Even though my wife and I have traveled many places in Europe, this was our first trip to Ghent. We are a fan of boat tours when they are available, and we were glad to take the tour in Ghent. We also had our two boys with us (9 and 12 at the time).

First of all, the tickets are first come, first served. So, we did have to wait in line for the next boat to finish the tour. They were busy that day, and naturally, they pack in as many people as they can. So, the seating is fairly close together when the boats are full. Take that into consideration.

For us, the the tour lasted around 45 minutes or so. We saw several of sites, including the Gravenstein castle. The tour guide explained the sites in both Dutch and in English. Because my wife and I have spent many years speaking/interacting with international teams, we understood the tour guide quite well. Our boys, however, had a really hard time understanding him. I had to do some "translating" so that they could understand the tour.

Also, as the pictures indicate, these tours are not in covered boats. While there seemed to be covered boats there, I don't think they are used for tours. Keep that in mind as well. Make sure to wear sunscreen or bring your umbrella with you. The weather was absolutely perfect when we were there. It was a sunny, calm spring day. So, a light jacket was perfect!

Overall, we enjoyed the tour, and I would certainly recommend it. I certainly brought home several fun facts about Ghent as a result!

turned up on the day and managed to get a space on the first boat out as a group of seven. only €8.50 each which was a great price for the 40 Minute tour. our Tour Guide was incredibly friendly, and told lots of interesting stories about the history of Gent along with some funny anecdotes too! the Tour Guide swapped between three different languages throughout the tour almost seamlessly which was amazing, and made everyone feel very welcome!

Very fun boat tour in Gent! Great way to see the city, and I saw many places that I don't think I would have ended up walking to otherwise. A few negatives though: Their website says they open at 9am, but they didn't open until 11am and I had planned my day hoping to start with the tour. Not a huge deal, but it was a bummer. I also wish they took you further out even if it doesn't pass a "sight" but just to add to the experience. Finally, I am a very short person, but I was sitting with my knees squished as the boat was full and there is hardly any room in front of you if you sit on the sides of the boat without being able to sit diagonally. I would do the tour again and recommend it, I just expected a bit more from a boat tour in this charming city.

The boat we picked had a skipper/guide from one of the old familes which give him the right to do tours without having to pay, his Knowledge of Ghent went beyond the riverside as was very good and informative. the trip was just on the hour and good value compared to a similar trip in Brugge. Would recommend it but you have to pay attion to make the most of all the information passed on.

I (American male) visited Ghent with a friend for one day, and this tour was exactly what we were hoping for: only 40 minutes, informative, funny at times, and a great guide. After taking lengthy walking tours in other cities, a seated boat tour was a welcomed change, and it still allowed us to see the beauty of Ghent and hear about the history, all within only 40 minutes. Our guide Gianluca spoke fluently in both English and French, was knowledgeable and friendly, and gave us recommendations for places to go in the city. His commentary was engaging and entertaining, and his demeanor was welcoming and friendly.
The only shortcoming of the tour itself is that it's limited by the nature of only being on the water. That's no fault of our guide or even the tour company, and we were still able to see the city and learn the history, for an incredible price.

TL;DR: awesome value, would highly recommend.

The only way to really appreciate the architecture of this beautiful city. Cruise along the canals past former merchants houses and warehouses. One hour trips ideal - frequent departures and excellent value. An experience not to be missed. If you visit Ghent for the day only, I advise parking at EXPO (right next to the motorway and IKEA ) and take tram #1 direct into the city centre.

We did the boat trip as the price was included in our Ghent City Card. Our guide was friendly and welcoming, seamlessly and fluently switching from Dutch to French to English to accommodate everyone on board. He told us a lot about the history of the city and the various buildings, and we found it fascinating.

Our tourguide was very nice and caring. She taught us a lot on the way around Ghent. Unfortunately it was hard listening to her, as the boat seemed to be old and the speakers were really bad. Apart from that, it was a great tour!

We would highly recommend this tour of The Canals of Ghent. You will passby magnificent architecture, unsurprisingly similar to that of Amsterdam, seeing as Belgium use to form part of the Netherlands. Our boat tour was arranged by APT as part of their bus trip from Paris to Amsterdam. During the cruise we experienced some of the local beer and wine soaked up with a few sandwiches, provided by friendly the crew.
