance of significant sights and information. Claude has a deep expertise and imparts his knowledge in a sensitive and interesting manner. - R1246OEjenh0 contributionsExcellent guide and driverWe had an amazing day with Claude, our tour guide. He picked us up from our hotel in Lille at 9am. Fortunately we were the only clients so had some flexibility as we had a small cemetery we wanted to visit and Claude was able to accommodate this. Nothing was too much trouble, he is generous and knowledgeable about local conditions, customs and history. Lovely lunch at Hooge - soup, beautiful fresh sandwiches and wine, beer or hot drinks. Very clean facilities at all the places we stopped. We would highly recommend Claude and this tour if you wish to visit the gravesides of those who lost their lives. He is caring and sensitive to the situation. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day.Written May 11, 2024
- Kemanche0 contributionsBattlefield Experience - Extensive WW1 Tour not to be missed.Claude Verhaeghe is such a knowledgeable tour guide. He imparted his extensive WW1 knowledge to us during our 3-day private tour of Belgium and France war memorial sites. He brought to life the experiences of the soldiers and leaders during this time with descriptions of where allied and german lines would have been for specific battles. Not only did he present Canadian war memorials but included the Australian, Commonwealth and Newfoundland war memorials. He was very prompt picking us up each morning and his choice of restaurants for lunch were very good. I highly recommend you take a tour with Claude.Written May 5, 2024
- Cruiser026565095430 contributionsIntimate and Emotional journey of Australia in WW1. Incredible experience. This tour provided all that we hoped and more. We traveled as a family and all weee catered for. Claude, provided a wealth of information and paced the stops to our needs. We couldn’t have asked to see anymore and his candour and information in the car along the 2 days was a delight. The experience was intimate and emotional to finally visit some of the sites we have only read about. I am so happy we booked to see it with this tour as we couldn’t have asked for moreWritten May 1, 2024
- stevehS6184NV0 contributionsA deeply moving tourClaude Verhaeghe specializes in tours for Australians and Canadians of First World War memorial sites in France and Belgium. He was born, raised and resides in the Flanders region of Belgium. He is a very knowledgeable and compassionate guide who led us on a tour in the Arras region of France to the Vimy Ridge Memorial. This remarkable, peace-oriented memorial presents a poignant and reminder to all visitors, especially Canadians, about the terrible costs of war. This tour continued through the fighting fields of Belgium where we visited cemeteries providing the final resting place for thousands of young Canadian and Commonwealth dead, both those whose names were known and those unknown. The names of those missing in action were inscribed on walls overlooking these sites. Claude shared his feelings about the peaceful character reflected in the Vimy Canadian Memorial and told of the heartbreak of John McCrea’s loss of his friend during the second battle of Ypres in the Flemish region as memorialized in the iconic poem “In Flanders Field”. We are most grateful for experiencing a truly memorable, deeply moving tour with Claude.Written April 11, 2024
- oscarbrown_160 contributionsAmazing tour! - N8211REdavidh0 contributionsAussie view of the battle fields of WWIClaude is extremely knowledgeable on the various battles, units and personal stories from the 1917 Allies offensive. The rows of headstones in the cemeteries many with the inscription "Known unto God." Shows the suffering the soldiers and families went through. Highly recommend this tour.Written January 10, 2024
- wendyhG2052RZ0 contributionsGrateful AussiesClaude was an amazing guide who tailored the Battlefields Tour to cover our interests, and he was able to answer all our questions. He is very knowledgeable on WW1 history, and showed us many of the sites that are very precious to Australians. Without this tour, we would never have been able to visit all those sites by ourselves and would have missed out big time. Thanks, Claude, for making it possible for us.Written December 5, 2023
- mjlrbell0 contributionsWWI Battlefield Tour 2023Fantastique! Our guide Claude was extremely knowledgeable and professional. We travelled comfortably between all the separate battlefields, cemeteries, museums and monuments with a expert commentary. When I showed him my grandfathers war record, Claude was able to take us to the town where he was stationed as an artilleryman. If you are looking for a personable and professional guide I highly recommend this tour.Written October 2, 2023

This tour was incredible and one we will always remember. The whole day was well organized, comfortable drives and so informative. Claude was the perfect guide for the tone and respectfulness of the places we were visiting and local history and knowledge. Finishing with the Last Post at the Menin gate was a special touch.

Today's tour fulfilled a decades old dream to see the Vimy Memorial, to witness the nightly tribute at Menen Gate, to walk in a WWI trench, and to see the geography which cost so many lives. Claude explained the battles bit also gave life to the countryside and the impact on the non-combatants. Claude is an engaging teacher and gracious host adding stories pertinent to our particular interests.
I can enthusiastically encourage others to take one of Claude's tour. He is highly knowledgeable.

This was a once in a lifetime experience for our family of six (from Canada - the four children in their thirties). We had limited time in Belgium after our Dutch reunion, and the full day tour (9-9) maximized our exposure to these remote battlefield sites without us having to rent a vehicle. The travel was comfortable and the opportunities for lunch and dinner and free time were good. Claude's knowledge and communications were exceptional and added a great deal to the general experience. This was the best investment of our trip.

Man's folly knows no end, Rows of Hydra's teeth sitting in a tranquil garden surrounded by miles of Battlefields, a never to be forgotten tour, Bruges and death walk hand in hand, loads of adequate museums are dotted around the area, also a number of pubs, I recommend trying a fruit beer, even if you hate beer as I did.
